Binibeca is a pretty town at the eastern end of the south coast of Menorca, and the first holiday resorts on the island. A prime location to enjoy a string of beautiful sandy bays, lapped by cool, clear water for refreshing swimming. Basically several little resorts. Binibeca Vell is similar to Portmeirion in Wales with its narrow cobbled streets and picturesque harbour. Binibeca Vell was designed by famous Catalan architect, Antonio Sintes, in the 70’s. Built to look like an old Mediterranean fishing village with a maze of narrow alleys, Moorish arches, whitewashed houses with sun-soaked patios, and a little harbour. It’s a quaint, quiet and laid-back place with small shops and restaurants. Binibeca has become one of the most popular resorts on the island. This was one of Menorca's earliest coastal developments and features Poblat de Pescadors, a development built to resemble a traditional fishing village. The design may be artificial but the maze of narrow streets, whitewashed dwellings and Moorish arches are authentically Menorcan. It has divided opinion on the island but is highly popular with tourists.

Looking down from the walls of the Alhambra to Granada's former Arabic barrio, the beautiful Albaicín! This is Granada's bohemian and artistic centre filled with live music. The network of winding cobbled streets and whitewashed houses perched on the hillside opposite from the Alhambra is just calling out to be explored. The best way to get to know this lovely and iconic neighborhood is to get lost and just explore!

“Does a boy get a chance to whitewash a fence every day?”
From Author’s Preface (Hartford, 1876);
“Most of the adventures recorded in this book really occurred; one or two were experiences of my own, the rest those of boys who were schoolmates of mine. Huck Finn is drawn from life; Tom Sawyer also, but not from an individual—he is a combination of the characteristics of three boys whom I knew, and therefore belongs to the composite order of architecture.
“The odd superstitions touched upon were all prevalent among children and slaves in the West at the period of this story — that is to say, thirty or forty years ago.
“Although my book is intended mainly for the entertainment of boys and girls, I hope it will not be shunned by men and women on that account, for part of my plan has been to try to pleasantly remind adults of what they once were themselves, and of how they felt and thought and talked, and what queer enterprises they sometimes engaged in.”

A shot from a while back of my local spot. I hope you all had a stress free Christmas and got all the photographic equipment you asked for!
Been a while since I posted on flickr as it is the season etc.. I liked the foamy details in the fg here. The waves were doing that thing they rarely do, running a long way up the beach but without crashing too heavily and getting me soaked. I have hardly taken any shots of late, just a couple on boxing day, when I fell into some deeper water!
Have a great New Year, and thanks for the recent comments and faves.

Not all Michigan barns are red. This charming cluster of weathered barns is on a farm between Macon and Tecumseh in Michigan's Lenawee County. I took my photo while passing by on April 9, 2019.

Detail from the whitewashed window of an empty, former bank building in Exmouth, Devon. The whitewash had cracked to leave this interesting texture/pattern. The original image has been 'mirrored' in Photoshop to create this inkblot effect

The whitewashed buildings of Ronda, Spain, cling to the edge of the 100-meter-deep El Tajo Gorge above the Río Guadalevín.
Walking around Kama'ole Beach Park II right after sunrise, I found this scene. I really liked the way the water looked when receding back into the ocean around these rocks. A circular polarizer helped bring out the colors.
This is a shot of dazzling, whitewashed Windmills in juxtaposition with the dark volcanic ground of igneous rock such as theralite, santorin etc. on on Santorini Island, Greece. The island of Santorini is also known as Thēra (Θήρα in Greek, aka as Thira). The architecture of the island is of course Cycladic yet it has a distinctive style of its own. The shot was taken in late October.
Historic Mosque–Cathedral of Córdoba towers over lush greenery along the Guadalquivir River under a partly cloudy sky. Its architectural features include ornate domes and intricate stonework, reflecting a blend of Islamic and Christian influences. The building's warm, sandy hues contrast with the river's muted tones. This landmark is a prominent example of the region's rich cultural and religious history. Whitewashed buildings with traditional tiled roofs are seen adjacent, emphasizing the structure's grandeur in Córdoba, Andalusia, Spain.
Found a roll of Portra160 that was expired, so of course, had to use it. Another random road trip to teach my brain some more about color. I'm glad the act of image capture and development keeps me in the moment and moves away from the mundane concerns of the day. Getting to view my fellow image capturers work is a relief of which I greatly appreciate.
