It seems that not only do the whitewashed streets of beautiful ceglie massapica feature quite a lot of blue, but on the day I was there shooting, so too were many of it's people.
Looking over my photos both portraits and crowd shots, it seems that everyone I shot is wearing blue of some sort. It wasn't a conscious decision but perhaps the colour palettes in my head were working overtime that day!
Pictured here are some of the townsfolk who were gathering in and around the church waiting for a religious festival to begin - The Procession of Saint Antonio.
You can read more about this wonderful town and the day I spent there here: Beautiful Ceglie Messapica.

I don’t know what Nature is: I sing her.
I live on top of a knoll
In a lonely whitewashed house,
And that’s my definition.

Lower Castle Road. St Mawes.
These old cottages line the road from the harbour up to the castle . Looking splendid in their coat of white paint. I suppose whitewash is an old fashioned name for the white paint that coats so many buildings in Cornwall. Its probably full of modern chemicals to help it last for years.
The photo would have been in colour with the harbour beyond but we had just had a rain shower and grey clouds still lingered so a change to B+W and shooting up hill was a better bet.

Phlyctis speirea or agelaea 'Whitewash Lichen' and Lecanora sp. Phlyctis is a green and cream crustose lichen with a verruculose surface. The apothecia are immersed in thalline verrucae with a pruinose brown disk. The type locality of P. speirea is near where this sample was found. The only way the two species can be differentiated is by an examination of the spores. Growing on the bark of a dead deciduous tree. Thanks to John Davis for the probable ID. The biggest change so far has been the replacement of the cart corrals in the parking lot. Obviously they still have a ways to go on the exterior repaint, but that should be a no-brainer: paint the metal part over the vestibule blue (and keep the old logo)! I kind of doubt we'll see the old slogans return however...

I've always wanted to try proper whitewashing. I really like it sometimes but other times I'm a bit more iffy.

Inside one of the buildings at the Staunton VA Frontier museum. I believe these windows were in the German home from the 1800s? Not sure. They brought the buildings from all over Europe and England and reconstructed them on site to represent how the homes would have been built back in the day by the different settlers. This one was fairly advanced with it's whitewashed walls.
