Break between BodyCombat and RPM Spin:

1-1/2 cups cashew milk

2 scoops chocolate fudge vegan protein

1 tsp espresso powder

1 tbsp dutch cocoa

1-1/4 tsp Pines Organic #wheatgrasspowder from @wheatgrass_people

1 tbsp coconut butter

1 cup frozen organic cherries

As always, #ckscooking :-)

This is another delicious smoothie recipe from CK Hall*. It is great as an energizing break in your fitness activity.

Also, if you have a hard time getting your children to eat their vegetables, recipes like this are a good way to get them to eat more green. You can also simply mix any of Pines' organic greens with organic chocolate syrup and milk (flax, coconut, cashew, almond, etc.) If Pines Green Superfoods are not available, order online (wheatgrass.com).

Pines' #greensuperfoods are also available in capsules and tablets for a very convenient and economical way to add more #wholefood #vegetables to your diet and as another way to get your kids to eat more greens.

When using superfood powders to fortify a smoothie or juice, it is best to source your ingredients separately so you can see and examine them. For example, with greens already mixed with chocolate powder, you do not know the color of the greens. With Pines' #superfoods, you are guaranteed great color, nutrient density and freshness.

For 40 years Pines has grown and harvested organic #wheatgrass naturally, outdoors, through often-freezing winter temperatures. They harvest at the special once-a-year jointing stage in the early spring when the grass is 7 to 10 inches tall.

Pines is also is the only company using amber glass bottles with special metal caps so they can remove the oxygen from each bottle. Without oxygen, devitalization common to plastic containers or paper packets cannot occur.

CK Hall (@ckscooking) is a consultant for Pampered Chef®. She uses food and fellowship to make a difference with real food.

Pines Wheat Grass is convenient and economical way to add more #antioxidant #vegetable #nutrition to help protect against disease. A rounded teaspoon of powder or seven tablets is the nutritional equivalent to a serving of spinach or kale, which costs much more per serving.

Pines Wheat Grass was the first #GreenSuperfood and the first #wheatgrass. As wholefoods, Pines products are #prebiotic and promote the growth of the #probiotic bacteria we need for good health.

We have grown our #wheatgrass in accordance with the scientific research for 40 years. Never forced to grow too quickly indoors in crowded trays, #PinesWheatGrass is grown as nature intended. It is harvested as a short grass after months of slow growth outdoors in often-freezing temperatures. This peak nutrition period occurs only once a-year for a few days.

Pines is unique because we are not a part of the pesticide-based, animal feed industry. Since 1976, Pines' farm families have always been 100% organic. Our products are grown with natural rainfall, not irrigation. We are not a part of the contamination and depletion of the #Ogallala #Aquifer.

All Pines products are packaged in amber glass bottles with special metal caps that allow us to remove the oxygen. Without oxygen, the devitalization with products packaged in plastic tubs or paper packets does not occur. Pines provides more nutrition per dollar than any other wholefood wheatgrass.

I love photographing this species of grass, but unfortunately it is a very invasive species. Taken in Bow Valley Provincial Park on 30 September 2010.

'Introduced from Eurasia. Abundant. Each plant has thousands of fibrous roots extending to depths of 4m, totalling in excess of 5km, depriving native plants of moisture and ultimately nutrients; a serious threat to our native biodiversity. Stems, densely tufted, 3-4dm tall. Leaves, blades, 2-4mm wide. Flowers, spike oblong-oval; arranged in flattened comb-like cluster, 4-7cm long, 1.5-2.5cm broad; ......... Habitat: roadsides, disturbed areas." From talkaboutwildlife.ca.

LOL, after posting my images this afternoon, I forced myself to go out and face the -16C (3F) temperature, which was -27C (-16F) with windchill, and drove just to my local park for a very short walk! I had to replace my old winter boots this year, as they were treacherous on ice and in the snow. Need to get used to my new ones, which are supposed to have really good grip, a bit before I go on a longer walk. Plenty of snow everywhere, and I very quickly became tired out. Always a shock to the system, I find, when walking in deep snow - you use so many different muscles you didn't even know you had and it is quite a workout. Maybe 8" or 9" of snow, so far.

I am 72 years, retired as Mechanical design engineer.

In the year 1999, I was detected as having Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia, a type of blood cancer.

From 2009 to 2012 these 2 years were very bad. Side effects of the medicines deteriorated me a lot.

People thought i will go but because of being positive, because of having a fighting spirit in life. I fought it all.

One way I thank God that he gave me cancer, he gave a good doctor - Dr. M B Agarwal, he and his wife are gem of people and through my doctor and through MAX foundation, through Novartis company that he gave a very costly medicine worth 66 lakhs which is not a small amount.

My aim in life is If I can do good and if i can become ok why my counter part should not?

So i do a lot to cheer up that person. If i can laugh my counter person can laugh, I am not a selfish man.

I make quilts and give it to cancer patients, then i make pillows .. till now i have made 5000 quilts and pillows and give it to patients who sleep on footpath outside Cancer hospitals.

Thn I make oil with garlic and methi which is good for joint pains after chemotherapy. This too i distribute the same way to patients.

I am also suffering from cancer they are also suffering from cancer.

Thn there is wheat grass, the person who makes wheat grass i gave him 10,000 patients so he gives free wheat grass powder in return which i give to the poor cancer patients.

Every day 2 or 3 patients come to me and ask “Uncle how you do it? How do you fight cancer”?

My nature is to do good and get away with it. I keep making quilts, oil, pillows and give it to cancer patients.

Apart from all this, whatever money i can save from my earnings from fixed deposits and buy toothbrush, toothpaste and soaps and distribute to my cancer patients.

Every month i give them one time meal and distribute these.

What i lose in this world?

I have come naked and I'll go naked. So better to do something nice and get away from this world then to harm anybody. I cannot do that, I cannot see anybody crying.

This is my aim in life and i will continue doing this till I am alive.

I get satisfaction out of doing all this .. seeing the other cancer patients getting ok and happy makes me also cheerful, makes me feel so nice and i feel AAH that man is also laughing .. I am also laughing.

When I come back from visiting cancer patients .. i come home and sit in the night i cry because I feel so sorry for them and that is why you believe it or not i sit on the sewing machine at 12 in the night and stitch quilts for who, for those poor people. I can sleep on the bed but what about them, they don’t have anything down so i make a quilt and give it and i feel so nice and happy that Yes God that a man can at least sleep peacefully. I will always do Good and not BAD.

I Thank God for giving me cancer, giving me good doctor, for giving me MAX foundation (may his soul rest in peace, because of his father we have got all medicines free of cost), Novartis company for giving us medicines.

So I am thankful to everybody.

Our centrifugal juicer just tosses out the wheatgrass. Wendy and I recently picked up a wheetena workhorse II juicer from a yard sale. It does a great job of extracting all the juice from our wheatgrass cuttings. I am looking forward to juicing barley grass next.

Lawrence, Kansas, September 2015—Alfalfa has been around for so long that it’s “root” name comes from Arabic, which means “father of all foods.” Speaking of roots, the roots of ‪#‎alfalfa‬ can grow up to 39 feet, extending deep into the earth to reveal a host of nutrients—all of them good for us.

PINES Alfalfa is a high potency source of the ‪#‎antioxidant‬ Vitamin A as beta carotene. It’s also an excellent source of Vitamin K, and contains ‪‎Folic Acid‬, as well as Vitamin C, calcium and iron. Alfalfa should be green like PINES, but most are not very green at all, which means more fillers and less quality alfalfa.

Although PINES Alfalfa is a convenient and economical way to consume more green vegetables, it is unique as a ‪#‎vegetable‬ because it is also a legume. Legumes contain up to 8% ‪saponins‬, which are also contained in lima beans, soy beans, navy beans, broad beans, kidney beans, chickpeas and green peas, as well as garlic.

And in addition to helping you, alfalfa helps the soil by converting atmospheric nitrogen into forms on which other plants can thrive. Alfalfa also facilitates soil conservation by reducing erosion, creates a wildlife habitat for animals, including some endangered species, and its flowers help bees produce the top honey crop in the U.S.

Compare Alfalfa supplements. Note that PINES Alfalfa is the only certified ‪#‎organic‬, ‪‎non-GMO‬ Project Verified alfalfa leaf. Founded in 1976, PINES (www.wheatgrass.com) is a successful natural food company, still owned by its original founders and families. PINES products are found in over 7,000 health food stores nationwide, and exported to more than 20 foreign countries. PINES' focus is on harvesting, tableting and packaging for maximum nutritional value.

Have we forgotten that the reason we take green superfoods is to get more GREEN food nutrition in our diets?

In order to maximize the profits for companies selling them, Green foods are often packaged in cheap plastic tubs or cheap paper packets. In fact, even some wheatgrass is packaged that way.

All Pines products follow the standard used by quality green superfood companies for 80-years. For 40 of those years, Pines has always packaged in amber glass bottles with special metal caps containing tight seals that allow us to remove the oxygen from each bottle. That protects the product from oxidation and loss of nutrients that occurs when sensitive green food products are packaged in plastic tubs or paper packets.

Those recognized for their abilities in food preparation source individual ingredients rather than using complex blends which do not allow you to see the individual ingredients. This is especially a problem for #greensuperfood products like #wheatgrass, which can be blended with darkly colored ingredients to hide poor color and quality. When you select single ingredients rather than blends, you can see, smell, touch and taste each individual ingredient for quality.

Many companies that produce blends do not grow most of the ingredients themselves but deal with dozens of suppliers from far flung places, often China, for the cheapest price without consideration for quality.

With Pines, nearly all our products consist of only one or two ingredients that we grow ourselves on our own #familyfarm. All our products are certified #organic, #nongmoproject verified, #raw and #glutenfree. We are renown for the most nutrition per consumer dollar.

1 cup cashew milk

2 scoops Orgain organic vegan chocolate fudge protein

1/2 tsp ginger

2 tbsp organic peanut flour

1 tbsp dutch cocoa

1 tsp Pines organic #greenduo (alfalfa/wheatgrass)

If your kids like chocolate greens, you can simply mix any of Pines' organic greens with organic chocolate syrup and milk (flax, coconut, cashew, almond, etc.) If Pines Green Superfoods are not available, order online (wheatgrass.com).

When using superfood powders,it is best to source your ingredients separately so you can see and examine them. "When you ask your daddy to send you a pic of his protein shake using the PINES Mighty Greens packet from @wheatgrass_people that you gave him and he turns his kitchen into a photoshoot session & makes you laugh.... AND smile really big. I love my daddy!! He used @good_karma_foods flax milk, a handful of frozen berries and some #MightGreens Superfood Blend!"

Thanks to Krysten's dad for this picture and the smoothie idea. Her dad is an award winning professional musician for over 35 years and lives in Southern California. He has been an organic vegan for over 25 years and loves his greens, that’s for sure! He taught his daughter to love greens from a young age, too.

Krysten focuses on recipes for those with food allergies. She is an expert on that subject and serves as the Foodie & Food Allergy Guru for @FoodBackground.

Pines provides packets of Mighty Greens to demonstrate it. The packets are not for sale. All Pines #greensuperfoods are packaged in amber glass bottles (shown as an inset in picture) with special metal caps that allow us to remove the oxygen to prevent the devitalization that occurs with packets and plastic containers. Even so, people often want a sample. Packets make sense for free samples, except for the oxidation problem.

To protect from oxidation, we keep sample packets in our freezer until ready to send to trade shows, stores or direct to consumers who request a sample on the contact page at wheatgrass.com. We give them away at no charge but with a message about the importance of always purchasing green superfoods in oxygen-free glass bottles. Studies show we all need at least 3 servings of dark green #veggies each day to protect against degenerative disease. A serving of any of Pines #organic products costs less than half as much as supermarket produce grown with pesticides.

As always, #ckscooking :-)

For 40 years, Pines has offered the highest quality #greensuperfoods to increase the #vegetable #nutrition in your diet.

Unlike stale green juices in produce departments made by Coke, Pepsi and other #GMO monopolies, each batch of #PinesWheatGrass is grown by sincere organic family farmers and dried at low temperature within minutes to capture the peak nutritional density. It would require more than $300 worth of these green juices from the GMO food companies to equal the nutrition in one bottle of Pines!

All Pines's #greensuperfood products are packaged in amber glass bottles with special metal caps that allow us to remove the oxygen. That safeguard prevents the rapid nutrient loss of those green juices or green powders packaged in plastic tubs or paper packets. After opening, the tight-fitting metal caps allow you to tightly seal the products between uses for the freshest, most vibrant whole food green #juice or smoothie possible.

Pines is not a big corporate monopoly with an "organic sideline." We are 100% small organic farmers. In fact, our bottling facility is right across the road from one of our fields. We chose the Pine tree as our emblem in 1976 because it is the internationally-recognized symbol of the peace found in nature.

All Pines' products are certified #organic, #gmofree, #vegan, #raw,#Kosher and #glutenfree

Just realized I haven't shot Vincent in quite a while... So tonight's shot is all him...

This was inspired by @dailyshoot's assignment of the day, which read, "What's your favorite type of music? Make a photo today that in some way conveys your taste in music."

Immediately "Army" by Ben Folds Five (YouTube link: AND it's clean (: ) came to mind..

I've been thinking a lot today, and this whole week too, Mr. Folds.

A chocolate drink can also be a very simple #recipe such as mixing #organic #Wheatgrass, #CashewMilk and #DarkChocolate syrup for green chocolate milk. Mixing these three ingredients is as easy as mixing two by using an already-mixed chocolate/greens blend with a milk. When the greens are already blended with the chocolate, you are not able to see the color of the greens. When you mix #PinesWheatGrass into chocolate milk, you see a beautiful vibrant green color that tells you that you are adding high quality nutrition to your child's chocolate drink.

CK uses simple blends and single ingredients rather than complex blends with dozens of vegetables, fruits and other ingredients. By avoiding blends, you can examine the color, taste and aroma of each ingredient. You know the quality of what you are eating and feeding your loved ones.

Pines family farmers grow only 100% organic human food. It's not just a "side-line" for an otherwise pesticide-based farm. We are unique in that our modern, clean, stainless-steel, low-temperature, food-grade, facilities are organic only and have never been used to produce pesticide-based feed for the confined-animal, factory-farming, meat industry.

Established in 1976, Pines Wheat Grass was the original #GreenSuperfood. We are truly a #vegan friendly company.

Using food and fellowship, CK is a Pampered Chef consultant, who works with that 35-year old company to provide cooking tools and recipe ideas to health-minded people. Here is CK's latest chocolate-based recipe:

Chocolate Peanut Banana #Smoothie

1-1/2 cups cashew milk

2 scoops creamy chocolate fudge protein from @drinkorgain

2 tbsp organic peanut flour

1 tbsp dark cocoa powder (brings a richness)

1 banana

1-1/4 tsp Pines Organic Wheatgrass

1 cup ice

Wheatgrass is a food prepared from the cotyledons of the common wheat plant, Triticum aestivum (subspecies of the family Poaceae). It is sold either as a juice or powder concentrate. Wheatgrass differs from wheat malt in that it is served freeze-dried or fresh, while wheat malt is convectively dried. Wheatgrass is allowed to grow longer than malt. Like most plants, it contains chlorophyll, amino acids, minerals, vitamins, and enzymes. Claims about the health benefits of wheatgrass range from providing supplemental nutrition to having unique curative properties, though few, if any, have been scientifically proven. It is often available in juice bars, and some consumers grow and juice wheatgrass in their homes. It is available as fresh produce, tablets, frozen juice and powder. Wheatgrass is also available commercially as a spray, cream, gel, massage lotion, and a liquid herbal supplement. Because wheatgrass juice is extracted from wheatgrass sprouts i.e., before the wheat seed begins to form, it is gluten-free.

Wheat grass can be traced back in history over 5000 years, to ancient Egypt and perhaps even early Mesopotamian civilizations. It is purported that ancient Egyptians found sacred the young leafy blades of wheat and prized them for their positive effect on their health and vitality.[1]

The consumption of wheatgrass in the Western world began in the 1930s as a result of experiments conducted by Charles F. Schnabel in his attempts to popularize the plant.[2] By 1940, cans of Schnabel's powdered grass were on sale in major drug stores throughout the United States and Canada[3]

Ann Wigmore was also a strong advocate for the consumption of wheatgrass as a part of a Raw Food Diet. Wigmore, founder of the Hippocrates Health Institute, believed that wheatgrass, as a part of a raw food diet, would cleanse the body of toxins while providing a proper balance of nutrients as a whole food. She also taught that wheatgrass could be used to treat those with serious disease. Wigmore's recommendations and reputation as a health practitioner have been heavily criticized, but many health institutes still endorse her teachings.[4]

Cultivation[edit]

Extracting wheatgrass juice with a manual juicing machine.

Outdoor grown wheat grass grows slowly through the winter in a climate like that of Kansas in the United States.

Wheatgrass can be grown indoors or outdoors. A common method for sprout production indoors is often on trays in a growth medium such as a potting mix. Leaves are harvested when they develop a "split" as another leaf emerges. These can then be cut off with scissors and allow a second crop of shoots to form. Sometimes a third cutting is possible, but may be tougher and have less sugars than the first.[5]

Schnabel's research was conducted with wheatgrass grown outdoors in Kansas. His wheatgrass required 200 days of slow growth, through the winter and early spring, when it was harvested at the jointing stage. He claimed that at this stage the plant reached its peak nutritional value; after jointing, concentrations of chlorophyll, protein, and vitamins decline sharply.[6] Wheatgrass grown is harvested, dehydrated at a low temperature and sold in tablet and powdered concentrates for human and animal consumption. Indoor grown Wheatgrass is used to make Wheatgrass juice powder.

Proponents of wheatgrass make many claims for its health properties, ranging from promotion of general well-being to cancer prevention. However, according to the American Cancer Society, "available scientific evidence does not support the idea that wheatgrass or the wheatgrass diet can cure or prevent disease".[8]

A small 2002 study showed some evidence that wheatgrass might help with the symptoms of ulcerative colitis, but without further work the significance of this work cannot be determined.[9] Another small 2002 study suggested wheatgrass might help with the side-effects of breast cancer chemotherapy.[10]

Nutritional content[edit]

Wheatgrass is a good source of potassium, a very good source of dietary fiber, vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin E (alpha tocopherol), vitamin K, thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, vitamin B6, pantothenic acid, iron, zinc, copper, manganese and selenium, and has negligible amount of protein (less than one gram per 28 grams). Adding other foods with complementary amino acid profiles to this food may yield a more complete protein source and improve the quality of some types of restrictive diets.[11]

Wheatgrass proponent Schnabel claimed in the 1940s that "fifteen pounds of wheatgrass is equal in overall nutritional value to 350 pounds of ordinary garden vegetables",[3] a ratio of 1:23.[6] Despite claims of vitamin and mineral content disproportional to other vegetables, the nutrient content of wheatgrass juice is roughly equivalent to that of common vegetables (see table 1).

Contrary to popular belief, vitamin B12 is not contained within wheat grass or any vegetable; rather it is a byproduct of the microorganisms living on plants.[12] Some analyses of B12 content in wheatgrass has confirmed that it contains negligible amounts of the compound even though the source of this analysis remains unclear.[13] The USDA National Nutrient Database reports that wheatgrass contains no vitamin B12.[7] Because vitamin B12 is not made by plants, any of this vitamin would have to be produced by bacteria found in the preparation.

40 Points about Wheat grass & its Nutritional Values

1. Wheatgrass Juice is one of the best sources of living chlorophyll available.

2. Chlorophyll is the first product of light and, therefore, contains more light energy than any other element.

3. Wheatgrass juice is a crude chlorophyll and can be taken orally and as a colon implant without toxic side effects.

4. Chlorophyll is the basis of all plant life.

5. Wheatgrass is high in oxygen like all green plants that contain chlorophyll. The brain and all body tissues function at an optimal level in a highly-oxygenated environment.

6. Chlorophyll is anti-bacterial and can be used inside and outside the body as a healer.

7. Dr. Bernard Jensen says that it only takes minutes to digest wheat grass juice and uses up very little body energy.

8. Science has proven that chlorophyll arrests growth and development of unfriendly bacteria.

9. Chlorophyll (wheatgrass) rebuilds the bloodstream. Studies of various animals have shown chlorophyll to be free of any toxic reaction. The red cell count was returned to normal within 4 to 5 days of the administration of chlorophyll, even in those animals which were known to be extremely anemic or low in red cell count.

10. Farmers in the Midwest who have sterile cows and bulls put them on wheat grass to restore fertility. (The high magnesium content in chlorophyll builds enzymes that restore the sex hormones.)

11. Chlorophyll can be extracted from many plants, but wheatgrass is superior because it has been found to have over 100 elements needed by man. If grown in organic soil, it absorbs 92 of the known 102 minerals from the soil.

12. Wheatgrass has what is called the grass-juice factor, which has been shown to keep herbivorous animals alive indefinitely.

13. Dr. Ann Wigmore and institutes based on her teachings has been helping people get well from chronic disorders for 30 years using wheatgrass. 14. Liquid chlorophyll gets into the tissues, refines them and makes them over.

15. Wheatgrass Juice is a superior detoxification agent compared to carrot juice and other fruits and vegetables. Dr Earp-Thomas, associate of Ann Wigmore, says that 15 pounds of Wheatgrass is the equivalent of 350 pounds of carrot, lettuce, celery, and so forth.

16. Liquid chlorophyll washes drug deposits from the body.

17. Chlorophyll neutralizes toxins in the body.

18. Chlorophyll helps purify the liver.

19. Chlorophyll improves blood sugar problems.

20. In the American Journal of Surgery (1940), Benjamin Gruskin, M.D. recommends chlorophyll for its antiseptic benefits. The article suggests the following clinical uses for chlorophyll: to clear up foul smelling odors, neutralize Strep infections, heal wounds, hasten skin grafting, cure chronic sinusitis, overcome chronic inner-ear inflammation and infection, reduce varicose veins and heal leg ulcers, eliminate impetigo and other scabby eruptions, heal rectal sores, successfully treat inflammation of the uterine cervix, get rid of parasitic vaginal infections, reduce typhoid fever, and cure advanced pyorrhea in many cases.

21. Wheatgrass Juice cures acne and even help to remove scars after it has been ingested for seven to eight months. The diet must be improved at the same time.

22. Wheatgrass juice acts as a detergent in the body and is used as a body deodorant.

23. A small amount of wheatgrass juice in the human diet helps prevents tooth decay.

24. Wheatgrass juice held in the mouth for 5 minutes will help eliminate toothaches. It pulls poisons from the gums.

25. Gargle Wheat grass Juice for a sore throat.

26. Drink Wheatgrass Juice for skin problems such as eczema or psoriasis.

27. Wheat grass Juice keeps the hair from graying.

28. Pyorrhea of the mouth: lay pulp of wheatgrass soaked in juice on diseased area in mouth or chew wheat grass, spitting out the pulp.

29. By taking Wheat grass Juice, one may feel a difference in strength, endurance, health, and spirituality, and experience a sense of well-being.

30. Wheatgrass juice improves the digestion.

31. Wheat grass juice is high in enzymes.

32. Wheatgrass juice is an excellent skin cleanser and can be absorbed through the skin for nutrition. Pour green juice over your body in a tub of warm water and soak for 15 to 20 minutes. Rinse off with cold water.

33. Wheatgrass implants (enemas) are great for healing and detoxifying the colon walls. The implants also heal and cleanse the internal organs. After an enema, wait 20 minutes, then implant 4 ounces of wheatgrass juice. Retain for 20 minutes.

34. Wheatgrass juice is great for constipation and keeping the bowels open. It is high in magnesium.

35. Dr. Birscher, a research scientist, called chlorophyll "concentrated sun power." He said, "chlorophyll increases the function of the heart, affects the vascular system, the intestines, the uterus, and the lungs."

36. According to Dr. Birscher, nature uses chlorophyll (wheatgrass) as a body cleanser, rebuilder, and neutralizer of toxins.

37. Wheat grass juice can dissolve the scars that are formed in the lungs from breathing acid gasses. The effect of carbon monoxide is minimized since chlorophyll increases hemoglobin production.

38. Wheatgrass Juice reduces high blood pressure and enhances the capillaries.

39. Wheat grass Juice can remove heavy metals from the body.

40. Wheatgrass juice is great for blood disorders of all kinds

Although though this fruit bowl is topped with non-dairy Silk, traditional yogurt can also be used. Simply top it off with a serving of any Pines #GreenSuperfood. A tablespoon serving of #MightyGreens supplies additional hemp #protein with stevia to make it taste sweeter.

Before mixing it all together, it is fun to watch the green powder become beautiful shade of dark green as it rehydrates in the yogurt. It almost is as if the #wheatgrass and #alfalfa are coming to life!

Stir it up and you are about to eat two USDA servings of fruit and one serving of #vegetables. What a delightful way to follow the recommended of 5 or more servings of fruits and vegetables per day.

No other green superfood products besides Pines are packaged to protect nutrition. Only Pines follows the 80 year old standard of using oxygen-free glass bottles to package greens. As a scientist, Dr. Charles Schnabel, the father of wheatgrass, said that if wheatgrass and other cereal grass powders are to be as effective as they were in the medical research, they needed to be packaged in amber glass bottles with special metal caps that allow the removal of oxygen from each bottle. It was research headed up by Dr. Schnable that inspired Ann Wigmore and other authors.

For 40 years, Pines has always followed Dr. Schnabel’s standard. The oxygen-free atmosphere inside each of our bottles prevents loss of nutrients between our farms’ bottling facility and when you open the bottle. The seals you see in the metal cap in the picture allow you to tightly seal the product between use.

After 40 years, Pines Wheat Grass and other green superfoods are still the greenest and most nutrient-dense #wholefood cereal grass and alfalfa products on the market because we follow Schnabel’s growing and harvesting standards and because we do not subject sensitive green #superfood nutrients to the devitalization and loss of color that occurs with plastic tubs and paper packets.

Nowruz marks the first day of spring and the beginning of the Iranian calendar. It is celebrated on the day of the astronomical vernal equinox (start of spring in northern hemisphere), which usually occurs on the March 21st or the previous/following day depending on where it is observed. It is celebrated in numerous countries across the Middle East and Central Asia. (source: Wikipedia - I know, I know...)

Haft Sîn is a major tradition of Nowruz. The 'haft sin' table includes seven items starting with the letter S (or Sīn in the Persian alphabet). The Haft Sin items are:

sabzeh - wheatgrass, barley or lentil sprouts growing in a dish - symbolizing rebirth (pictured above)

samanu - a sweet pudding made from wheat germ - symbolizing affluence

senjed - the dried fruit of the oleaster tree - symbolizing love

sīr - garlic - symbolizing medicine

sīb - apples - symbolizing beauty and health

somaq - sumac berries - symbolizing (the color of) sunrise

serkeh - vinegar - symbolizing age and patience

Other items on the table may include:

Sonbol - Hyacinth (flower) (pictured above)

Sekkeh - Coins - representative of wealth

traditional Iranian pastries such as baghlava, toot, naan-nokhodchi,

dried nuts, berries and raisins (Aajeel)

lit candles (enlightenment and happiness)

a mirror (symbolizing cleanness and honesty)

decorated eggs, sometimes one for each member of the family (fertility) (pictured above)

a bowl of water with goldfish (life within life, and the sign of Pisces which the sun is leaving) (pictured above)

a bowl of water with an orange in it (the earth floating in space)

rose water for its magical cleansing powers

the national colours, for a patriotic touch

a holy book (e.g., the Qur'an, Avesta, Bible, Torah, or Kitáb-i-Aqdas,) and/or a poetry book (almost always either the Shahnama or the Divan of Hafez) (source: Wikipedia)

Marin Sun Farms Goat in Different Forms

Sprouted Seeds/Nuts/Beans, Wheatgrass

(Braised Shank, Sous Vides Shoulder, Milk-Cooked Loin, Roasted Leg)

Paired with Chateau Rayas ‘La Pialade,’ France 2005.

Notes: This was spring in the form of a beautiful and colourful collage of goat, nuts, and seeds. What is so amazing about this dish is that each cut was perfectly cooked and distinct in flavor. The nuts, seeds, and legumes were all bright, fresh, and grassy. It was a refreshing romp through the fields showcasing terroir in both raw and its ultimate forms.

Overall, I thought this was one of the most balanced and thoughtful dishes of our meal. It had perspective.

The wine pairing was not spectacular or showy, rather complementary. The wine, itself, however, was spectacular: large, generous, full of herbs, dark juice, and a touch of spice.

Read my review of this meal at the ulterior epicure.

The open grass-dominated vegetation, burned and unburned, in the Jarbidge Mountains is dominated by mountain brome (Bromus carinatus), Idaho fescue (Festuca idahoensis), slender wheatgrass (Agropyron trachycaulum), Columbia needlegrass (Stipa nelsonii), and scattered patches of basin wildrye (Elymus cinereus) and the introduced Kentucky bluegrass (Poa pratensis). Native shrub diversity includes mountain big sagebrush Artemisia tridentata vaseyana), green rabbitbrush (Chrysothamnus viscidiflorus), mountain snowberry (Symphoricarpos oreophilus), serviceberry (Amelanchier alnifolia), and horsebrush (Tetradymia canescens). Native forb diversity includes showy fleabane (Erigeron speciosus), tapertip hawksbeard (Crepis acuminata), arrowleaf balsamroot (Balsamorhiza sagittata), mule-ears (Wyethia amplexicaulis), oneflower helianthella (Helianthella uniflora), and parsnipflower buckwheat (Eriogonum heracleoides). The abundance and diversity of native plants at all elevations in this region, which is off-limits to livestock grazing, provides yet another example of how excluding grazing by cows and sheep does not result in the development of a monoculture of something like crested wheatgrass (which occurs in this area but is not abundant). Lowell Prunty, owner and operator of Jarbidge Wilderness Guide and Packing, Rogerson Idaho, and his dog, Ding, are captured in this photo.

The robos just love to stare really hard at me when I'm close! They really love to pick high spots when they do it too. These two little ones seem to pose for photos a lot, since they just love to stay still and stare hard!

I tried wheatgrass juice while I was in CA and it tasted very interesting... I could imagine it having significant health benefits, although I only had it once or twice and can't vouch for it. Unfortunately it requires a large initial investment (to buy the special wheatgrass juicer and such), so I'm not sure when if ever I'll be able to seriously experiment with it.

All of the books had interesting information on how to run a compositing bin out of an ordinary garbage can (outside). One of them had an extremely thorough treatment, although I can't remember which one... it must have been either the middle book or the book on the right.

www.FoodBackground.com believes we need to know more about our food: They showcase companies that contribute to a better planet with genuine organic and #vegan products.and companies that haven't been bought out by non-organic corporations.

Although Pines has had plenty of inquires, we do not intend to be bought out by an agribusiness that seeks to take advantage of the organic marketplace while continuing to use GMO and pesticides for most of their products. After 40 years, Pines is still owned by the same people. Our shareholders consist of more than 100 farmers and others who invested an average of $200 because the believed in our ideals.

All Pines #greensuperfoods are packaged in amber glass bottles with special metal caps that allow us to remove the oxygen. That prevents the devitalization that occurs with packets and plastic containers. After opening, the tight seals in the metal caps allow you to keep products fresh and vibrant between uses.

Krysten has contributed recipes for our website and has taught the quality difference with Pines. In appreciation, we sent her a "care package." Here is the caption she wrote on Instagram for her picture re-posted here:
