Sagebrush steppe that has been converted to mostly crested wheatgrass is rarely if ever colonized by Bromus tectorum, even if that annual exotic grass is common along the adjacent roadside.

Greetings from behind the Great Firewall of China. I need to get back to work so this is gonna be a quick upload.

How's everyone?

If I don't visit streams or anything, it's because the firewall seems to have blocked neary 50% of your images. If I do comment, you're one of the lucky ones that China doesn't consider a threat. I still don't know how this works, it confuses me.

All I know is that I'm pooped, I gotta get this prezo done. And the bed is really soft and inviting... (i need to sleepzzzzzz)

Regardless of the degree of disturbance, Bromus tectorum (cheatgrass) is rare to non-existent in this region of sagebrush steppe. This annual exotic is even rare in and around gravel pits.

Pines Wheat Grass and Beet Juice Powder are convenient and economical ways to add more #antioxidant #vegetable #nutrition to diets. Most people are deficient in the vegetable nutrition.

Pines Wheat Grass was the first #GreenSuperfood and the first #wheatgrass. As wholefoods, Pines products are #prebiotic and promote the growth of #probiotic bacteria we need for good health.

We have grown our #wheatgrass in accordance with the scientific research for nearly 40 years. Never forced to grow too quickly indoors in crowded trays, #PinesWheatGrass is grown as nature intended. It is harvested after a winter of slow growth outdoors in often-freezing temperatures as a short grass. We harvest at peak nutrition that occurs only once a-year and lasts only a few days in the early spring.

Pines is unique among wholefood wheatgrass producers in that we not a part of the pesticide-based, animal feed industry. Since 1976, Pines' farm families have always been 100% organic. Our products are grown with natural rainfall, not irrigation. We are not a part of factory farming that has contaminated and depleted the once-great #Ogallala #Aquifer.

All Pines products are packaged in amber glass bottles with special metal caps that allow us to remove the oxygen. Without oxygen, the devitalization for products packaged in plastic tubs or paper packets does not occur. That's why Pines provides more nutrition per dollar than any other wholefood wheatgrass.

At the upper elevations along the Trail Creek Road, the mountain big sagebrush steppe is dominated by Festuca idahoensis, Koeleria macrantha, and Agropyron spicatum and secondarily by Poa secunda. Bromus tectorum is absent from this vegetation and rare along the roadsides. Bald Mountain and ski area sit in the background.

Chrysothamnus viscidiflorus on Blue Mountain Pass, burned and unburned sagebrush steppe. The sagebrush steppe on top of Blue Mountain Pass includes an abundance and diversity of native bunchgrasses. However, cheatgrass was fairly abundant everywhere regardless of disturbance and burn history. Green rabbitbrush was resprouting in the (then) 1-year post-fire setting of this area to the west of highway 95, south of Basque, Malheur County, Oregon.

Much of what passes as Montana steppe (prairie) actually comprises mostly few grass species that withstand long histories of overstocking, such as Agropyron cristatum (crested wheatgrass), Agropyron dasystachyum (thickspike wheatgrass), and Stipa comata (needle and thread grass). Aside from these dominant grasses, fringed sage (Artemisia frigida) is one of the common herbs/subshrubs.

The glumes are short and narrow and the florets include lemmas with margins and midribs that have well developed scabrous or pectinate hairs.

Native, cool-season, perennial,

loosely tufted grass to 1 m tall. A minor component in pastures, it grows on most

soil types and is drought and frost tolerant. A variable species; plants on good soils produce high quality, palatable green feed in the cooler months, but plants on shallower soils tend to have harsher leaves and produce little feed. Generally only a short lived plant, but can recruit well from seed if needed.

Even in sagebrush steppe dominated by Artemisia tripartita, which is more resilient to disturbance including fire, cheatgrass is absent, rare, or highly localized to roadsides or to animal disturbances. Bell Mountain (Lemhi Range) sits in the background.

Wheatgrass on Eastern Montana rangeland. August 2015 in Wibaux County, Montana.

The sagebrush steppe around the Gunnison region is generally "improved" with stands of Agropyron cristatum (crested wheatgrass). Regardless, it harbors a diversity of native bunchgrasses, forbs, and shrubs. The sagebrush steppe in this region combines aspects of Wyoming (Opuntia polyacantha, Bouteloua gracilis) and mountain big sagebrush steppe (shrub species belonging to the Rosaceae, as well as the form of the sagebrush, Artemisia tridentata vaseyana). Bromus tectorum is common along the trails but absent from the sagebrush steppe in this area.

I planted wheatgrass, around one month ago, and when I was going to cut the grass I realize the beautiful shape of the roots, One different from one pot to the other, but both in a strange and beautiful order. I wanted to make a diptych where you could see the grass from the outside and the roots from the inside

Large punnet of wheatgrass at the health shop. I think this is the sort that they snip off the tops and crush into a health drink, like at Boost Juice. I have't tried it before ... too squeamish to drink grass. I'd rather admire with my eyes :))

Taken with iPhone 3GS.

At the south end of the Smoky Mountains where the Big Wood River emerges into the Snake River Plains, the sagebrush steppe is sporadically colonized by Bromus tectorum, which is not the case at this site.

Native, cool-season, perennial, loosely tufted, short-lived grass to 100 cm tall. Leaves typically have a half twist and the flag leaf sticks out at a right angle. Leaf sheaths are hairy and auricles are present. Flowerheads are spikes to 25 cm long. Spikelets are 6-12-flowered and not or little overlapping; their sides are against the stem. Lemmas have an awn which is 9-47 mm long and strongly curved when mature. Calluses are distinctly hairy. Flowers from late winter to late summer. A minor component in pastures, it grows on most soil types and is drought and frost tolerant. Native biodiversity. A variable species; plants on good soils produce high quality, palatable green feed in the cooler months, but plants on shallower soils tend to have harsher leaves and produce little feed. Generally only a short lived plant, but can recruit well from seed. Responds positively to fertiliser. Often preferentially grazed, but is avoided after it runs to head. Rotationally graze or provide strategic rests in late spring to aid persistence.

Agropyron trachycaulum (left most) is one of the common grasses in seed mixes used in vegetation restoration in mountain meadows in western Montana. The slopes of Bridger Bowl are dominated by five grass species (left to right): Agropyron trachycaulum, Bromus carinatus, Bromus inermis (the most abundant of the five), Dactylis glomerata, and Phleum pratense.

Bluebunch wheatgrass forms large loose bunches common on exposed slopes. Helianthella uniflora, false sunflower, and Lupinus argenteus, silver lupine, sit to the left. Amelanchier alnifolia, serviceberry, is the background shrub. This bunchgrass is common on exposed slopes, here a west facing slope along the trail leaving the Peets Hill area to the main ridgeline of Burke Park, Bozeman, Gallatin County, Montana.

Hordeum jubatum (center background) can often colonize a crop field of Hordeum vulgare (2 row barley, left).

Dug the juicer back out and made a Dr Juice with pammy enhancements : apple, carrot, beetroot, celery, lemon and ginger with the addition of radish and wheatgrass powder - scrummy-licious

I grew some wheatgrass and in the morning noticed these dewdrops so I captured the moment.

My morning infusion of vitamins and antioxidants comes from:

1 peeled ruby red grapefruit

2 peeled mandarin oranges

1 apple

2 kiwi

6 carrots

2 cups spinach

1 tsp beet juice powder from Pines

1-1/4 tsp Mighty Greens from Pines

The sagebrush steppe is very uncommon and patchy in this area and grass-dominated by Poa secunda, Agropyron trachycaulum, and a hybrid form of Agropyron spicatum.

Brought home my own wheatgrass from Hippocrates Health Institute. Here it is draining in my kitchen sink after I watered it.

One alternative is naturally-concentrated, nutrient-dense, dark-green, #superfoods such as #wholefood #wheatgrass and #alfalfa from Pines. Each spoonful is equivalent to the nutrition in a large spinach or kale salad. As a special treat, you can use a recipe similar to the one below, but you can also easily put concentrated #greenfood #nutrition into their bodies everyday by simply mixing a spoonful of Pines #GreenSuperfoods into some chocolate milk (cow, flax, almond, cashew, soy), juice or a smoothie,

The earlier you introduce dark greens the better. Mothers report that they mix #PinesWheatGrass into baby food, and the children grow up loving greens.

Pines (wheatgrass.com) also provides its green superfoods in capsules and tablets. They are convenient and economical ways to add more dark green vegetables to your entire family's diet.

In this example of a more complex recipe CK Hall, used two kinds of vegetable powders from Pines, #wheatgrass and #beets. Here is what she says about how she made the luscious-looking thick #chocolate mixture in the picture:

Where the sagebrush steppe in this area has been degraded by use as pasture, exotic grasses such as Agropyron intermedium (including the pubescent form) are common but Bromus tectorum is not, even though it is along the adjacent roadsides.
