Recently returned to service GP40 WC 3018 idles away at Stevens Point after being brought up on a train the day before. Though the engine looks a bit worse for wear, notice that it is riding on rebuilt trucks and new wheels. That is good news for this former WC workhorse.
This was my first time catching the WC map unit, while having a camera handy. Oddly enough we found this guy by accident. My friend Andy (Jeppeto) and myself took a detour to get to the Neenah yard (we went through Menasha instead of just taking the highway.) Well when we were near the Downtown Neenah area I looked to my right and saw a train stopped on the Manitowoc line bridge, over the Fox River. I quickly turned around and was very surprised to catch this guy just sitting there. It was awesome to see this close-up at this location.

leads a daily WLE train through Bedford, OH while on lease.
Built in 1966 as NW 1724 to NS 1724, then as EMDX 1724 would get a chopped nose, and would become WC 1724, WE 1724, LTEX 1724 and finally MRL 388.

WC Bolen, a southern gentleman, and racehorse affectionado, he is now 85 and going strong a very sharp man. He is a republician but we get along fine and agree on a lot of things. He is from Hilton Head SC

So - I took this shot very quickly, hoping that a coworker would not walk in and wonder what in the world I was doing with a camera in the bathroom =)
Luckily, I was able to capture this without incident. The things we'll do for a shot ;)
