MEET MUNICH @ Praterinsel - Slideprojection, Videoprojection, Pixelmapping & Videodocumentation by crushed eyes
With equipment and technical support sponsored by Senovva, Inc., we set out to create a one of a kind public art experience, a projection mapping installation for multiple surfaces and multiple dimensions.
Unfolding like an animated modern Botticelli painting, flowing above our heads and spreading outwards
in every direction, “As Above, So Below” immersed viewers in the architecture of the Manhattan Bridge. Audiences physically entered the story and explored the shimmering surface as it ignited with messages and symbols.
This originally conceived video mapping project was a challenge offered to a group of artists from varying backgrounds. Led by digital arts pioneers Farkas Fulop and Ryan Uzilevsky, with post production support by Sina Taherkhani, the group created a one-of-a-kind experience. Utilizing 25,000 square feet of animation, and ultimately winning "Best In Show" at the Dumbo Arts Festival. Also participating in the group were artists Simon Anaya, John Parker, Richard Jochum and Johnny Moreno.
This production tested every technique in image-making conceivable in the short time frame, including stop motion animation, and the suspension of over twenty performance artists from fly wires at sixteen feet off the ground.
Leo Kuelbs is responsible for securing the site and bringing the original team together. He also put together a great international video art showcase between screenings of "As Above, So Below."

This Event created by Light Art now is being held for the 5th time.
The show consisits of two part, one lasershow and one videoprojection on the memorial itself.
This time it was extremely cold and a strong wind blowing. Everybody kept shivering and I could only shoot one full session.
The blus hour and its different shades gliding into dusk I found the most attractive in light. The show itself surprised by new video effects.

This simple video projection window display installation was a collaborative art project between Chairman Ting and Tangible Interaction in Vancouver, Canada.
The installation piece was created for only one night during the popular fireworks event to help maximize impact and generate awareness for Single Bicycles, a quality bicycle brand situated in downtown Vancouver on Robson Street.
From concept to production, this art installation took over a month to prepare, execute and test. The custom music track was composed and produced by Tom Pettapiece.

Massive Elephant Video Installation at MoMA.
The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) is an art museum located in Midtown Manhattan in New York City. It was established on November 7, 1929; 85 years ago and has been important in developing and collecting modernist art, and is often identified as the most influential museum of modern art in the world. Considered by many to have the best collection of modern Western masterpieces in the world, MoMA's holdings include more than 150,000 individual pieces in addition to approximately 22,000 films and 4 million film stills.
A woman sits on top of a strange planet formed by organic found objects and strange landscape. Inside a hole, a demanding person wills with a commanding voice. A tiny figure was seen working near the surface.
This new video installation by Tony Oursler is so WTF funny that I am mostly amused by how the “art world people” look at it with a “serious straight face”.
The “planet” is situated on top of a steel stand, whereas the strange gadget in the background is a mini DLP video projector which projects video directly on top of the sculpture. It is wacky and crazy. Just the type of work for me.
See also Oursler’s previous video projection work at www.flickr.com/photos/seeminglee/4422162363/ and vimeo.com/10068688 (with video interview).

Projet Espace Commun ?

Doug Aitken's site-specific commissioned video, entitled "Sleepwalkers", is projected onto the walls of the Museum of Modern Art, primarily onto those facing its garden courtyard, as seen here. This extraordinary outdoor art event is free to the public and exhibited in MoMA's garden, whose entrance is on W. 54th St., continuing well into the night.
It was raining last night, which made photography a bit difficult, but I found a spot under one of the garden's sheltered spaces to take photos. I especially liked this image of Seu Jorge, the Brazilian singer turned actor.
Happy Black History Month, everyone!

About the concert
www.myspace.com/arthurslanding
Arthurs Landing is a group of musicians, all of whom worked at various times in various contexts with the late Arthur Russell, a cellist and composer from Iowa who lived on the Lower East Side for most of the later part of his too-short life. Russell brought together the worlds of dance, pop, and folk with that of downtowns new music, and fused Western and Eastern musical traditions, driven by his engagement with Buddhist thought and practice. He collaborated often with Allen Ginsberg, and Phillip Glass was also an early mentor. Characteristic of Russell's method was his tendency to work hard and long, and he rarely considered anything finished. What was his unending pursuit of the ineffable becomes a challenge and inspiration for the Arthurs Landing ensemble. It is hard to resist the ambition and humor behind compositions with titles like Temple of Meaning, Terrace of Intelligibility, and Hop on Down to Petland. Russell is the focus of the feature-length 2008 documentary directed by Matt Wolf, Wild Combination. A biography by Tim Lawrence, Hold Onto Your Dreams, is due out this year.
The Arthurs Landing ensemble will perform pop songs and parts of a longer instrumental work called Singing Tractors and will be available following the performance to answer questions about Russells life and work.
