Wanderlustamerica.com: Grand Canyon National Park is the 15th site in the United States to be named as a National Park. It is situated in northwestern Arizona and is often called one of the seven natural wonders of the world. The Grand Canyon Park attracts up to 6.2 million visitors every year. Ancient Native Americans used to live in and around the park about 12,000 years ago. Today, people from all around the world come here to experience its helicopter rides, visitor centers, mule rides, and much more.
Unesco.org: Carved out by the Colorado River, the Grand Canyon (nearly 1,500 m deep) is the most spectacular gorge in the world. Located in the state of Arizona, it cuts across the Grand Canyon National Park. Its horizontal strata retrace the geological history of the past 2 billion years. There are also prehistoric traces of human adaptation to a particularly harsh environment.

National Automobile Museum: The National Automobile Museum (The Harrah Collection) has a “Wow!” factor you don’t often find in a museum. You’ll see more than 200 eye-popping cars with authentic street scenes and sounds. The facades bring displays to life; a hardware store here, a movie theatre there which accompany artifacts from each era. It’s located on the corner of Lake and Mill Streets in downtown Reno.
We are dedicated to offering entertaining and educational experiences through special programs, exhibits, events, and stories about our collections – and sharing history through the timeline of the automobile.
Our Mission is to collect and preserve the automobile for future generations, with an emphasis on vehicles collected by William Fisk “Bill” Harrah, to tell the story of the impact of the automobile on American society, and to perpetuate the legacy of Mr. Harrah as a renowned collector.

Nps.gov: Bryce Canyon is not a single canyon, but a series of natural amphitheaters or bowls, carved into the edge of a high plateau. The most famous of these is the Bryce Amphitheater, which is filled with irregularly eroded spires of rocks called hoodoos. Perhaps every visitor to the park will spend at least some time marvelling at its four main viewpoints, all found within the first few miles of the park: Bryce Point, Inspiration Point, Sunset Point, and Sunrise Point. Between April and October a shuttle service is operated in this area of the park to reduce congestion.
Other viewpoints are found all along the park's 18-mile main road which travels from the park's only entrance in the north along the plateau rim to its highest elevations in the south (over 9,000 ft / 2,743 m). Hiking trails explore the forests of the plateau, connect between viewpoints along the rim of the Bryce Amphitheater, and wander through the hoodoos below.

Roadsideamerica.com: Standing along Route 66 west of Amarillo, Texas, Cadillac Ranch was invented and built by a group of art-hippies imported from San Francisco. They called themselves The Ant Farm, and their silent partner was Amarillo billionaire Stanley Marsh 3. He wanted a piece of public art that would baffle the locals, and the hippies came up with a tribute to the evolution of the Cadillac tail fin. Ten Caddies were driven into one of Stanley Marsh 3's fields at the summer solstice, then half-buried, nose-down, in the dirt, at a 60-degree angle (supposedly the same angle as the sloping sides of the Great Pyramid of Giza). They faced west in a line, from the 1949 Club Sedan to the 1963 Sedan de Ville, their tail fins held high for all to see on the empty Texas panhandle.
Tourists are always welcome at Cadillac Ranch. If you bring spray paint, make sure to snap some photos. Because whatever you create at Cadillac Ranch will probably only last a few hours before it's created over by someone else.

Npplan.com: Robert, the Lincolns’ only son who lived into adulthood, donated the house to the state of Illinois in 1887 under the conditions that the state maintain the house and that no entrance fee would ever be charged for people to tour the house. The state turned it over to the National Park Service in 1972 for the creation of Lincoln Home National Historic Site.

On a road trip from Los Angeles to New Mexico, we briefly traveled the historic Route 66 and stopped at this really cool stop. Elmer's Bottle Tree Ranch is in Barstow, California and well worth stopping to explore. My wife and I took this road trip in June 2017. I was saddened to h ear that Elmer has since passed way in early 2019. I've procrastinated long enough in posting the content from this trip and I'm now finally getting to it. For licensing these images please contact me aquintano@gmail.com. I have a video tour coming to my YouTube channel soon. Please subscribe youtube.com/anthonyquintano.
Wikipedia: Moraine Lake is a snow and glacially fed lake in Banff National Park, 14 kilometres (8.7 mi) outside the village of Lake Louise, Alberta, Canada. It is situated in the Valley of the Ten Peaks, at an elevation of approximately 1,884 metres (6,181 ft). The lake has a surface area of 50 hectares (120 acres).
The lake, being fed almost completely by snow-melt and glacial-melt, does not reach its crest until middle to late June. When it is full, it reflects a distinctive shade of azure blue. The unique colour is due to the refraction of the blue end of the spectrum of sunlight off the rock sediment deposited in the lake on a continual basis in summer by the surrounding glaciers. The lake is completely created by nature and has not been dammed, drained, or otherwise altered by humans in any way, other than the visitor services which are strictly controlled by the National Park.
The road to Moraine Lake is only open during the summer months (June-Sep). Since 2023, Parks Canada has closed it to personal vehicles year-round with only Park shuttles, public transit and commercial operators allowed to access the road. Visitors can also bicycle or walk the road, which is 10 km / 6 miles long one-way.

brycecanyoncountry.com: One of the best-known natural arches in Bryce Canyon National Park is ironically called Natural Bridge. This massive formation spans 85 feet and is sculpted from sedimentary red rock, rich in iron oxide, of the Claron Formation. Natural Bridge is a testament to a combination of natural forces—frost wedging, chemical weathering, and gravity—that prove how vulnerable even the most massive rock formations can be. You can view the arch from the Natural Bridge viewpoint, about three-quarters of the way along the park’s scenic drive. Other arches and bridges in Bryce Canyon National Park include Twin Bridges on the Navajo Loop Trail, Bryce Point Arch near the Wall of Windows, and Farview Natural Bridge. For the really adventurous, a hike down the Fairyland Loop Trail leads to Tower Bridge (named for its resemblance to the London Bridge).

Roadtripryan.com: In King's Canyon, west of Delta on Highway 6, the loneliest highway in America, sits Elephant Rock Arch. The arch, in the Sevy Dolomite rock layer, sits on the south side of the highway at the confluence of Cat Canyon coming in from the south, and King's Canyon where the highway goes. The arch looks like an elephant's head and trunk, complete with a basket on its back that could carry people. In South East Asia, these baskets are referred to as howdahs.
I have driven by this arch countless times over the years, always admiring it as I zoomed by on the highway. Finally, in 2024, the family and I actually took the time to stop and give the arch a proper visit. It turned out to be a fun little adventure. This is a great spot to stop and stretch your legs for a few minutes.
From the pullout, the arch is clearly visible to the south. If you are adventurous and don't mind some loose scrambling, visiting the arch is quite fun.
To visit, follow the two-track road from the highway to the south side of the arch. A steep, loose hill on the south side (opposite highway 6) of the arch is a pretty easy route to the arch. Right at the arch, in particular, there is a fair bit of exposure and looseness.
Not recommended for beginners, be careful! The lofty perch has some broad views of King's Canyon.

Hikeoregon.net: The Pinnacles Trail is a very unique and frequently overlooked, family friendly trail in the heart of Crater Lake National Park. This trail is perfect for those looking for less crowded options inside of the park, with awesome views of very unique rock formations, and lots of history.
The trailhead is a loop drive with not a lot of parking. This is usually not a problem though because this trail is not one of the incredibly popular sites in the park that people tend to flock to, and this trail is sadly often overlooked.

Wildlife Loop Road
This drive provides spectacular opportunities to encounter a wide range of wildlife. Be sure to keep a safe distance (recommended at least 25 yards) from bison, elk, mountain goats and other animals. For the safety of the animals the park asks that you keep your speed at around 25mph or lower. Plan for one to two hours to complete this drive.

Wikipedia: "Cadillac Ranch" is the name of a Bruce Springsteen song on his 1980 album The River, later covered by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and Status Quo.
The music video for the 1985 song "Living in America" by James Brown[14] and the music video for the 2008 song "Ain't No Rest for the Wicked" by Cage the Elephant[15] both feature imagery of the Cadillac Ranch. The Cadillac Ranch is also featured on the cover of singer/songwriter Russell Christian's first EP "Chassis".
In the 1990 book 12 Days on the Road: The Sex Pistols and America, the Sex Pistols pass by Cadillac Ranch on their way to New Mexico during their only American tour. Johnny Rotten sneered and sarcastically described it as "a stirring work."
The 1996 film Cadillac Ranch directed by Lisa Gottlieb and starring Christopher Lloyd and Suzy Amis is set in the Texas Panhandle around its namesake ranch.
Pixar's 2006 animated film Cars depicts a Cadillac Range as a mountain formation; the film's credits directly acknowledge the Ant Farm collective and the Cadillac Ranch. In a case of art-imitating-art-imitating-art, that image from the film Cars has been constructed as a centerpiece of Cars Land at Disney California Adventure.
In the final scene of the King of the Hill episode "Hank Gets Dusted", Hank Hill has his father's Cadillac, which he cherished growing up, pushed front first into a hole along with other Cadillacs to reference the Cadillac Ranch.
Cadillac Ranch serves as the setting for the video for the 2009 song "Honky Tonk Stomp" by country duo Brooks & Dunn, which was the duo's last video.
The band Atomic Tom filmed a video at Cadillac Ranch in November 2011.
In 1992 country music artist Chris LeDoux released a song titled "Cadillac Ranch", written by Chuck Jones and Chris Waters, on his album Whatcha Gonna Do with a Cowboy. Built in 1925, with the open breezeway enclosed in 1966, the West Thumb Information Station is an excellent example of historic architecture associated with ranger stations in Yellowstone. During the winter, this facility serves as the West Thumb Warming Hut. Visitors can warm up, read interpretive exhibits on history and a variety of winter topics, and get their questions answered by an Interpretive staff person.
This area provides numerous opportunities for adventure. Take in the spectacular views of West Thumb and the Absaroka Mountains from the shores of Yellowstone Lake. Explore the hot springs, mud pots, and geysers of the West Thumb Geyser Basin. Hike one of the local trails, like the Scenic Lake Overlook or begin an overnight backpacking excursion at one of the many wilderness trailheads. Also, private and commercial paddling excursions launch from the Grant Village Marina.

Nps.gov: Traces of an old roadbed and weathered telephone poles mark the path of the famous "Main Street of America." Petrified Forest National Park is the only park in the National Park System containing a section of Historic Route 66. From Chicago to Los Angeles, this heavily traveled highway was not only a road--it stood as a symbol of opportunity, adventure and exploration to travelers.
U.S. Route 66 was established in 1926, but it was after WWII that the road earned its place in pop culture. A trip from middle America to the coast could take about a week along swinging 66. No interstate speeds back then! For many, the journey was not just across miles, it was across culture and lifestyles, as each stop along the way offered local flair and regional flavor. Of course, getting to your destination was important, but the trip itself was a reward.
Driving west on Route 66, in the heart of the Painted Desert, one could see a pink edifice glimmering in the clear air. After long hours of travel, here was a special place to take a break, stretch your legs, sip a cold drink, and admire the view.

Nps.gov: The Lincoln-Douglas debates were a series of formal political debates between the challenger, Abraham Lincoln, and the incumbent, Stephen A. Douglas, in a campaign for one of Illinois' two United States Senate seats. Although Lincoln lost the election, these debates launched him into national prominence which eventually led to his election as President of the United States.
Lincoln and Douglas agreed to debate in seven of the nine Illinois Congressional Districts; the seven where Douglas had not already spoken. In each debate either Douglas or Lincoln would open with an hour address. The other would then speak for an hour and a half. The first then had 30 minutes of rebuttal. In the seven debates, Douglas, as the incumbent, was allowed to go first four times.

The Mark Twain Birthplace State Historic Site is a publicly owned property near Florida, Missouri, that preserves the cabin where the author Samuel Langhorne Clemens was born in 1835. The cabin is protected within a modern museum building that also includes a public reading room, several of Twain's first editions, a handwritten manuscript of his 1876 novel The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, and furnishings from Twain's Connecticut home. The historic site is adjacent to Mark Twain State Park on a peninsula at the western end of man-made Mark Twain Lake. The cabin was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1969.
Samuel Clemens, later known by the pen name Mark Twain, was born in the two-room house on November 30, 1835. The house was rented by his parents Jane Lampton Clemens (1803–1890) and John Marshall Clemens (1798–1847). Clemens spent his first four years here until the family moved to a two-story clapboard house, now memorialized as the Mark Twain Boyhood Home & Museum in Hannibal, Missouri, in 1839.

This is the long tunnel, 2.8-mile (4.5 km) Shoshone Canyon Tunnel started in 1937.
TravelWyoming:The Buffalo Bill Cody Scenic Byway, U.S. 14/16/20, follows the North Fork of the Shoshone River through scenic Wapiti Valley to the East Entrance of Yellowstone National Park. The 27 miles of paved Scenic Byway start about 25 miles west of Cody at the Shoshone National Forest border. Normal driving time from the forest boundary to the Park is approximately 45 minutes. The byway is open to traffic year round, but the East Entrance into Yellowstone closes the first Monday of November.
The north side of the canyon is known as Rattlesnake Mountain. Cedar Mountain is on the south side. These mountains form one geologic structure, a faulted anticline (see figure below), which was generated during the Laramide mountain-building episode. The Laramide reached this area about 70 million years ago. It produced the basins and mountains we see today.
Geologists debated the nature of these structures for decades. There were two main interpretations of the forces that produced these structures. One camp thought vertical forces on the basement caused these structures, while the alternate theory said they were produced by horizontal compression. What is curious is that both camps used the structure seen in Shoshone Canyon as evidence to support their respective interpretation. By the mid to late 1970s, seismic and well data showed that the “compressionalists” were correct.
