You proved that here in this dusty archive. Where scholars meet students, where students meet what passes for reality...on a good day.

Arjuna turned to Krishna, both on the battlefield, and, perplexed, asked Krishna a question, 'My uncle is my opponent this day. Why must I attempt to kill my own blood? ' Krishna replied, 'You are a soldier. You must fulfill your destiny. Killing your uncle is not the bad thing. The bad thing is not fullfilling what you were meant to do.'

Since she was very tiny the only toy was a miniature camera that was part of Marziyas growing childhood , and at two years and eleven months she knows the real from the fake.

She barely touches the camera that was her training tool to shoot pictures with a blindfold .. it was to get used to the feel of the camera till it became a part of her consciousness .

It is the Nikon D 80 I mean.

She knows the buttons and she shoots vivid pictures through the soul of darkness .

This is the first disciple that has taught the Guru lessons in the Art of Unlearning Photography.

...Backlighting in a scene can create drama. Make a photo with interesting placement of backlit subjects."

Familiarizing with en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Backlighting_(lighting_design) today - I learned that "in photography, a back light is usually the sun". On a grey day - I did some window shopping paying attention to how "the edges of the item are made to glow". I was able to spot background and side lighting in the shop premises and the key light in above front. The result is that the quilt work is "lit" whereas the rest of the shop window shows reflection of the street in front of the shop.

Today's photo continues yesterday's reflection theme - what's there when the reflection ends. ...unlearning requires competences on critical reflection. ...Mezirow describes unlearning process within adult education as follows - the process has ten phases:

1) A disorientating dilemma

2) Self-examination

3) Critical assessment and a sense of alienation

4) Relating discontent to the experiences of others

5) Exploring options for new ways of acting

6) Building confidence for new ways of behaving

7) Planning a course of action

8) Acquiring knowledge in order to implement plans

9) Experimenting with new roles

10) Reintegration into society

All phases are necessary - unavoidable - if we want to learn to adapt to changes in a way that we simultaneously adopt different ways of networked collaboration in order to achieve next innovative phases. The process is very complex. That's why it needs to be cut into smaller pieces - steps that are easier to understand and take. That's why we need a micro approach - like #microwork #microlearning #microinnovation...

The Singer/ Songwriter was born in Queensland, Australia and now lives in New York.

He has described himself as a "quiet noise-maker" with a passion for ballads. He is most familiar to audiences for his voice and poignant songwriting.

So far he has received attention from John Cameron Mitchell`s film SHORTBUS (2006). He wrote the theme song “In the End” in addition to the songs "Little Bird", "Surgery" and "Upside Down" performed in the film by himself and featured on the soundtrack.

One of his early successes came with the soundtracks "Lithium Flower" and "Beauty Is Within Us" for the Japanese animation-serial Ghost in the Shell, as well as with the title song “Is It Real?”, for the animation-serial Cowboy Bebop. All being composed by Yoko Kanno .

His highly praised self-titled debut album was released in 2008, followed by his 2nd Studio Album „There Is An Ocean That Divides“ a year later and his 3rd solo-record „Gallantry`s Favorite Son“ in 2011.

Whoever has experienced Scott Matthew and his wonderful musicians live on stage is oddly touched. His emotional investment in song and singing is huge. His presence intensifies the disarming and immediacy of his work though is able to give an ease to the evening with two or three words between his songs.

He always loved to reinterpret the songs from his favorite singers, writers and composers and add them as encore to his setlists. This is still part of his concerts and the audience is looking forward every night to this" personal hitparade"

His new studio album UNLEARNED will be a collection of his personal favorites like Harvest Moon (Neil Young), No Surprises (Radiohead) or To Love Somebody (Bee Gees) reinterpret only with his mesmerizing, heart-melting and captivating voice and the Scott Matthew typical instrumentation of piano, strings, guitar and his ukulele. He also invited some guests as duet partner.

A message sent to a fellow photographer ,..as forward to Wishes for World Photography Day Aug 19

Promoting photography is good but what disheartens me is nothing has changed the same lighting the same slavish following the old masters and a few pseudo old new masters whose world has disappeared and a new brave world highly digitized more , enervating takes its place , new approach, new perspectives greater use of poetry as a imaginative tool and we at camera club level have no desire to be part of this change and these are my personal views , see one camera club newsletters the images are the same , the lighting the same and than I wonder are we really photographers are mere copycats wanting to remain cowardly backwards ..regressive in time warp and time lapse..

And I hope all this changes one day .. it has I have made my grand daughters both one year old and 4 year old Canon EOS 60D users to see the world as it exists .. without adding or subtracting from the restless angst of the poetry of life.. they shoot and unlearn photography.

Just like these rats, most people who drink alcohol excessively do not have any other "issues" causing the addictive habit. And that's about 15 million people in the U.S. alone! The alcohol, all by itself, is the source of the problem for these people. It is now known that Alcoholism is a learned behavior that can be unlearned. The Sinclair Method does this and can cure over 70% of all AUD sufferers in 3-12 months. Just Google it and find out how ! Here's a link to the award-winning documentary:

Marziya has shot my youngest son Saif Sakir and my nephew Shayan son of my kid brother Firdaus Shakir ..

Shayan is Marziyas Uncle too.

Marziya learnt to shoot pictures with a blindfold she was two tears old at that time she had mastered the art of holding the Nikon D 80 too , the camera was a bit heavy but she manages it with ease even now , she wont take the camera without first placing the strap round her neck..she aims and shoots I have never had to delete any of her pictures such is the clarity of thought in her pictures that she shoots with a divine passion..

Marziya shoots street pictures , and without being intimidated by crowds or kids older than her Marziya shoots her class kids too.It is all question of Mijaz or a state of mind ..

Not merely shooting pictures , but also seeing them once I upload them on Flickr she will proudly tell her mother it was shot by her..she knows the pictures she has shot we both shoot identical street story pictures.

There are times she will ask me to show her childhood pictures when she was barely two days old and her life's story is a running stream on Flickr..I captured nuances of her life her emotions her pangs and the poetry of her growth.

I did it as a grandfather and as a in house photographer of my family, I have never shot any of my children as prodigiously as Marziya..and also because Marziya was the birth of my grand fatherhood too.

But I know the greatest , ultimate tool of learning is honing ones vision through the camera , the camera is an instrument of peace and humanity if used holistically as I have used it as a street photographer.

If your pictures connect half the work is done, who cares for cult status or being as famous as another photographer..I shoot shit on the road I shoot garbage I shoot pain I shoot life ,,and life shoots me back ricocheting an impulse that produces poetry.

And I owe this all to people who came in my life and turned it upside down.. I owe it to my three gurus Prof BW Jatkar who though dead ignites the soul of my photography, Mr Shreekanth Malushte the humble but sincere teacher of grass root photography and the the Grand Master Mr KG Maheshwariji...Dronachaya who taught me to aim at the eye of the bird ,,,where the god of life lives.

I also learnt from photographers masters I met later in life like Dr Glenn Losack MD from New York my mentor my guide .. and any other Flickr photographers who visited me at my humble home ..and became a part of my family.

But I must also mention people like Anil Risal Singh Bhupesh Little Venay Paralkar who were there when I was learning to fiddle with my camera learning it to play music with it as a visual art.

There are others like Jean Marc Gargantiel, Marc De Clercq and many others ..Marziya also learnt from them as diligently as I learnt from them too.

An another nine more pictures I will complete 155000 photo blogs at Flickr .in about 3 years..with over 1200000 views ..

This was shot by Marziya sometimes back, and every time I pass this old lady who sits all alone at Chinchpokli Road Bandra, she will inquire about my 3 year old grand daughter, already well known with her own exclusive fan following,

Marziya is yet to understand why people make fuss abut her photography, its part of her relationship with me and my camera and nothing more, and she kissed the hands of this lady after the shot .

Humility is the essence of people photography, she knows the lady is older and honestly I try to become a three year old myself when I am around with Marziya and than I am astounded does Marziya become 58 years old when she is around me.. I dont think so, perhaps being a Malang's grand daughter she may have inherited my sixth sense my inner sense of feeling a sense of deja vue reawakening a moments much before it happens.

I am updating this old post on my 7 roza, I slept soundlessly, after she had shot Nerjis Asif Shakir on the new Nikon D 3100, she handed it over to me, she knew when to stop the most important aspect of photography in general.

As both of them , my wife and Marziya went to the Shia Mefhil , my wife was invited for an Iftar there , I broke my fast all alone , my computer for company.

When she came she never asked for the camera I do not want the camera to be a passion , her dolls her books and her drawings and You Tube nursery rhymes are more than enough now..

Photography is a means to see an insular world through the peephole of Life.,..

All this while she is recovering from a long drawn illness over three weeks now , away from kids and school.. in a world of adults and the world of a 21 day old child Nerjis Asif Shakir .

The pictures she shot on the Nikon D 3100 are yet to be downloaded , I have not seen what she shot, and though it takes time to get used to a new camera for her it was child's play , once a camera becomes a part of your system , it is an additional sense and a limb by default.

My wife met Larry at a Sons of the Confederacy memorial service and found herself invited to an open house at the Victorian home he is restoring with his partner Terry. She called me excitedly, and when I got off work I grabbed my camera and drove over.

Larry and Terry recently found a hidden chamber beneath their home with an underground passageway leading towards the river. They speculate that the influential builder of the home used the passageway to spirit in his black wife and the children she bore him during the years immediately after the American Civil War.

Like many of the Sons of the Confederacy, Larry finds the term "American Civil War" to be a phrase of propaganda written by the victor of a bloody struggle between brothers. Larry prefers to call that struggle the War for Southern Independence. He is quick to point out that secession and rebellion of the Southern states in 1861 was as legitimate as the secession of the American colonies from the British crown in 1776.

The excavation of the hidden chamber and tunnel on the property was off limits to the general public, as workers are still unearthing its secrets beneath the ground. Larry and Terry's historical home was decorated with the floral arrangements from the morning's memorial service. Terry works as a florist and did not want the arrangements to wither away in a cemetery.

Terry was still a bit shy about being photographed, but Larry was proud to remove his hat and pose beside the red white and blue arrangement on their front lawn. It was interesting to see people, both black and white, file past the battle flag of the Confederacy to view their common history.

Some might consider Larry to be a bigot based on his interest in an indelible period of history in the United States. Larry points out that history which is twisted or forgotten leaves lessons unlearned. History is simply history. It can illuminate our humanity, or we can run from it as ignorant as we were before, and never benefit from it's harsh lessons. Larry is no bigot. He is a historian; a historian who wants to preserve history for the lessons it can provide, not erase or hide it because of the shame and self doubt it brings to the surface.

I talked with Larry and Terry at length between the tours of their home, and I found them to be an interesting couple with wildly eclectic persuasions. They agreed to model for prints in the future, and I am looking forward to the prospect.

Larry is number nineteen in my 100 Strangers project. Find out more about the project and see pictures taken by other photographers at the flickr group page.

~ John B. Mahan, 1838

This is a an old blog I bring forward via Aviary editing tool I use prolifically at Flickr to erase the color element of my pictures to etch my restless angst.... it was my 36000 blog that time when I posted it , in all humility typing with just one finger of a permanently damaged right hand I have crossed over 287000 blogs..Now read the old blog below..

Mr Shreekanth Malushte needs no introduction, this man is larger than life,he shot this picture. So though you dont see him, his presence fills my pictorial frame..

Mr Shreekanth Malushte is a ardent fan of George Eastman founder of Kodak company.

George Eastman was created by a restless God , and man in the restlessness of his mind created the Camera that changed all our lives.

The camera is an instrument of pranic healing..

It may have not healed the sickness that Mr George Eastman was undergoing when he ended it with the famous words in his suicide note..

"To my friends: My work is done. Why wait? ...

Mr Shreekanth Malushte teaches photography, at grass root level this ex professor of the prestigious Maharashtra College..

I was lucky to have been taught photography by him, when my friend Mr Subhash Solanki sold me my first camera Nikon F50..he handed me a visiting card of Mr Shreekanth Malushte..the rest is history.

My daughter learnt photography through Mr Malushte..waiting restlessly in the wings is Marziya Shakir my 9 month old grand daughter a child prodigy..

So I pray that God gives Mr Malushte a very long life so that Marziya can boast when she comes of age ..that she too learnt photography from Mr Shreekanth Malushte.

And yes Mr Shreekanth Malushte and his charming wife were there when her dad Asif Shakir got married..

Mr Malushte teaches an art called Unlearning Photography..

He makes you a camera instead, that you become the lens film and negative..

This can be crazy if it goes beyond the human limit..

Craziness is indeed a part of evolving in photography.

A photographer must be a poet to add the roundness to his pictorial soul.. an added asset and dimensional..

When I say poet or poetry I talk of a silence of the soul.. wordlessly through pictures.

Mr Sreekanth Malushte introduced me to the Photographic Society of India lovingly called PSI Mumbai that celebrates its annual day this 29 August 2008.

Through Mr Shreekanth Malushte who taught me my basics , I met my other two Gurus both giants and stalwarts Prof BW Jatkar and Dronacharya KG Maheshwari.

They took my love of photography to another high salon participation.. much before I became an incorrigible photo blogger.

On Dahi Handi Day I got a call from Mr Malushte if I could come to Jijamata Udhyan Byculla and model for his new students like I had done a few years back at the same venue.

I obliged and the picture shot by Mr Malushte is a result of this outing..

After shooting the colonial past , a few shots in the zoo I left to shoot the Dahi Handi..taking a cab from Byculla to Lalbagh.

So this is my new set at my Flickr photostream..

This is my 5099 post this month August.

36117 photoblogs since I joined Flickr in June 2007

Yes I would be homeless as photo blogger without Flickr..

From Flickr I cross blog to my other web sites.

All my pictures thoughts poetry originates at Flickr

You have to be signed in to see my world..for my graphic pictures of moharam and the naga sadhus and maha kumbh..my set on the transgender over 20000 images has been removed by me from public view ,, for personal reasons.

Wife of Mr Arun Saha a photographer in the Air Force ..this too is an outdoor photograph..Mr Maheshwaris lighting.

I met her husband he was returning from Lucknow like me we talked old times.

I remember the first time I met this couple at Photographic Society of India , I was rude to her husband , he had asked me a query on my Black n Whites , when we met for this shoot at Nasik under my Master KG Maheshwaris workshop , I apologized for my past behaviour..

As a photographer I had my faults but as a photo blogger I got rid of most , yes for me black is not white or grey..I am unlearning photography by becoming a photo blogger.

Shri Sadanand of Agni Akhada :

I was waiting outside the Akhada premises at Sevagram, to catch a glimpse of him, his bodyguards told me that he would come out for darshan, I took his picture after taking his permission,,turned my back and was going away, I was dressed in my normal trouser , shirt attire, not the exotic clothes that I wear.

He called me back, he looked deep into my eyes , said 'You are a Momin arent you' this is what the Shia are called among Muslims.I was shocked but did not betray any emotion , I said 'Yes '.

He said wash your hands , as a devotee gave me water , than he pulled out a silver coin presented to me, the moment I touched the coin, I went down on my knees automatically, he said look at the coin, the coin was the image of Mecca our Holy city it had the Kaaba on it, , he walked away without hearing my thanks. In the meanwhile all his devotees rushed up to me kissing the coin taken from my my hands.

This was the mysticism of the Kumbh , for a Muslim man like me.

As I walked away a man caught up with me, rich man gold in abundance on his body, he came to the point...He said 'Will you sell the coin I am offering you Rs 5000/I declined , pushed my way into the crowds.

I still have the silver coin of a reminder of my tryst with a spirtual destiny.

This is Hope and Hindutva the cornerstone of my cultural inheritance.

There was so much to learn to absorb at the Kumbh, the Kumbh is not just an important part of a Hindu calendar, the Kumbh is a chapter of your after life opening to the present.

I start the Kumbh experience, these are pictures embedded in memories, the picture quality has been reduced in terms of Dpi..as there is much I have to post , within the limit set by Bloggers inMb.I do not intend taking an upgrade , as this is a purely sharing religious sentiment with absolutely no commercial craving.

A lot of people approached me to buy off my Hindu, Shia , Sufi Christian images , though I was broke sometimes but never interested.. I got it free I give it back to the community I took from..I may be not as talkative or self explanatory on the next posts, so read the silence of a spirituality in my pictures. These are timeless moments of my unlearning photography.

Art Prostitute exhibition of Dave Kinsey's work.

You learned men, and such as learning love,

Vouchsafe to read this rude unlearned verse;

For stones are doombe, and yet for mannes behove,

God lends them tongues sometymes for to rehearse

Such worth of words as worthiest wittes may pearse;

Yea stones oftymes, when bloode and bones be rott,

Do blase the brute which ells might be forgott:

And in that heap of carved stones doth lye

A worthy Knight, whose life, in learning shedd,

Did make his name to mounte above the skie.

With sacred skill unto a King he redd,

Whose towarde youth his famous praises spredde;

And he therefore to courtly life was called,

Who more desyred in study to be stalled.

Philosophy had taught his learned mynde

To stand content with contrye quyet lyie;

Wherein he dwelt as one that was assynde

To guard the same from sundry stormes of stryfe:

And yet when persecuting rage was ryfe,

His helping hand did never fail to stay

His country's staff, but help it up alway.

No highe advance, nor office of availe,

Could tempte his thoughts to row beyond his reache;

By broont of bookes he only did assayle

The forte of Fame, whereto he made his breach.

With tyre of trewthe, whiche God's goode wordc doth teache,

The wreathe he woore was dewe for his degree;

He neyther rose by riche rewarde nor fee;

And yet although he bare his sayles so lowe,

The gales of grace did speed his course so faste.

That in his lyfe he did righte well bestowe

His children, all before their pryme was paste.

And linckte them so as they be lyke to lasle.

What should I say, but only this in summe,

Beatus hic qui timet Domiuum?

That only skille, that learninge beares the belle,

And that of skill I thoughte (poor stone) to treate;

That such as lyke to use their learninge well,

Mighte reade theis lines, and therewith oft repeate

How here on earthe his gyfte from God is great,

Which can employ his learninge to the best;

So did this Knighte whiche here with me dothe reste.

"Circumstances do not make the man; they merely reveal him to himself."

Scenes from a retreat in the Catskills. Nineteen visionaries spend a week at work on new projects and strategies for wholesome and sovereign living.

The Catholic Faith is the universal faith; it is not the faith of the pope or the faith of some higher Vatican officials. Therefore, it is very comforting to know that there is a point of unity for all nations, for all races. The ideal of the Universal Faith is to develop the awareness among the peoples that we are all one Body, one Spirit, under one God.

The Catholic faith is not a doctrine. It is not a series of dogmas one must assent to in order to escape eternal damnation, no, and faith is a personal encounter with Jesus Christ who lives after giving his life on the cross for the salvation of all. The Catholic Church is not an institution, nor a beaurocracy, much less a corporation. Although it is often not much more than this, at the core of it's being is the life in the Spirit of Christ who sent forth the Spirit as the He himself was sent into the world, by the Father, Creator of all things seen and unseen.

The beauty of the Catholic Church lies not in the art and elegance neither of its temples nor in the science and eloquence of its doctors. It is not in the speculations of its theologians. No, not at all. The beauty of it is that by which Jesus himself is amazed, the fact that God, the Father of all has revealed its secrets to the lowly and concealed them from the learned, yes because that has been the fathers choice he praises him. Yes this is the beauty of the Catholic Church, the treasure that is now kept in living tabernacles, in simple men and women of all races, suffering, poor, and unlearned.

When one evangelizes among the undocumented immigrants in this country, when one visits the detentions centers and finds a robust faith in the lowly who place all their trust in the Lord, one realizes it is all a wonderful mystery and that little do we know about God or his ways to deal with souls. It is sad, I believe, to see the Catholic Church become a corporation where the spiritual leaders act as administrators. Where the faith crisis is so deep that people hold to activity and statistics to measure their relation to God.

What I question about the Catholic faith is its leadership, the priesthood, and the one-sided decision process of their ruling policies. The worst scandal in the Church is not of a sexual nature, nor the riches and the lifestyle, no, for me the worst scandal is the lack of love in the Church, the lack of community, the lack of human relationships within the congregations. I see a polarization in the Catholic Church that could end up in a new schism. On the one side those aware of social justice and love for the poor, and on the other hand, the orthodox and their love of comfort, good living, knowledge, and the pope.

The Catholic Church is in crisis. That is obvious, but what to do? Go back to medieval practices, or Latin masses? Yes, perhaps we should go back, even further, back to the first centuries of Christianity, long before Constantine, and recover the spirit of humility, simplicity and discover Jesus in our world today as he heals the sick, gives life to the dead, and calms the storm. No point in having the pope come down to America if Jesus is not welcome in the hearts and minds of Catholics; we are followers of Christ not of the pope. We are witnesses of his resurrection not teachers of religion. We are called to live in the Spirit, not to rule the wealthy and to stand in front of huge crowds while the world is in darkness.

I took this photo of my boyfriend at Grounds for Sculpture.

He was reading the following excerpt from Walt Whitman's "Song of Myself"

"I have heard what the talkers were talking, the talk of the beginning and the end,

But I do not talk of the beginning or the end.

There was never any more inception than there is now,

Nor any more youth or age than there is now,

And will never be any more perfection than there is now,

Nor any more heaven or hell than there is now.

Urge and urge and urge,

Always the procreant urge of the world.

Out of the dimness opposite equals advance, always substance and increase, always sex,

Always a knit of identity, always distinction, always a breed of life.

To elaborate is no avail, learn’d and unlearn’d feel that it is so.

Sure as the most certain sure, plumb in the uprights, well entretied, braced in the beams,

Stout as a horse, affectionate, haughty, electrical,

I and this mystery here we stand."
