Nerjis Asif Shakir 9 month old is a fighter ..she doe not give up and through her we mortals get our strength our hope , she has carved her destiny on this beggar poets scarred soul, healing him as she heals herself..
She is learning to walk, she uses the Black Berry to call people whom I may have forgotten she presses the keys and I am talking to old friends ..
She knows the actual meaning of the lap top and she connects herself to all of you..
Than comes the camera , after every shot I show her the outcome on the monitor , yes I began teaching this child photography from the very first day she was born I placed her hands on the soul of the camera the third eye of Shiva the cosmic eye that misses nothing not even your borrowed heart beat.
I dont know whether my grand daughters will become photographers but I know through the camera they will heal the soul of beggars the untouchables the eunuchs .. those children of the lesser god that the greater man has forgotten too.
And my grand children have given me a purpose ..they are my Learners Academy I unlearn from them the meaning of Life..
Nerjis Asif Shakir born on the same day as her father 17 July..
And her favorite toy is the measuring tape.. these days, that accidentally fell from my pocket and now she wont let it go..

His highly praised self-titled debut album was released in 2008, followed by his 2nd Studio Album „There Is An Ocean That Divides“ a year later and his 3rd solo-record „Gallantry`s Favorite Son“ in 2011.
Whoever has experienced Scott Matthew and his wonderful musicians live on stage is oddly touched. His emotional investment in song and singing is huge. His presence intensifies the disarming and immediacy of his work though is able to give an ease to the evening with two or three words between his songs.
He always loved to reinterpret the songs from his favorite singers, writers and composers and add them as encore to his setlists. This is still part of his concerts and the audience is looking forward every night to this" personal hitparade"
His new studio album UNLEARNED will be a collection of his personal favorites like Harvest Moon (Neil Young), No Surprises (Radiohead) or To Love Somebody (Bee Gees) reinterpret only with his mesmerizing, heart-melting and captivating voice and the Scott Matthew typical instrumentation of piano, strings, guitar and his ukulele. He also invited some guests as duet partner.

Former Khe Sanh Combat Base, Vietnam - My son jumped at the chance to ride on the barrel of this bombed out tank. Khe Sanh, one of the most catastrophically pointless battles of the Vietnam war was a giant diversion from the 1968 TET Offensive. After the battle the US Military decision makers decided it wasn't worth holding and retreated. Removing all traces of the base from the area so that the North Vietnamese couldn't use anything from the base for propaganda. Now the former base houses a crummy museum and some war junk.
Westmorland and the Joint Chiefs of Staff even considered using tactical nuclear weapons to defend the base if needed. Lyndon Johnson even forced all involved that under no circumstances would the base fall tot he NVA. This was very reflective of the inane US policy in Vietnam. The base didn't matter, the location didn't matter and it didn't matter so much that after loosing so many Americans defending it we just moved on. America rarely held territory in Vietnam. They pacified it and then months later would have to re-pacifiy the same area because the VC and NVA would move back in as soon as they left. America has been slow to unlearn this poor strategy.
Do you really need the camera to shoot the streets ..because I dont carry my DSLR when I go out on my walks or take my grandkids for tennis lessons I shoot mostly on my mobile phone HTC Desire 826 ,, the best phone for my kind of pictures still or video..
Nerjis spotted the drunk sozzled in his dreams and knew I would shoot him so she began posing in front of him and winking at me too ,, that she had spotted him and shot him all be it without a camera ,, this is what I taught Nerjis since she was 2 year old ,,unlearn photography ,,
She is highly observant much quicker in her reflexes than me she has not picked up my DSLR for a very long time now ,, but it does not matter ,, if you have the camera in your head working the camera in the hand is redundant ,, it is merely a tool ,, nothing else ,, it can neither override the cosmic eye in the center of the head or give an opinion..
I could have given my mobile phone to Nerjis to shoot it too, but her mind was at the tennis court , and the joy of getting away from our house ,,the same toys the same faces and the same monotony ,,,because children are very perspective , their range of understanding is totally fine tuned .
After the tennis session I did not take her to the park next door as it was wet and soggy due to the rains .
I bought her an ice cream and two small packets of wafers .. that made her happy ..and when we reached home her ma and Marziya were out shopping , my wife was out too. she took her clay and got busy with it ,,not interested even in seeing the video I had shot of her .

Concluding #oopaja March 2011 workshops - reading Climbing a Dark Mountain, and Thoughts on a New Culture by Dave Pollard:
...The essence of the Dark Mountain Movement is aesthetic and creative generosity — a willingness to hold a mirror to the world to show it as it really is, complex and nuanced and full of intractable challenges, which requires an enormous amount of attention and investigation and deep thought, and the imagination to conceive of better ways to live as our world slips deeper into monoculture, anomie, rigidity and mindless homogeneity.
What is disconcerting is that there is relatively little awareness among those in the four movements of what the others are doing, and the possible synergies between the models...
THE new literary & capacity is the willingness to test, re-test and re-test what OTHER emergent groups and movements are doing. -There are many processes and procedures that are relatively new - implemented during the last couple of decades - that already and especially need to be unlearned. My point of view is especially how IT widely has been implemented in my home country - but what I repeatedly understand through blogs written throughout the Western world, this is not at all a Finnish only challenge.

Now you must be wondering who is this lady of Bandra Reclamation living under the umbrella.
Nobody knows her name , though once she has lived and seen good times , she never moves out from under this umbrella.
A few days back Mumbai had the heaviest rains of this season and she faced it all, I hate shooting her picture , as I have no balls to see her in the eye, she lives more contended than I do..Marziya likes her I give Marziya a tenner and braving the surrounding muck, Marziya goes and hands it over to her.
I want Marziya to understand pain compassion before she learns photography.
I want her to learn humility..she understands it as she watches observantly the traffic beggar kids at Linking Road from the rickshah.
They all love Marziya .
So I shoot wild orchids on the road, I dont belittle people who shoot flowers ., insects , gardens I dont think I could shoot this at all..and it is not necessary you shoot what I shoot but do try to shoot a tear from a child's eye , waiting for his next meal and you will know what I mean.
I was not into beggar photography but pain is cinematic too , it requires a very large canvas , and though it is not my genre it is part and parcel of what I call street photography.
The umbrella lady has survived many a rainy season , waters in my area have been waist high last year , but she was always there the next morning, I have never seen her standing up, I dont know how she answers the call of nature ..
But tell me honestly who the fuck really cares a fart about her ..will electronic media ever cover the stories that I shave shot with a defective still camera,,
Blogging is not about words its about adding soul it is about adding humanity to the silence of the lamb- the photo blog..
Media , journos gun for our ass , We have no editorial constrains we dont have to go under the editors desk to give him head , if he had a good head he would not be allowing the shit that is palmed of us as photo journalism, in the morning newspapers , oops forgive me I almost puked over the Times of India.
Give a new kid with a camera a chance - I have said this earlier too, to get even with the arrogance of a photo journalist God created the camera in the mobile phone....ha ha ha
Marziya will start shooting pictures much before she is 2 and half years old...Marziya has already learnt the first few chapters of Unlearning Photography..
I have kept the Nikon F100 for her and a Fuji film too.

#kouluschool occupied the old premises of the Lapinlahti Mental Hospital in Helsinki during the last weekend. The issue was peer teaching / unlearning together. - When the teacher simultaneously learns / unlearns what s/he teaches - s/he feels the feelings of the co-learners. This is the phenomenon I feel most badly lacks within present teaching.
Special thanks to Heikki Vuorila for daring to choose Socratic Dialogue for an unlearning method and Erja Lahdenperä for deepening the theme of the day - flourishing!

Come you masters of war
You that build all the guns
You that build the death planes
You that build the big bombs
You that hide behind walls
You that hide behind desks
I just want you to know
I can see through your masks
You that never done nothin’
But build to destroy
You play with my world
Like it’s your little toy
You put a gun in my hand
And you hide from my eyes
And you turn and run farther
When the fast bullets fly
Like Judas of old
You lie and deceive
A world war can be won
You want me to believe
But I see through your eyes
And I see through your brain
Like I see through the water
That runs down my drain
You fasten the triggers
For the others to fire
Then you set back and watch
When the death count gets higher
You hide in your mansion
As young people’s blood
Flows out of their bodies
And is buried in the mud
You’ve thrown the worst fear
That can ever be hurled
Fear to bring children
Into the world
For threatening my baby
Unborn and unnamed
You ain’t worth the blood
That runs in your veins
How much do I know
To talk out of turn
You might say that I’m young
You might say I’m unlearned
But there’s one thing I know
Though I’m younger than you
Even Jesus would never
Forgive what you do
Let me ask you one question
Is your money that good
Will it buy you forgiveness
Do you think that it could
I think you will find
When your death takes its toll
All the money you made
Will never buy back your soul
And I hope that you die
And your death’ll come soon
I will follow your casket
In the pale afternoon
And I’ll watch while you’re lowered
Down to your deathbed
And I’ll stand o’er your grave
’Til I’m sure that you’re dead
This is a picture that Rehana my kid sister sent me of Sherizade the Persian Calico Princess, before I went to Bangalore, its a bit fuzzy, a feline quality found among felines and females..
Women are human impersonations of cats, they have all cat like qualities, their fluffy bodies, womn body hair has its own intrinsic unique quality, that they shed such is the vagaries of their female sex hormone, women if you dont have a blocked nostril have feline musky smell, it gets stronger and all pervading if they have their periods, in my drunken days and my over morbid sexual stupor I did sleep with a Goan feamale who thought bathing was robbing away the essence of her womanhood..I can assure the fragrance or that love making on the wet bottom of a car in the monsoon still remains an unforgettable memory..Goan women stink and the stink is very heatish and touches the core of mans sexual divinity..She wanted to marry me this head giving head strong woman , but she wanted me to become Catholic, and change my name to Firoze FX Fernandes, that this name was incidentally owned by my Holy Name Ex Horny Principal who spared no women cassock is not part of the perjury...That I wish not to commit..
Well Women those that are are as frisky as kittens, but with a deadly female dog quality of survival .. are a deadly specie..they have three souls instead of the one that God miserly gave..sometimes without offending God I think , had he made Man a Eunuch it would have been wiser ,a eunuch that could love eunuch, having both sets of organs, and the quality of reproduction, this woman thing badly misfired and fucked the world from asshole to eternity.
Any way I digress Women are catlike, claws paws and all, everytime wanting mans seminal solitude , and solicitude of mans milk of human kindness, women love to turn over, women love to Meeeeeeeeeeaow.. this one quality is euphoric historic metaphotic, yes believe me Yorrik...and women on the wilder side can be more than Whorric..
Well Women can see in the dark, no doubt about that, they can see your stashed away cash, your boyfriend if you are the two timing loving both sides of the rump of a bread ,
women are feline , a mysterious race, a mystical race , women like cats have good toilet habits they leave no trace..I dont know if cats would love to be called Women, the menstrauation machinations and all women caprices..
But yes Women are Cats in one single life they carry as many as nine lives, babykins, toddler, sweetie kid , lollita , prepubescant pesky, barbie, shrew, married matron, and become poets the worst stage of a womans metamorphosis, going after tired men, women poet love like cats to rub themselves , here anything will do, the edge of the drawing table, the cocklike feel of the chair leg, and women poets ike cats love licking, licking and more licking, they throw up badly as fucked comments on poems written by tired men, luckily women poets were not born with cocks.. that would be courting a cockeyed catastrophe..
Women yes for once God fucked it up badly, but his only saving grace was that he had made Man and the serpent both fuck women anyway..Man with a serpent and the serpent within Man..
And believe me a few catlike Womens Paradise is at Fucked Forums at Poem Hunter...
I think I will continue this after taking inputs from sister Rehana who is a much better closet writer than me..
She is just waiting to break out..
This is for Sherizade fluffykins .. a feline but not a woman female fatale.. cats have so much to unlearn from Women...

You proved that here in this dusty archive. Where scholars meet students, where students meet what passes for reality...on a good day.
Arjuna turned to Krishna, both on the battlefield, and, perplexed, asked Krishna a question, 'My uncle is my opponent this day. Why must I attempt to kill my own blood? ' Krishna replied, 'You are a soldier. You must fulfill your destiny. Killing your uncle is not the bad thing. The bad thing is not fullfilling what you were meant to do.'

Since she was very tiny the only toy was a miniature camera that was part of Marziyas growing childhood , and at two years and eleven months she knows the real from the fake.
She barely touches the camera that was her training tool to shoot pictures with a blindfold .. it was to get used to the feel of the camera till it became a part of her consciousness .
It is the Nikon D 80 I mean.
She knows the buttons and she shoots vivid pictures through the soul of darkness .
This is the first disciple that has taught the Guru lessons in the Art of Unlearning Photography.
...Backlighting in a scene can create drama. Make a photo with interesting placement of backlit subjects."
Familiarizing with en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Backlighting_(lighting_design) today - I learned that "in photography, a back light is usually the sun". On a grey day - I did some window shopping paying attention to how "the edges of the item are made to glow". I was able to spot background and side lighting in the shop premises and the key light in above front. The result is that the quilt work is "lit" whereas the rest of the shop window shows reflection of the street in front of the shop.
Today's photo continues yesterday's reflection theme - what's there when the reflection ends. ...unlearning requires competences on critical reflection. ...Mezirow describes unlearning process within adult education as follows - the process has ten phases:
1) A disorientating dilemma
2) Self-examination
3) Critical assessment and a sense of alienation
4) Relating discontent to the experiences of others
5) Exploring options for new ways of acting
6) Building confidence for new ways of behaving
7) Planning a course of action
8) Acquiring knowledge in order to implement plans
9) Experimenting with new roles
10) Reintegration into society
All phases are necessary - unavoidable - if we want to learn to adapt to changes in a way that we simultaneously adopt different ways of networked collaboration in order to achieve next innovative phases. The process is very complex. That's why it needs to be cut into smaller pieces - steps that are easier to understand and take. That's why we need a micro approach - like #microwork #microlearning #microinnovation...

One of his early successes came with the soundtracks "Lithium Flower" and "Beauty Is Within Us" for the Japanese animation-serial Ghost in the Shell, as well as with the title song “Is It Real?”, for the animation-serial Cowboy Bebop. All being composed by Yoko Kanno .
Please note this was shot when Nerjis was One year Old ,, now three she shoots the streets of Bandra like a Pro,,,
A message sent to a fellow photographer ,..as forward to Wishes for World Photography Day Aug 19
Promoting photography is good but what disheartens me is nothing has changed the same lighting the same slavish following the old masters and a few pseudo old new masters whose world has disappeared and a new brave world highly digitized more , enervating takes its place , new approach, new perspectives greater use of poetry as a imaginative tool and we at camera club level have no desire to be part of this change and these are my personal views , see one camera club newsletters the images are the same , the lighting the same and than I wonder are we really photographers are mere copycats wanting to remain cowardly backwards ..regressive in time warp and time lapse..
And I hope all this changes one day .. it has I have made my grand daughters both one year old and 4 year old Canon EOS 60D users to see the world as it exists .. without adding or subtracting from the restless angst of the poetry of life.. they shoot and unlearn photography.

Just like these rats, most people who drink alcohol excessively do not have any other "issues" causing the addictive habit. And that's about 15 million people in the U.S. alone! The alcohol, all by itself, is the source of the problem for these people. It is now known that Alcoholism is a learned behavior that can be unlearned. The Sinclair Method does this and can cure over 70% of all AUD sufferers in 3-12 months. Just Google it and find out how ! Here's a link to the award-winning documentary:

Marziya has shot my youngest son Saif Sakir and my nephew Shayan son of my kid brother Firdaus Shakir ..
Shayan is Marziyas Uncle too.
Marziya learnt to shoot pictures with a blindfold she was two tears old at that time she had mastered the art of holding the Nikon D 80 too , the camera was a bit heavy but she manages it with ease even now , she wont take the camera without first placing the strap round her neck..she aims and shoots I have never had to delete any of her pictures such is the clarity of thought in her pictures that she shoots with a divine passion..
Marziya shoots street pictures , and without being intimidated by crowds or kids older than her Marziya shoots her class kids too.It is all question of Mijaz or a state of mind ..
Not merely shooting pictures , but also seeing them once I upload them on Flickr she will proudly tell her mother it was shot by her..she knows the pictures she has shot we both shoot identical street story pictures.
There are times she will ask me to show her childhood pictures when she was barely two days old and her life's story is a running stream on Flickr..I captured nuances of her life her emotions her pangs and the poetry of her growth.
I did it as a grandfather and as a in house photographer of my family, I have never shot any of my children as prodigiously as Marziya..and also because Marziya was the birth of my grand fatherhood too.
But I know the greatest , ultimate tool of learning is honing ones vision through the camera , the camera is an instrument of peace and humanity if used holistically as I have used it as a street photographer.
If your pictures connect half the work is done, who cares for cult status or being as famous as another photographer..I shoot shit on the road I shoot garbage I shoot pain I shoot life ,,and life shoots me back ricocheting an impulse that produces poetry.
And I owe this all to people who came in my life and turned it upside down.. I owe it to my three gurus Prof BW Jatkar who though dead ignites the soul of my photography, Mr Shreekanth Malushte the humble but sincere teacher of grass root photography and the the Grand Master Mr KG Maheshwariji...Dronachaya who taught me to aim at the eye of the bird ,,,where the god of life lives.
I also learnt from photographers masters I met later in life like Dr Glenn Losack MD from New York my mentor my guide .. and any other Flickr photographers who visited me at my humble home ..and became a part of my family.
But I must also mention people like Anil Risal Singh Bhupesh Little Venay Paralkar who were there when I was learning to fiddle with my camera learning it to play music with it as a visual art.
There are others like Jean Marc Gargantiel, Marc De Clercq and many others ..Marziya also learnt from them as diligently as I learnt from them too.
An another nine more pictures I will complete 155000 photo blogs at Flickr .in about 3 years..with over 1200000 views ..

This was shot by Marziya sometimes back, and every time I pass this old lady who sits all alone at Chinchpokli Road Bandra, she will inquire about my 3 year old grand daughter, already well known with her own exclusive fan following,
Marziya is yet to understand why people make fuss abut her photography, its part of her relationship with me and my camera and nothing more, and she kissed the hands of this lady after the shot .
Humility is the essence of people photography, she knows the lady is older and honestly I try to become a three year old myself when I am around with Marziya and than I am astounded does Marziya become 58 years old when she is around me.. I dont think so, perhaps being a Malang's grand daughter she may have inherited my sixth sense my inner sense of feeling a sense of deja vue reawakening a moments much before it happens.
I am updating this old post on my 7 roza, I slept soundlessly, after she had shot Nerjis Asif Shakir on the new Nikon D 3100, she handed it over to me, she knew when to stop the most important aspect of photography in general.
As both of them , my wife and Marziya went to the Shia Mefhil , my wife was invited for an Iftar there , I broke my fast all alone , my computer for company.
When she came she never asked for the camera I do not want the camera to be a passion , her dolls her books and her drawings and You Tube nursery rhymes are more than enough now..
Photography is a means to see an insular world through the peephole of Life.,..
All this while she is recovering from a long drawn illness over three weeks now , away from kids and school.. in a world of adults and the world of a 21 day old child Nerjis Asif Shakir .
The pictures she shot on the Nikon D 3100 are yet to be downloaded , I have not seen what she shot, and though it takes time to get used to a new camera for her it was child's play , once a camera becomes a part of your system , it is an additional sense and a limb by default.
My wife met Larry at a Sons of the Confederacy memorial service and found herself invited to an open house at the Victorian home he is restoring with his partner Terry. She called me excitedly, and when I got off work I grabbed my camera and drove over.
Larry and Terry recently found a hidden chamber beneath their home with an underground passageway leading towards the river. They speculate that the influential builder of the home used the passageway to spirit in his black wife and the children she bore him during the years immediately after the American Civil War.
Like many of the Sons of the Confederacy, Larry finds the term "American Civil War" to be a phrase of propaganda written by the victor of a bloody struggle between brothers. Larry prefers to call that struggle the War for Southern Independence. He is quick to point out that secession and rebellion of the Southern states in 1861 was as legitimate as the secession of the American colonies from the British crown in 1776.
The excavation of the hidden chamber and tunnel on the property was off limits to the general public, as workers are still unearthing its secrets beneath the ground. Larry and Terry's historical home was decorated with the floral arrangements from the morning's memorial service. Terry works as a florist and did not want the arrangements to wither away in a cemetery.
Terry was still a bit shy about being photographed, but Larry was proud to remove his hat and pose beside the red white and blue arrangement on their front lawn. It was interesting to see people, both black and white, file past the battle flag of the Confederacy to view their common history.
Some might consider Larry to be a bigot based on his interest in an indelible period of history in the United States. Larry points out that history which is twisted or forgotten leaves lessons unlearned. History is simply history. It can illuminate our humanity, or we can run from it as ignorant as we were before, and never benefit from it's harsh lessons. Larry is no bigot. He is a historian; a historian who wants to preserve history for the lessons it can provide, not erase or hide it because of the shame and self doubt it brings to the surface.
I talked with Larry and Terry at length between the tours of their home, and I found them to be an interesting couple with wildly eclectic persuasions. They agreed to model for prints in the future, and I am looking forward to the prospect.
Larry is number nineteen in my 100 Strangers project. Find out more about the project and see pictures taken by other photographers at the flickr group page.
