Following today's visit to the nutritionist Jedi master, I am now, like a tiny-trousered hipstamatic hipster, compulsively photographing my food. When I took this shot, I was ecstatic. In exchange for £150, I spent 75 minutes with a nutritionist who specialises in post-menopause and insulin-resistance. For starters, the one-page handout which I had been given in April and have been diligently following ever since, is "slightly wrong" in places. So, I am now allowed cheese and I have been trained in the ways of The Right Sort of Yogurt, which, apparently, contains enough fats/protein to offset a slightly larger helping of berries. My frustrating experiments with bread were to be replaced by the new possibilities of The Right Sort of Oatcake. i.e. very low GI. Plus a booklet of recipes and lists of which type of bread should be OK, which types of potato etc and the appropriate quantities. It's not all sorted by any means but things were looking better. The nutritionist reckoned I would probably be OK with most things on the list, and should be able to gain some weight. My excitement at the prospect of being able to binge on cheese, all be it 40g at a time, was uncontainable!

'Mugsborough Revisited.'

On Sunday 14th October a tour of Hastings to visit places associated with 'The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists' and its author Robert Tressell was led by local historian Steve Peak . Steve vividly described the growth of Hastings and St Leonard: the places where Tressell lived and worked, social and political developments at the time and their connections to the book. Mugsborough is the name given by Tressell to his fictional town - but he drew heavily on his experiences in Hastings.

This guy was head to toe in classic Chinese menswear, on an immaculately polished bike, while the others around him chilled out on bamboo chairs in vests and flip-flops. Whether he was of ”higher status“ than the others, I don't know, but he dressed the part, maybe he was a retired policeman or something similar, I didn't ask. I've found that people who take pride in appearance in such a way almost never refuse a photo. It was only after I asked that I noticed the trouser leg.

I was just on my way out to the doctors this morning and this little one tugged on my trouser leg. I looked down and she shook her head at me.

''What is the matter little girlie?'' I asked.

She didn't say a word, she just shook her head and looked all sad.

''I will be back soon, Ruby, Lottie and the others will take good care of you'' I told her

But when she looked at me with those huge pleading eyes, I had to pick her up and pop her in my bag.

Ruby shouted

I left her with my dad in the car park whilst I went in to see the doctor and when I returned there she was sitting on the wall waiting and I do think she looked calmer and maybe our two worlds are starting to come together !
