50 029 Renown arrives at Reading with an unknown working. It was them removed and limped away under its own power. An unknown Class 47/0 sits on the centre road and Class 117 DMU set L417 awaits custom in the adjoining platform.
I can't remember if the 47 took over from 29

Can't remember the exact powers and flash models because I hijacked Toivari's lights to get more rim light. I just borrowed his Youngnuo transmitter and attached it to a slaveunit. 1 rim left and right was his flashes the other two were my SB-24's on 1/2 power. The other flashes were triggered via elinchrom skyports expect the Sony and Minolta which were triggered via the popup flash.

We noticed something was wrong when we didn't see any freight movements anymore for a while. At Erstfeld, we found out there was a problem with the ETCS signalling system further down the line. Trains were being held along the line... which gave us the opportunity for an evening shot at Erstfeld station, after having enjoyed a meal at the local train drivers' restaurant. The blaue Stunde is well underway.
Waiting until the signalling issues are over. SBB 11278 and sister 11626, with a moustache, are posing in artificial light at Erstfeld station.

They were having a discussion about stick placement in the nest they were beginning to build. They were standing on the platform of the nest.

I asked him his name and he said Trouble. He played the drums with the Treme Lafitte Brass Band during the NOLA River Fest second line parade.
This was some interesting ranch decor I found on Spring break in the Laguna mountains of southern California. I don't know what the story was behind this.

Having laid over at Healey Mills for 20 minutes 60096 proceeds through Horbury Cutting just east of the yards heading for Drax power station with its load of Bio Mass from Liverpool Tuebrook sidings.
The ex colas livery was just the tonic for this shot as the weather was becoming increasingly grey and overcast.
A four second exposure of the surf hitting the lava cliffs below our lanai in Poipu Kauai. I used a 10 stop ND filter.

The Union Pacific West Chicago to Troy Grove "turn" (gets its work done in one round-trip shift) has run into trouble! 4 days of remarkable rime icing has trees weighted down, to the point where multiple ones have snapped and fallen onto the tracks in DeKalb, Illinois, completely blocking the train from getting through in multiple locations near Taylor Street. Is this the end of the Troy Grove job today? Will the valuable and needed work get put off for a second day? Will anyone come and rescue our beloved engineer and conductor from this terrible fate?
Obviously this is not a shot I intended. At the time I didn't have my camera set on continuous mode, and was about to take a shot of the snow leopard on the right. I was on a raised platform area behind glass and at least 15 metres from the action as it unfolded. In a flash the snow leopard on the left (without making a sound) came flying out from behind that tree trunk. The snow leopard on the right has responded immediately by getting into a defensive pose and waving its tail furiously. I just clicked the shutter and this is the result. Far from perfect, but at least we can see how the cats behaved.

I better clear this up now so no one reads into this what is not there ... I went out this afternoon late because the rain had finally stopped looking for the sun, this is all I could find of the sun, and it began to rain again, hence troubled yearnings...

Along with challenging myself to shoot and post daily in 2015, I am resolving to no longer be intimidated by Photoshop. Here's a first primitive attempt at a little cloning fun :)
172222 stands in the platform at Great Malvern forming 2S62 to Whiltlocks End. Andy can be seen ambling back towards the train as the ticket office chap marches purposefully down the platform to administer a rebuke to the photographer as they'd passed the 'Do not pass this point sign', sorry about that....
This was part of the view from our lounge at the forward end of the 01 deck level on a ferry sailing up the Yangtze through the Three Gorges during a major flood.
The water's colour is due to the heavy load of silt it is carrying downstream. We knew it was silt, because the water for our showers onboard was taken directly from the river. After one shower with lumps in it, that we could collect, all of us agreed we'd wait until we were ashore before we had another shower - which turned out to be four days!
The turmoil clearly visible in the water was due to the rushing floodwater impacting riverbed rocks (big ones!) and being thrust up and around them, creating upwellings and, on occasion, whirlpools as a result.
We were lucky enough to get through the Three Gorges and into wider, more-placid, but still flooding, waters before the entire river's traffic was stopped because of the dangers. We were eventually compelled to complete the last 300 km of our journey to Chongqing by road...
The map location is arbitrary as I don't know exactly how far through the Gorges we were at this point. Of course, today, all this is gone, plunged into the waters behind the Three Gorges Dam...
