These robins were feeding at the same place but not at the same time. Thought I would have a bit of fun by reversing one of the shots and then merging both together in photoshop.

Episode 2: The Long Night - Part 14

“Hold it right there!” A group of officers pushed their way through the crowd of cheering bystanders, approaching the Crimson Cloak cautiously. “Put your hands on your head pal! Do it now, and step away from these people.”

The Cloak grimaced beneath his red mask. He had been shot at, battered, burned, and had survived a fall into a burning building all during the past twenty-four hours. Now, after all of that, he was going to be arrested. His identity was in jeopardy, and he was desperate. However, there were too many innocent people around to make a clean escape. After a decade of operating as a fugitive vigilante, it looked like he had reached the end of the line.

“Hey!” A voice yelled from the crowd. “Leave’em alone! Can‘t you see he just saved that kid?”

“Yeah, the Crimson Cloak is a hero in my book pal!” Another shouted.

“We’re going to need you to all stand down!” The officer shouted, above the clamor. “Clear out and let us do our job!”

“Listen buddy, if you want to take in the Cloak, you’re going to have to come through us first.” Suddenly, the Indestructible Man and Trick Shot stepped in front of the Crimson Cloak.

“You’re all under arrest…” The officer’s voice cracked slightly, suddenly nervous to be confronted with three costumed vigilantes. As if to punctuate the growing tension, a distant explosion unexpectedly rocked the crowd. The officers’ radios crackled to life with panicked voices reporting on the source of the far-off blast.

“Officer Jones, stand down.” Detective Jack Garnet maneuvered through the crowd towards the other police officers. “Unless you rookies think you can handle this mess in Midtown on your own, I think we’re going to need these guys to lend us a hand.”

Detective Garnet walked over to the three vigilantes, and looked the Crimson Cloak square in the eyes. “It’s bad this time Cloak. Too bad for the NBPD to handle. Some how Celedon the Destroyer was able to escape. She’s made midtown her playground. We can’t contain her, we need the League of Heroes.”

“The League’s dead Detective.” The Crimson Cloak looked towards Midtown as another explosion shook the pavement. “It’s just me, and I can’t take down Celedon alone.”

“You‘ve got us too.” Interrupted Trixie cheerfully, “Trick Shot and the Indestructible Man reporting for duty!”

“Yeah, I’m not sure what I‘m getting myself into, but I don‘t have any plans for the next few hours.” The Indestructible Man said nonchalantly as he rested his crowbar on his shoulder.

“Count me in too.” unnoticed by the crowd until now, the Silver Sentry descended to the ground from amongst the skyscrapers. His armor gleaming in the light of the burning building from across the street. “I don‘t really have much more to lose at this point.”

“Well, it looks like you have your team.” Detective Garnet couldn’t help but grin at the motley assemblage of heroes.

“Not quite. We’re still missing one member.” The Cloak looked skyward. As if on cue he saw a green glow amongst the roof tops that quickly became brighter as it drew closer, until the form of a floating woman could be seen at the center of the radiance.

“Sorry I’m late.” Viridia floated above the awestruck group of civilians.

“Well, the gang’s all here.” Trixie grinned at the Crimson Cloak.

“This isn’t going to be easy. If any of you want to back out, now’s the time to do it. Understood?” The Crimson Cloak stoically regarded each of the heroes as they nodded in agreement. Not one of them budged. “It’s high time that we bring this long night to an end. League of Heroes, suit up!”

Episode 3: Darkest Before Dawn - Part 2

“We interrupt our continuing coverage of the New Brickton prison break, it seems that we are getting an unexpected live feed from the madness in Midtown.” The news anchor stuttered, nervously shuffling through the stack of papers on the news desk. “Frank, can you switch us over…”

Static… and then the picture suddenly changed from the busy news room to a devastated street. A blonde woman, statuesque and menacing stares into a shaky camera lens.

“Good morning citizens of New Brickton. From this day forward, it will be remembered that you sent forth your champions to face Celedon the Destroyer… and I have found them wanting. They lie here now in pathetic heaps, driven before me and broken at my feet. Is this really the best you have to offer? I demand a challenge worthy of my strength! For every hour that I am unsatisfied, I will raise another block of this insignificant city! Your only other option is complete surrender. Death or servitude, I give you the gift of choice mortals. Your first hour begins now.”

The broadcast suddenly cuts to a rainbow test pattern. Unseen by the camera, a winged figure descends to the devastated street. Upon touching down on the pavement, she kneels over the motionless form of the Indestructible Man.

“Wake up! Please!” She shakes Fred’s seemingly lifeless body, “Fred, I don‘t know what’s happened to us, but I do know that you are still alive and I know that we need to get you and your friends out of here.”

Thank you to my lovely Wife for taking these photos for me!

Regular Lamp post looking at in a different way. I've put the image upside down =)

“Lady, just what the heck were you thinkin’ going out on a night like this?!?” The self-proclaimed Indestructible Man looked over his shoulder at the cowering woman. “Hey, I don’t blame ya for not answerin’. I’m sure whatever you have to say, it’d probably sound pretty dumb right about now anyway. You know what I’m saying?”

The woman just nodded absently and stared past the Indestructible Man at the advancing goons. Each one wore a hideous latex skull mask and wielded a wicked looking weapon. They laughed menacingly as they taunted their victims. Slowly the thugs closed in on the metro platform. The Indestructible man pushed the helpless woman behind him, and brandished his crowbar as they were backed up against the cool tiles of the metro station wall.

“I’m going to give you goons to the count of three to back off.” The Indestructible Man grinned beneath the bandana that covered his face. He was beginning to like this heroing gig. “one… two… thr…”

Before he could finish counting, a loud shot echoed through the dimly lit metro terminal surprising both the Indestructible Man and the skull goons. The knife being held by one of the goons mysteriously flew off into the darkness of the subway tunnel.

“Three!” proclaimed a female voice from the darkness. A young woman brandishing two pistols stepped out of the shadows and strode towards the pair on the platform winking at the Indestructible Man before regarding the goons. “The name’s Trickshot boys. Let’s say I help even the odds in this guy’s favor? If you want this lady, you‘ve got to come through both of us.”

“You heard the lady!” Shouted the lead goon into the shadows. Suddenly a dozen more thugs wearing skull masks stepped out of the darkness and emerged into the orange glow of the sodium lights.

“Evening the odds, ehh?” The Indestructible Man chuckled at the newcomer.

“Okay, okay. So I was never very good at math.” said Trixie as she braced for action.

Episode 2: The Long Night - Part 2

A lone rider flies down the silent deserted streets of New Brickton, his red cloak billowing behind him as his silent motorcycle stealthily races on toward his next destination.

“…The hour is, 1:15 AM. Here’s the latest news coming across the wire. New Brickton remains in a state of emergency after an explosion rocked the prison earlier today. Authorities advise that all residents stay in their homes with their doors and windows locked. Authorities also want to remind all residents to remain calm as they attempt to locate the escaped prisoners. Captain Electron, better known as billionaire genius William Watts, remains in critical condition at New Brickton General Hospital. He was severely wounded while attempting to aid authorities this afternoon at the prison. We can only hope for the speedy recovery of our beloved hero in our time of need. The weather is partly cloudy with a 60% chance of rain. It is currently 56 degrees. Stay safe New Brickton...”

The Crimson Cloak, listening intently to the news broadcast, just barely notices the shadowy form steeping out into the path of his speeding motorcycle. Acting on reflex alone, the Cloak skids the crimson cycle to a halt.

“Why don’t you watch where you’re going!?!” the angry young woman advances on the Cloak, two pistols clutched in her fists, “You could kill someone with that thing!!!”

“You could kill someone with those.” the Crimson Cloak motioned to the girl’s guns.

“Point taken,” holstering the guns she grins mischievously at the red-clad hero “I've actually been looking for you. As soon as I heard about the prison, I knew you‘d be on the streets.”

“Not tonight Trixie.” The Cloak turned back to his bike, getting ready to depart. “Do yourself a favor and go home. I've told you before, I work alone. I don‘t need a sidekick.”

“Don’t flatter yourself buddy. I might have wanted to be your sidekick when I was like twelve, but I’m over all that now.” Placing her hand nonchalantly upon the gas tank of the motorcycle. “I’m here to help. You and I both know you can’t handle this all on your own.”

“I’m not in the mood Trixie. Get out of my way, or I’ll run you over.”

“Geez! Can’t a girl at least try?” Trixie took a step back raising her hands in mock innocence, “You went to go see ‘her,’ didn't you? So, what did she say Cloak?”

“You already know what she said.” Revving the engine the Cloak quickly speeds away into the night.

“You started something Cloak, years ago, whether you want to admit it or not! There are more people like me out here. People who have been inspired by you!!!” Standing in the center of the street, Trixie continues to yell into the darkness at the motorcycle as it recedes into the shadows. “THE LEAGUE ISN’T DEAD!!!”

Not the best roller coaster (by a long stretch) but one with an pretty awesome view, not that you can enjoy the view that much whilst riding and simultaneously trying to prevent the ride from causing you too much pain.

Me running across the frame over this bridge. The vast snow-covered part in the foreground is actually the frozen Baltic Sea.

*** It's been a crazy few months since I've posted last. I've missed writing my League of Heroes stories, and I am proud to present this action-packed conclusion to "The Long Night". Please enjoy, and as always feedback and favorites are appreciated.

Well, here we are. As times and warfares change, so do the DM. After helping old allies and defeating old enemies, we took a swath of Greece for ourselves. We have moved in with new equipment, more men, all of the above. No one knows what the future holds, but we do know that we will be there to defend it.

For the Forces of Invasion group.
