The bridge was constructed in 1899 by the Pennsylvania and Maryland Bridge Construction Company, and opened in 1900. The components were made by the Pennsylvania Steel Company and were shipped from the United States.
It is the highest bridge in Myanmar and when it was completed, the largest railway trestle in the world. It is located approximately 100 km northeast of Mandalay.

A morning train ride from Budapest to Zagreb. Was greeted with this beautiful misty sunrise along countryside.
On the ride back from the Ft. Worth Stockyards - took several to get one that would work - did not even notice the older man in the upper left until I downloaded it.
Inside train between Rotterdam and Utrecht. For some reason they use SLT sprinter stop trains as intercity.
A photographer leans out for a good shot on the train to White Pass from Skagway, Alaska. Of course, I was doing exactly the same thing. Absolutely gorgeous scenery all along the way.

Gerd had talked me for years into joining him for a ride on the seasonal 'Rodelblitz' trains from Eisenach to Arnstadt and back by way of the Rennsteig summit at Oberhof.
Well, I made it at least once. Ten years ago on February 13, 2011. While the Mikado 41 1144 is hammering away in the grade a few kilometers from the start at Eisenach we hang at the open windows and take it all in.
And while Gerd is silently enjoying his umpteenth ride on the Rodelblitz I took his portrait. He is a veteran railroader starting out at the Deutsche Reichsbahn where I first met him in 1991 when he was red cap of the Freital-Potschappel station. He is still with the Deutsche Bahn. A funny guy and a good friend.
