Although Flight Lieutenant Jane S. Yates' Royal Air Force career also included a tour of duty to the Falkland Islands she was for a number of years involved in radar tracking against possible soviet attack on the British Isles during the Cold War era. She served with NATO's Ballistic Missile Early Warning System, station number three at RAF Fylingdales, Yorkshire (BMEWS 3) and also at RAF Buchan, a tracking station which kept a look out for soviet aircraft from north-east Scotland.

There are train tracks that run through Lakewood and into Cleveland right behind my apartment, and I have always loved shots with train tracks in them, so I imagine I will return here often!
I wanted to get a shot with light trails going both ways, so there was some trial and error involved, since it was hard to see the traffic coming from a few hundred feet away in the driving snow!
