"The Brabo Fountain (Brabofontein in Dutch) is a tribute to the mythical Roman soldier Silvius Brabo. According to legend, there was once a giant named Druon Antigoon who built a fortress along the Scheldt River. The giant forced passing boats to pay a toll, as well as anyone crossing the nearby bridge. If the travelers refused, Antigoon cut off one of their hands and tossed it into the river.
The giant’s reign of extortion came to an end when Silvius Brabo sailed down river. He refused to pay the giant’s toll, and challenged the giant to a duel. Brabo was victorious, and chopped off the giant’s head as well a hand, which he threw into the river."

Welcome to Castel of Val - Cantal - Auvergne - France - Europe
Le château de Val est un château fort du XIIIème siècle, remanié et restauré à plusieurs reprises, qui se dresse sur la commune de Lanobre dans le département du Cantal, dans le pays d'Artense, en région Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.
Au titre des monuments historiques, le château fait l’objet d’un classement par arrêté du 23 septembre 1946 ; la chapelle Saint-Blaise faisant partie des dépendances du château fait l'objet d'un classement par arrêté du 7 septembre 1961 ; les façades et toitures des communs, la fontaine, le sol de la parcelle sur laquelle ils sont situés font l'objet d'une inscription par arrêté du 10 septembre 1990.
Depuis 2016, le château de Val dispose d’une suite insolite. Les personnes qui souhaitent louer hébergement insolite peuvent prendre contact avec le Château de Val.
En 1960, une scène du film Le Capitan d'André Hunebelle avec Jean Marais et Bourvil a été tournée dans ce château. Pour le film il est nommé château de Clairefont et sert de prison où est enfermée Gisèle d'Angoulême. Il s'agit de la scène connue de l'escalade et du poignard qui se casse4.
En 1970, le château de Val est le château de la fée Morgane dans le film Morgane et ses nymphes de Bruno Gantillon.
En 1973, une scène de la série télévisée Karatekas and C° (Le club de l'eau plate), avec Jean Marais a été tournée dans ce château.
En 1984, des scènes du film Frankenstein 90 d'Alain Jessua avec Jean Rochefort et Eddy Mitchell ont été tournées autour du château.

La gare de Metz-Ville est située à proximité du centre-ville de Metz, en région Grand Est.
Construite durant la première annexion allemande de l'Alsace et de la Moselle (1871-1918), la gare est inaugurée en 1908 par la Direction générale impériale des chemins de fer d'Alsace-Lorraine ; elle remplace l'ancienne gare de Metz, mise en service en 1878. Enfin, l'hiver commence tout doucement à laisser place au printemps et la glace du lac devant la maison a laissée place à environ 75 pieds d'eau libre ce qui est ma saison favorite pour tenter ma chance avec les canards qui longent les rive à la recherche de leur pitance.
Les nuits et matins étant encore plutôt froids et sous le point de congélation -9 c il me faut plus souvent qu'autrement patienter en après-midi avant d'avoir la chance de voir des canards et ou autres dans cette bande d'eau libre. L'eau a beaucoup montée (1 mètre/3 pieds) ce qui complique souvent la tâche...
Hier, j'ai eu de la chance, un couple de Garrot à eye d'or est venu pêcher devant moi et en a même profité pour s'accoupler. C'est la première fois que j'ai la chance de faire quelques images Full Frame de ces magnifiques et si farouches canards.
Je vous présente donc la femelle dans un premier temps, le rouge qui est réfléchi dans l'eau est la toiture de tôle de la maison en face de chez moi sur l'autre rive.

The nights and mornings being still rather cold and below the freezing point -9 c, I have to wait more often than not in the afternoon before having the chance to see ducks and others in this strip of open water. . The water has risen a lot (1 meter / 3 feet) which often complicates the task...
Yesterday, I got lucky, a pair of Common Goldeneyes came fishing in front of me and even took the opportunity to mate. This is the first time I've had the chance to take some Full Frame images of these magnificent and fierce ducks.
I therefore present to you the female first, the red which is reflected in the water is the reed sheet metal roofing of the house opposite shore my house on the other side of the lake.

Dans notre région, il y avait beaucoup de mines de charbon , qui sont maintenant , fermées depuis longtemps , il reste ces usines d 'un autre temps à l 'état de ruines
je n 'ai pas pu entrer , il y a un cadenas à la porte , la toiture et les murs sont tellement vieux qu 'ils risquent de s 'écrouler à tous moments
Au XVIII ème siècle , ces mines étaient privées , les patrons ne payaient pas beaucoup les mineurs , en revanche , ils ne payaient pas de médecin ni de charbon
Malheureusement beaucoup d 'entr' eux étaient alcooliques et cette réputation a tendance à être ancrée encore maintenant
Nous , dans le nord de la France , avons tendance à passer pour des retardés et c'est regrettable

Selon le site Internet qui leur est consacré (cf. Liens externes), « Au Moyen Âge, les cabanes du Breuil étaient habitées par les Bénédictins de Sarlat ». La preuve en serait un acte de vente de « 1449, date de la plus vieille trace écrite affirmant leur existence ». Cependant ce document n'a jamais été publié et ses coordonnées comme sa teneur sont tenues sous le boisseau. De plus, Calpalmas n'est pas Le Breuil. Dans son livre, Les cabanes en pierre sèche du Périgord, paru en 2002 (cf. Bibliographie), François Poujardieu écrit que « Le Breuil était un des domaines des Bénédictins du Chapitre de l'Évêché de Sarlat, mais il est écrit nulle part qu'existaient les cabanes que nous voyons aujourd'hui ». Il ajoute : « La propriétaire affirmait, il y a vingt ans, que les cabanes auraient été construites ou entièrement remaniées par son grand-père, au début du xxe siècle ».
Toujours selon le site Internet, des artisans ruraux (un forgeron, un bourrelier et un tisserand) auraient loué certaines des cabanes pour y exercer leur activité mais aucun élément textuel n'est apporté qui corroborerait la chose. Dans la cabane qui aurait servi au forgeron, trône un gros soufflet devant un renfoncement de maçonnerie servant d'âtre. Une carte postale des années 1970 montre cette même cabane servant de bergerie : une dizaine de brebis en sort, sous la houlette des agriculteurs de l'époque.
Les cabanes ont fait l'objet, à diverses reprises (au tournant des années 1970 puis à celui des années 1990), d'importantes restaurations. Certaines modifications ont été apportées aux faîtages : les toitures indépendantes des cabanes du groupe 2 (cf, infra, Disposition des bâtiments) ont été reliées entre elles sur deux tiers de leur hauteur pour faire pendant à la ligne de faîtage ondulée du groupe 1 (cf, infra, Disposition des bâtiments); de même, le faîtage de la cabane contre le pignon du fournil, est passé d'une ligne en courbe et contrecourbe à une ligne horizontale bien droite, comme celle du faîtage du fourni.
C'est à la suite de la proposition d'un visiteur, frappé par la beauté et l'originalité de l'ensemble des cabanes, que celles-ci ont fait l'objet d'une mesure de protection. D'abord protégées au titre des sites à partir de 1968, elles devaient être classées monuments historiques le 10 mai 1995 (ainsi que les façades et toitures en lauses de la maison d'habitation et de son fournil), la grange étant pour sa part déjà inscrite depuis 1991.
Outre les cartes postales, le cinéma et la télévision ont popularisé les lieux : ils auraient en effet servi de décor (avant 1990) aux films La Belle au bois dormant, Jacquou le Croquant (de Stellio Lorenzi), D'Artagnan et Les Misérables (de Robert Hossein).

Depuis 1977, Marie et Claude, mes parents sont devenus « les bras forts » de ce petit coin de pierres. Ils en ont assuré la continuité intergénérationnelle.
Depuis les années 90, à mon tour, je me suis lancé dans cette aventure et ma passion pour ce lieu m’a poussé à relever de nouveaux défis afin de conserver ce patrimoine. (Recherches de technique de constructions en pierres sèche : encorbellements et voûtes).
Aujourd’hui, avec Carine, mon épouse et nos enfants Samuel et Mathias, nous multiplions nos efforts pour l’entretien et la rénovation de cabanes. Restaurations progressives de murs, Atelier de construction (2002), Exposition hommage à mes grands-parents (2014), Espace « Ailleurs dans le monde » (2019) … et bien d’autres choses !
En plus de cela, nous avons à cœur de continuer à travailler nos terres en mettant en œuvres la culture naturelle !

According to the website devoted to them (cf. External links), “In the Middle Ages, the Breuil huts were inhabited by the Benedictines of Sarlat”. The proof would be a deed of sale of "1449, date of the oldest written record affirming their existence". However, this document was never published and its coordinates as its content are kept under wraps. Moreover, Calpalmas is not Le Breuil. In his book, The dry stone huts of Périgord, published in 2002 (cf. Bibliography), François Poujardieu writes that "Le Breuil was one of the domains of the Benedictines of the Chapter of the Bishopric of Sarlat, but it is written nowhere that existed the huts that we see today”. He adds: "The owner claimed twenty years ago that the cabins were built or completely remodeled by her grandfather at the beginning of the 20th century."
Still according to the website, rural craftsmen (a blacksmith, a saddler and a weaver) would have rented some of the huts to exercise their activity there but no textual element is provided which would corroborate the thing. In the hut that would have been used by the blacksmith, there is a large bellows in front of a masonry recess serving as a hearth. A postcard from the 1970s shows this same hut serving as a sheepfold: a dozen sheep come out of it, under the leadership of the farmers of the time.
The cabins have been extensively restored on various occasions (at the turn of the 1970s and then at the turn of the 1990s). Some modifications have been made to the ridges: the independent roofs of the huts in group 2 (see below, Layout of the buildings) have been connected to each other over two thirds of their height to match the undulating ridge line of group 1 (see , infra, Layout of buildings); similarly, the ridge of the cabin against the gable of the bakery has changed from a curved and counter-curved line to a very straight horizontal line, like that of the ridge of the bakery.
It was following the proposal of a visitor, struck by the beauty and originality of all the huts, that they were the subject of a protective measure. First protected as sites from 1968, they were to be classified as historic monuments on May 10, 1995 (as well as the facades and slate roofs of the dwelling house and its bakery), the barn being for its part already registered since 1991.
In addition to postcards, cinema and television have popularized the place: they would indeed have served as a setting (before 1990) for the films Sleeping Beauty, Jacquou le Croquant (by Stellio Lorenzi), D'Artagnan and Les Misérables ( by Robert Hossein).

Since 1977, Marie and Claude, my parents, have become "the strong arms" of this little corner of stones. They ensured its intergenerational continuity.

Hamritsar (Inde) - Haut lieu de dévotion pour les Shiks, le Harmandir Sahib, « l’Illustre temple de Dieu », est plus connu sous le nom de « Temple d'Or ». Il est situé au coeur de la ville d'Amritsar dans l'Etat du Punjâb, au nord-ouest de l'Inde, à quelques kilomètres de la frontière pakistanaise.
Construit en 1601 par Gurû Arjan, le cinquième maître spirituel du sikhisme, le temple est localisé au centre d'un bassin sacré, « l' Amrit Sarovar », qui signifie « Bassin au Nectar » et donne son nom à la ville. Les pèlerins y accèdent en empruntant un pont. Le surnom de « Golden Temple » (Temple d'Or) a été donné par les anglais, en raison de la fine pellicule d'or dont la toiture en forme de dôme, a été recouverte au XIXème siècle. Les façades sont couvertes de cuivre. Quant aux fondations, elles sont en marbre.
Comme à mon habitude, je suis resté plusieurs jours à Amritsar pour tenter de m’imprégner du lieu et de me fondre dans le décor. Aucune difficulté pour photographier. Au contraire ; sollicité en permanence par les pèlerins, j’ai passé plus de temps à faire des portraits posés qu’à photographier pour moi. Cependant, la réalisation de ce reportage reste un excellent souvenir.
"Harmandir Sahib", the Mecca of the Shiks
Hamritsar (India) - High place of devotion for the Shiks, the Harmandir Sahib, "the Illustrious Temple of God", is better known as the "Golden Temple". It is located in the heart of the city of Amritsar in the state of Punjab, in northwestern India, a few kilometers from the Pakistani border.
Built in 1601 by Gurû Arjan, the fifth spiritual master of Sikhism, the temple is located in the center of a sacred pool, “Amrit Sarovar”, which gives its name to the city and means “Nectar Pool”. Pilgrims reach it by crossing a bridge. The nickname "Golden Temple" was given by the English, because of the thin film of gold with which the domed roof was covered in the 19th century. As usual, I stayed several days in Amritsar to try to soak up the place and blend into the scenery. No difficulty in photographing. On the contrary, constantly solicited by pilgrims, I spent more time making posed portraits than photographing for myself.

Cette espèce utilise des supports artificiels (toiture…) pour construire son nid,
elles ne butinent pas mais chassent activement larves, chenilles, mouches
elle est très sociale.
Elles ont une préférence innée pour placer leurs nids dans les bâtiments. Relativement
pacifiques, elles n'attaquent l'homme que si elles doivent défendre leur nid.
De par sa prédation sur les chenilles, elle peut être un auxiliaire naturel intéressant
si les populations sont suffisamment bien implantées pour prospecter de manière efficace sur les cultures.
