Found at Montagu Mountain Reserve, just north of Montagu. Western Cape, South Africa.

This is the biggest tick I've ever seen. It was crawling on the trail toward me as I was photographing something else. Don't know what the host could be. There were no large mammals other than human hikers in the area that I could see. The only other mammals I saw were what were possibly rock hyraxes.

Single exposure, uncropped, handheld, in situ. Canon MT-24EX flash unit, Ian McConnachie diffuser.

Waiting for the green flag on the St Pete waterfront.

Cheeky sketcheroooooo, been off the graff lately so hopefully a step in the right direction!

As the clock ticks away from 2013 to welcome 2014 , once again the rain try to taunt my plan for a photography trip again...I manage to rush to my usual spot only to find the bushes had grew so tall that it had blocked my composition of the CBD lanscape. I had no choice but to explore and get over the bushes and closer to the water. Luckily for me , this trip went well and i hope throughout 2014 , I will be as lucky as today.

About Marina Bay Sands

Marina Bay Sands (traditional Chinese: 濱海灣金沙; simplified Chinese: 滨海湾金沙) is an integrated resort fronting Marina Bay in Singapore. Developed by Las Vegas Sands, it is billed as the world's most expensive standalone casino property at S$8 billion, including cost of the prime land.[1][2]

With the casino complete, the resort features a 2,561-room hotel, a 1,300,000-square-foot (120,000 m2) convention-exhibition centre, the 800,000-square-foot (74,000 m2) The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands mall, an iconic ArtScience museum, two large theatres, seven "celebrity chef" restaurants, two floating Crystal Pavilions, an ice skating rink, and the world's largest atrium casino with 500 tables and 1,600 slot machines. The complex is topped by a 340m-long SkyPark with a capacity of 3,900 people and a 150m infinity swimming pool, set on top of the world's largest public cantilevered platform, which overhangs the north tower by 67m.[3][4] The 20-hectare resort was designed by Moshe Safdie Architects. The local architect of record was Aedas Singapore, and engineering was provided by Arup and Parsons Brinkerhoff (MEP). The main contractor was Ssangyong Engineering and Construction.[5]

Originally set to open in 2009, Las Vegas Sands faced delays caused by escalating costs of material and labour shortages from the onset. The severe global financial crisis also pressured the company to delay its projects elsewhere to complete the integrated resort.[6] Although Marina Bay Sands has been compared on scale and development costs to MGM's CityCenter, the latter is a mixed-use development, with condominium properties (comprising three of the seven main structures) being sold off.[7][8]

The resort was officially opened with a two-day celebration on 23 June 2010 at 3.18 pm, after a partial opening (which included the casino) on 27 April 2010.[9] The SkyPark opened a day later on 24 June 2010. The theatres were completed in time for the first performance by Riverdance on 30 November 2010. The floating pavilions are still being built and are expected to be fully completed by 2011. The indoor skating rink, which uses artificial ice, opened to a performance by Michelle Kwan on 18 December 2010. The ArtScience Museum opened to the public and the debut of a 13-minute light, laser and water spectacle called Wonder Full on 19 February 2011 marked the full completion of the entire Integrated Resort.

The grand opening of Marina Bay Sands was held on 17 February 2011. It also marked the opening of the seven celebrity chef restaurants. The highly-anticipated Broadway musical The Lion King debuted on 3 March 2011.[10] The last portion of the Marina Bay Sands, the floating pavilions, were finally opened to the public when the two tenants (Louis Vuitton and Pangaea Club) opened on 18 September 2011 and 22 September 2011 respectively.

About Garden by the Bay

Gardens by the Bay consists of three distinctive waterfront gardens – Bay South, Bay East and Bay Central, spanning a total of 101 hectares. They are set in the heart of Singapore’s new downtown Marina Bay, encircling the Marina Reservoir like a green necklace. The Gardens will complement the array of attractions around Marina Bay.

Gardens by the Bay is an integral part of a strategy by the Singapore government that further transforms Singapore from a ‘Garden City’ to a ‘City in a Garden’, in which the city is woven into a green and floral tapestry. This aims to raise the quality of life in Singapore with a more holistic and all-encompassing programme that enhances greenery and flora in the city. First announced to the public by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong during the National Day Rally in August 2005, Gardens by the Bay will become Singapore’s premier urban outdoor recreation space, and a national icon.

An international competition for the design of the master plan was held in January 2006 to elicit the best designs for the Gardens. This attracted more than 70 entries submitted by 170 firms from 24 countries, from which two firms – Grant Associates and Gustafson Porter – were eventually awarded the master plan design for the Bay South and Bay East Gardens respectively.

The Gardens are being developed in phases. Bay South is currently being constructed and is slated to be completed by June 2012. Bay East has been developed as an interim park in support of the Youth Olympic Games 2010, and is scheduled to open to the public in late 2011 or early 2012. The full master plan implementation of Bay East and the development of Bay Central are part of the next phase of development.

Waxwing at Marple, Stockport. Thanks to Pete at Stockport Birdwatching Society who told us at a meeting the night before that about 14 had been seen the previous 3 mornings. We decided to try and find them and succeeded at about 10am. I counted at least 24 birds and by 10.10 they had all flown. A very fortuitous series of events.

In a field of ticks, or little did I realise at the time. Until I discovered this little mite had eaten away at me leg. note to self, gators required! Ended up in a bit of rush as the hole of light illuminated the distant mountains, soon after the shaft moved on.

As the clock ticks the day from Friday to Saturday, I'm sending out my wishes for this annual holiday of those who love Star Wars: May the 4th be with you!

The first thing to notice about Blanca is that every part of her body is covered in spots! This pattern is actually called ticking and is completely different from the spots on a Dalmatian which are sparse, round and clearly defined.

Dogs with heavy ticking like Blanca are generally born white and gradually develop the spots. This likely is the reason that someone named her Blanca (Spanish for white). Unfortunately, I never saw her as a puppy. She must've been so cute! She was 8 months old when I adopted her and had her spots already.

For a couple of years now, I've been aware of the Flickr group called "52 Weeks for Dogs" and have admired the spirit, humor and some excellent photography in that group. Now I want to do my own 52-week project of Blanca. Every Sunday I will post a picture of her taken during the week before.

Since I take pictures of her all the time anyway, you might wonder what the point is. For me, the point is wanting to go a little deeper and get a little more creative in capturing the essence of Blanca - and there's nothing like a "project" to make that happen!! :)

from my last trip

Just a little fun on a hike at the Robert Woodruff Nature Center in Van Hornsville. (Not the name of this falls!)

We were visiting friends Ed Smathers and Jess Painter and they were kind enough to take us on a hike down this unique nature trail. A little research shows this may be Sawmill Falls.

How could I possibly resist this AMAZING pack of Bratz dolls? Seriously, they tick off all the boxes that make Bratz fabulous. Furry coats that look like dead Muppets? Check! Insanely gorgeous and glitzy faces? Check! Versatile fashions with impeccable details and quality? Check! Amazing hair styles? Check! Extra accessories? Check! I could go on for days. I became obsessed with Roxxi and Nevra the moment I first laid eyes on promo pictures. Normally, I don't pay much mind to things until they come out. But I eagerly anticipated the release of the Jimmy Paul dolls. I was especially excited because MGA brought back two of my favorite characters: Roxxi and Nevra. I had Nevra growing up...well, I actually had two of her. As for Roxxi, I always wanted her when I was younger, and she was one of the first dolls I tracked down as an adult. The two of them together as a couple?!!! Talk about the best idea ever!!! I have grown very fond of these Bratz collaborations with designers. There was the Hayden Williams collab of 2018...amazing! There was the 2022 collab with GCDS...super unique! And of course there is the Jimmy Paul collab of 2022 as well...perhaps the best one yet! I love the cheerful colors, innovative yet very Bratz like designs, and the throwback to two old, beloved characters. These dolls are even more spectacular in person...my photos do them no justice. I'm grateful I was able to get them so soon after their initial release. Thanks to a markdown, a Target Circle offer, and Target Circle points I had to redeem, I saved around $20 on these gems. I admit, I would have been willing to fork over the full hog if it had come to that. These doll were worth every penny and then some. I wish I could capture my love and obsession with this set in writing, but they are too incredible to describe. Colleen had a blast setting up these photos for me to take--I think these coloring book pages I filled in years ago were the perfect choice!

hey there, remember mee?? probably not, i have been a terrible contact the last week, got some seeerious catching up to do.

nghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. i have such a split personality, its freakish. one minute i am able to embrace my life, love it, cope. and the next minute i am petrified. i question existence, truth, purpose. i feel lost. i know everyone has mood swings, but these are different to the ones i used to have, they aren't what i would call normal. i sit, knees to my chin, and i rock, eyes unfocused, caught up within myself. i feel detatched from me, as in the me i want to be, the me i hope people percieve me to be. even though i wish even that me was different. i dont understand why i wake up the same person every day. i want to escape the constraints and create my own. sometimes, it takes an hour or so to become aware of it, this alter-mindset. one minute i am aware of my thoughts, the next i am consumed by an overriding feeling i am unable to define. other times, i feel myself slipping. usually i am alone, but sometimes it starts when in company. i try to stop it. i want this to stop. it is consuming me and defining me, and i dont like what i fear i am becoming. i think i am insane. but who isn't?

That's a single shot from today morning.

I wish i had find a more addressable bug , but this was not the case today.
