And that temperature was waaaay out of line. It was May...in Toronto, not the Rio Grande valley.

p.s. That didn't include the humidex that day which jacked the temp to about 43 degrees Celsius or 109 degrees Fahrenheit.

So I built this little RGB Ambient Thermometer, and yes I am well aware my own ass works perfectly well for telling me if it's hot or cold or just right. I don't care, I made it anyway.

It was ~75F in the apartment, hence blue.

Today was the first day back to school after spring break, and I got a fever about half way through the day. By the end of the day I felt horrible so I really didn't feel like taking a photo. I ended up taking Hunter's idea but was too lazy to even draw a face.

Just imagine that there is a face on my hand haha.

It really wasn't -45°C (-49°F) outside that day. Usually the thermometer is not displaying anything, but one day it started displaying a rapidly reducing number. It reached -45°C before it went blank again.

don't see this often. thermometer at 43 degrees C. Toronto. after 6pm!

A cool old Bubble Up Soda thermometer amongst lots of other cool things at Simonian Farms in Fresno. Simonian Farms has a very cool collection of great old stuff on display, including some fantastic old bicycles and pedal cars.

Found this enamel sign thermometer on old Farm. I liked the message and wear to sign.

The run off channels of Whirligig Geyser are a living thermometer. Thermophiles living use iron for energy from Whirligig's iron rich water and become coated with rust. These chemical users are called "chemotrophs." Temperatures in this rust colored channel are 122-140 degrees Fahrenheit (50-60 degrees Celsius).

Thermophilic algae inhabit the green channel. Like other plants, these algae use green chlorophyll to photosynthesis. The temperature in the green channel is 100-133 degrees Fahrenheit (38-56 degrees Celsius).

Info from the the interpretive sign at this spot

Whirligig Geyser is in the Porcelain Basin of the Norris Geyser Basin in Yellowstone National Park.

I really like these. I use these thermometer/hygrometers for my plants and around the house. This one is in the kitch by the window. I use these mostly for my nepenthes

The heatwave continues here, with yet another day over 40C, which you can see if you look closely at the large version of this photo.

For ODC-Unusual

It is interesting to watch this unusual thermometer in action. The colourful little bottles inside the larger bottle move up and down in the liquid depending on the air temperature. Today it's cooler than it has been so the bottles are disbursed in the top and bottom of the bottle. Here is a link about this different thermometer: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galileo_thermometer

Thanks for any comments/faves you care to leave me, I do enjoy them all.

This reads your temperature through your ear. It takes a second to get it. Sure beats some of the other ways of taking one's temperature.

I originally called this a snow cricket, but apparently have the wrong name. It's probably a bit late for trying to change it now, but what the heck...

Two thermometers per enclosure allows you to better monitor the thermal gradient between the cool and heated ends.

This is an old thermometer that Deb has had since she was a child.

You notice the price on the back of 1.50

You can't find any newer ones to day for a dollar fifty.
