李小龍、校際西洋拳比賽和英皇佐治五世學校 1958
Bruce Lee, Boxing Tournament and KGV
It is 1956 and Bruce Lee is enrolled in St. Francis Xavier’s College (High School). Bruce Lee continues to get in trouble getting into fights in the streets and in the school.
By 1958, at the age of seventeen, Bruce Lee is asked by Brother Edwards to join the school’s Boxing Team. Brother Edwards feels that he can channel that fighting spirit and energy of young Bruce Lee in a positive way. Every year a bout is held with twelve schools and the winning school for the last three years has been the King George V School. The Boxing Champion of all the schools, Gary Elms of the King George V School, has not been beaten by anyone and has remained the champion for the last three years. Bruce Lee accepts Brother Edwards’ offer and joins the Boxing Team of St. Francis Xavier.
It was March 29, 1958 and the time had arrived for the Boxing Tournament to take place. All twelve High Schools attended the match. Bruce Lee fought three preliminary bouts with three different opponents. He was able to knock them all out in the first round.
He was paired against the British boy, Gary Elms, who had been the defending Boxing Champion for three straight years.
In the first round, Elms attacked vigorously forward and pressured young Bruce Lee to the corners of the ring.
By the second round, Bruce was able to use some of the Wing Chun blocks against Elms’ punches. This time, Bruce Lee did not run back to the corners from Elms’ attacks.
In the third round, Bruce blocked and hit and parried and hit anytime Gary Elm threw punches at him. Finally, he jumped in on Elms and Straight Blasted his way through, knocking out the Champ in the Third Round.

This is the small hamlet of Neffe, which is about five minutes by car east of Bastogne, just a few Kms past the Mardisson Memorial.
Neffe is the spot where Lt. Colonel Henry Cherry was deployed with "Team Cherry" one of the combat teams of the 10th Armored Combat command B.
Cherry deployed some of his units here in Neffe, several kilometers west of Team O'Hara in the town of Longvilly.
A couple of really interesting things (at least to me).
First of all, the German commander, Bayerlain, was heading straight for Neffe, when a Belgian civilian lied to him and told him that there was a massive American armored presence in that area. In fact, the area was so overwhelmed with the remnants of the 28th infantry division (and other units) going towards Bastogne, that Cherry couldn't get all of his units into place, and even then, it wasn't the force the Belgian described. Bayerlain was spooked by this and instead of nailing Neffe and being close to Bastogne, he cut northeast towards the town of Magaret. Unfortunately for the Americans in that area, they received the full brunt of a panzer attack, smashing them there and along the road into Longvilly.
Second, this area was reinforced on the 19th by Colonel Julian Ewell, commanding officer of the 501st PIR. (remember Easy was in the 506th). Now, the 501st took a dig in the miniseries Band of Brothers, but let me tell you about them.
Ewell was a hard-charger. By an amazing coincidence, earlier in 1944, he took a leave and spent a few days of vacation in this EXACT spot. His knowledge would be critical.
General McAuliffe in Bastogne knew that there was chaos to the east and that the Germans were coming up hard. He sent Ewell and the 501st into the fray with orders to: "Move out along this road to the east, make contact with the enemy, attack and clear up the situation."
Ewell moved out in the fog and got as far as here in Neffe before he and the members of Team Cherry were hit by Bayerlain's Panzer Lehr.
What Ewell did was turn one battalion, the 2nd, north towards Bizory (and up towards Easy Company and the 506th), and his 3rd Battalion south towards the village of Mont. This meant that he had his battalion abreast, from north to south, with the 2nd in Bizory (up to the railroad tracks), 1st in Neffe and 3rd in the Mont area. If you look on a map, you'll see what it was like.
Ewell's decisiveness and knowledge of the area may have saved the day. He deployed logically with a clear formation abreast. The German general was expected light resistance and when he ran into this line, he got cautious.
The Germans attacked repeatedly in force on December 19th and the battle was pitched. There is a famous picture of Neffe that I have but need to scan, showing a German halftrack with a big red cross knocked out at this church, with a snow-covered Sherman tank adjacent to it. There was also a German tank knocked out nearby but I don't have a picture of that.
My car, the black station wagon, is exactly where the Sherman tank was

Fire Damages Elkton Apartments
Photo and story by Bill Hughes
During Monday afternoon's lunch hour, smoke from above a busy Brothers Pizza in Elkton began flowing out of an upstairs apartment at 122 West Main Street, followed by flames that brought out nine fire companies to the rescue. It took 50 firefighters who responded, 90 minutes to get the fire under control that damaged six units there and one unit at 120 B West Main Street owned by Rajeshchandra Patel, according to the Maryland State Fire Marshall's office and responding state fire marshall DSFM (Division of State Fire Marshall) Derek Chapman. Estimated loss to the structure was $100,00 and contents at $50,000. Smoke alarms were working and there have been no arrests.
Fire companies from Elkton, Chesapeake City, Rising Sun, Charlestown, North East, Perryville, Port Deposit, Havre de Grace (Hardford County) and Newark, Delaware, all responded and had everything under control.
Aetna Hose, Hook and Ladder Company from Newark, had to enter downtown Elkton going the wrong way down East Main Street to enable them to run their ladder up to the roof. Firefighter Andrew Cavanaugh, (top of ladder in photo) followed by firefighter Chris Abbott, both from Aetna, reached the roof and checked for further flames.
The fire had many roads in gridlock. With Delaware Avenue closed for repairs, it just led to even more traffic jams in town.
As some people sat inside Brothers Pizza eating lunch and Team Brothers were busy with a lot of take out orders, the staff noticed the smell of smoke..
"We smelled the fire burning in apartment 6," said Mario Testa, owner of Brothers Pizza. "We went outside and saw the smoke and fire. It started shooting out at 12:15. We had a few people in there (restaurant).
The restaurant remained closed Monday and Tuesday, with smoke damage.
"We have a little damage in the bathroom walls, ceiling and floors," Mario added. "The smoke damage is the worst. A lot of cleaning to do," he said Tuesday morning as Union Hospital employees came by not knowing of the closing.
The Singerly Ladies Auxilary helped by bringing plenty to drink for the firefighters as temperatures soared. They brought ice water, lemonade, ice tea and cookies.
"They always want something cold to drink," said Wanda Marquess (in other photo serving up ice tea to a Singerly firefighter). "Usually they want lunch. It's a little late for lunch."
The ladies in the auxiliary did the best they could to get to the station after not being able to come down Delaware Avenue, but they were ready when they were needed.
"We just get there and get it done," Wanda added.
Brothers Pizza was back in business, opening for lunch yesterday at 11am.
"Everything is working. We had to throw away all the food. The guys came in and cleaned up and deodorized the whole place," said Mario on Wednesday morning. "We want to apologize for the two days we were closed. We were here 7:30 this morning getting everything ready to go."
Some of the local businesses on West Main Street, recognized the hard work the firefighters did, one saying "Thank God I was lucky. I had a guardian angel watching over me."
Red Cross is assisting the families who are now homeless, but one tenant on Wednesday morning who didn't want to be identified, said "I have to find someplace to stay."
Cause of the fire is still under investigation. Anyone with information about this fire is asked to call the Elkon Police or the State Fire Marshall at 410-996-2794.

so alright day i guess, i woke up at 7:40 so i was rushing and i hate rushing so i was in a pissy mood til i got home. i got into it with morley cuz i didn't want to c his stupid flyers logo on the computer. he said that i was unprofessional and i just told him i had a bad morning and i apologize for taking it out on him so he would leave me alone. chem was cool cuz we got to sit in groups it was me,em,adam and dj. so for my eco project i picked Hot Topic, Google, Apple, Johnson & Johnson and Target as my stocks to look at. Computers was cool we had more bonding group discussions today even mr. errington got involved lol but i think simone got a little mad at me cuz i told her i was sick of her copying my labs and she should try to do it herself but after a little while she was fine with me again so idk lol. Lunch sucked cuz i heard a rumor that tino and lynz fucked ewwww so i was upset like the rest of the school especially math cuz i had to c them together. after that came home watched greys took a 3 hour nap lol and went to eddie games at NU game was an ok game but the refs were kinda crappy and the other teams parents were so rude and ignorant my mom almost got into it with one of the other dads lol we ended up tieing 2-2 (but technically we should have won because they stopped the time clock and when they scored we should have been off the ice but w/e) and i realized that ryan miller's (not the real ryan miller lol this kid on eddies team) brother is kinda cute i've never seen him before but he seems cool too bad the season is basically over.
so pic today is in lab as promised with my lab partner jimmy. i didn't take it with the bolt cuz i didn't want to get too close lol. but yesterday pat was in the paper and they were joking with me saying i was gonna frame it in my room so jimmy actually found yesterdays paper and said he was gonna laminate the pic for me at work lol and then he goes u can take a picture with it for ur 365 and say thats the closest you'll ever get to him i was like u ass and i smacked him lol
