In an interesting example of synchronicity, this was the first photo I saw after discussing reflections in the Photo Critique group. The subject was how the water can affect the color and luminance of the reflection, and here we see another example of that.
The sky's reflection is all in disturbed water, but the trees are not, and yet they are much deeper green in the reflection.
This was shot while traveling up one of the 'arms' of one of the bays in Alaska. I don't remember which one, but this is pretty typical. You can see how steep the slope is, and that steepness is what defines a fjord, and what allows the enormous boat to cruise that close to shore. You could probably have hit one of the trees with a rock. Or a beer bottle, which is probably why they felt the need for the 'Do not throw anything overboard' sticker on the wall.

Smoke Photo Art.
I have had this concept stewing around my head for a while. In fact I had taken a stab at this one with the smoke that ended up being the Mad Scientist. I revisited it this past week and found a smoke photo that I liked with it. But don't be surprised if I rework it again at some point. This one is best viewed large.
Thanks to those who commented on my last one....and especially those of you who have consistently noticed my work.

Ling -I just love the textures , colours and the overall synchronicity of this piece with its setting! By local artist Ekto in honour of his girlfriend, so I was reliably informed on this joint explore in Suffolk.

I like... the synchronicity of the birds against the blue water.
I don't like... That they are just behind the wall of ice that has built up on the shores of Lake Ontario... and that I didn't have the 600mm lens attached.,. so this is a cropped section from the 300mm shot.

While I was writing my last post, I came across the following poem filed away long ago and this photo taken a few days ago and realized that both together could be the perfect epilogue for my previous words:
" He who knows his soul knows this truth:
I am beyond everything finite; I now see that the Spirit, alone in a space with Its ever-new joy, has expressed Itself as the vast body of nature.
I am the stars,
I am the waves,
I am the Life of all,
I am the laughter within all hearts,
I am the smile on the faces of the flowers and in each soul.
I am the Wisdom and Power that sustain all creation. "

Aberdeen Highland Games.
Despite the weather (cold + wind + rain = typical Scottish summer), it turned out to be
lots of fun.
I am not sure which dance this was, I am guessing Highland Fling... I must admit at the same time I was eyeing handsome men throwing hammers and heavy stones on the other field, so don't quote me on that one.
That's what I call it. Pay attention to the dogs here, look at their paws and how
almost perfectly matched they are. This is something that can't be taught, they
figure it out for themselves and it allows them to work together and maximize
their efficiency. That... and it's a thing of beauty to watch.
Since our temps warmed we've been getting in some good runs.
noun: synchronicity
the simultaneous occurrence of events which appear significantly related but have no discernible causal connection.
Class 221 Super-Voyager No. 221138 is about to cross Westmead Rhyne in North Somerset with 1V59, the 17:12 Bristol Temple Meads to Paignton service on Tuesday 2nd March 2021.
There is no trickery here at all; this is exactly what happened. Having arrived at this spot just too late to photograph 1E63, unusually a Voyager that day, I waited a bit longer so as not to go home empty-handed. With the camera raised to my eye and poised for the shot I became conscious of a runner approaching rapidly away to my right. The appearance of the train coincided with the passing of the runner. I pressed the button and fired off three frames, and this is how the first one turned out.
Synchronicity I is a track from the 1983 album Synchronicity by The Police, and is a great favourite of mine. In the live performance I've linked to, check out the phenomenal work rate of drummer Stewart Copeland. Fantastic stuff.
This is quite a spectacle as thousands of swifts swarm and move in synchronicity as they come back to roost in this grade school chimney from a day of foraging elsewhere. It is quite a show, best viewed in person or by video. This occurs in September.

It was one of those odd days where one thought leads to another, and then a series of "connecting the dots" that comes full circle, ending up with one of those synchronicities that leaves you wondering what you are supposed to make of it all.
Many years ago, I lived on the opposite side of Long Valley and one of the next towns had a small antique show in their firehouse, as a benefit for the fire department. It ran for three nights and each night, you could buy and eat dinner under a tent. Many of the townspeople worked at making and serving the dinner, all home made food, ending with your choice of desserts.... most of them with peaches. It was served family style. One year I met a friend of mine and his wife there for dinner. I just got an email from my friend's son, telling me about the date for the Drew University alumni baseball game in which his father, my friend, now at the age of 81, will still be playing . How awesome is he?!! Anyway... that led me to thinking about meeting him for dinner at the antique show (he and his wife were also antique dealers, which is how we became friends in the first place) and wondering when it was this year. It was usually in August, I thought.
Another conversation at work involved discussing wedding gifts because one woman needs to buy one and I remembered giving my neighbors, when I lived on the opposite side of Long Valley, an assortment of handmade and antique Christmas ornaments, including a "First Christmas" dated ornament when they got married ... and mentioning that one of my favorite gifts I ever received was from this same couple... stoneware soup bowls, and homemade soup.... and more homemade soup on an "installment plan"... I never knew when it was coming... I would just look out the window one day and she would be crossing the yard with a pot of delicious soup. A totally awesome gift (especially because I really don't like to cook!) They moved a couple of times, I also moved, and we lost touch over the years, but often things will remind me of them, and I wish we hadn't lost touch.
Today a man came into work to buy a gun. When I checked his paperwork, I noticed that he lives in the town where the antique show is held. He owns a general store and catering service there. I asked about the antique show at the fire house and he told me that not only is he a volunteer fireman there, he is also cooking the dinner there on Friday night. He told me that Thursday night will be ham, Friday night will be roast beef and Saturday night will be Turkey. What were the chances?!!
So, after he left, I looked up the antique show online to see what time it would be running and what time dinner would be served, because I'm thinking about going. I also noticed that now they have entertainment during the dinner hours. There is different entertainment by local artists each night. And on Saturday night.... the music will be supplied by.... yup, the guy that used to live next door to me! I don't remember him being a musician when he was my neighbor, but he is now.... and in addition to being a musician ... he is also a writer, a ghost hunter, and gives talks about local ghosts! (and now I'm really wishing that he was still my next door neighbor... homemade soup and ghost stories.... try to beat that!!) So now I'm wondering... do I go to the antique show for the caterer's roast beef dinner.... or do I go on Saturday night to see my old next door neighbor?!! And I pretty much spent the rest of my work day marvelling at how all these little things fit together... and wondering why (because I always believe that there is a reason for these things... it's just way too much of a coincidence!!) .... Synchronicities!! Love them!!
And yes, as usual ... all of these thoughts have nothing to do with my photo. I had to stop and check on the baby black vultures. They are fine. Today they weren't hissing and they didn't seem to smell as bad. Momma vulture was there, but she flew out the window when she saw me (some Mom she is!!) Anyway, this is the farm where they live. (Did you stay with me til the end of the story? hahaha!!!)

Met up with Steve and Adam on the Sunshine Coast for some more empty skies ( well nearly). So I thought I'd make the most of the sunlight on these magnificent sandstone rocks, coupled with some rather large seas. This shot is pretty busy I know, and probably not an ideal comp but the rock just to my left was the only thing stopping me from getting an early shower. You really have to keep an eye on the ocean, as we can get caught up in getting that shot, and forget about the dangers. I was elevated a metre or more on this shelf and still had to pull out of several shots and take cover!!

And in a little bit of synchronicity here is a picture of a Hutchison AEC relience depicted on Andrew's trip a little while later in the yard of Garelochhead awaiting entry into service. Although prepared and painted I don't think YVA148J made it into service before Garelochhead was forced to close. Here it is in the yard at Garelochhead. YVA148J was a 6MU4R with Plaxton Derwent B55F bodywork. This trip was blessed by sunshine.
