A 70-es évek közepén a svájci óraipar a japán dömping hatására a legnagyobb krízis közepén állt.
The same year that I saw that Rolling Stone cover (1985), I got my first seriously impractical watch - the Swatch Techno-Sphere. It wasn't just the fact that it had no numbers, the hands were irregular, and the transparent body gave you a distractingly fascinating view of the gears inside. It was also a large, guy's size watch that was too big to fit on my tiny 14-year-old wrist. So I wore it on my ankle. Yes, I could only read it when I was sitting down, with my foot crossed over the opposite knee. But it was really the only place it would fit.
(This is another image I uploaded that I didn't take).
In 1986, I bought this watch at Smith's Food King for $30. I was so excited! My friend had a Swatch and I wanted one SO bad, but they were $55. When I saw this one at the grocery store, I jumped at the chance to buy it.

The good folks at the the Dehner Company, makers of fine, custom leather boots and shoes, sent me an envelope of leather samples today. Each swatch is die-cut in the shape of a riding boot. Nice touch!
The Dehner Company was chosen by Gen. George S. Patton in 1937 to design and manufacture the boots for his Tank Corps.
In 1959 & 60, Dehner boots were tested for possible use in NASA's Mercury program, for the first US manned space flights. Dehner boots then became standard issue for astronauts to use in training and on missions until the Challenger disaster, after which NASA switched to pressurized flight suits with integrated boots. NASA continues to order Dehner footwear for use on Earth.
Used in outer space? Sign me up.
Apparently they make decent boots for riding horses as well.
i have 2 huge baskets of swatches, just from the last 8 months. i love swatching now. i'm thinking about creative ways to frame bunches of my favorites together for my yarn room.
I've been trying out different needle sizes and stitch patterns in preparation for knitting my youngest granddaughter a cardigan type sweater. I'll knit it big so that it will fit for back-to-school in September. I have to start early since the older granddaughter will want one too.

This vest takes a lot of swatching! This is the final combination of cables and separators.
From left:
-Banjo Cable (!!!!) from one of the Barbara Walker stitch libraries
-EZ's Sheepfold
-Fishbone Cable
The latter two are straight out of the pattern (they're just too fantastic not to include) and the first was discovered while poking through all my stitch libraries and made me gasp. I mean, it's a banjo cable, which is the most perfect thing ever for a garment for Mr. HelloYarn in the history of EVER.
Cables are separated by P1, K1TBL, P1, K1TBL, P1.
This was my second crocheted steek (the first was the night before in another swatch) and boy, howdy, is that the best, tidiest, prettiest method of securing a steek or what? I'm a total, slavish convert. Meg, you rule.

unearthed a whole bunch of pieces to put together some more swatch bundles! madewithlovebyhannah.com/WordPress/?p=141
I found my collection of swatches in my moms attic this Christmas. The bands were in pretty bad shape and the kanji has some cracked plastic on the side but the rest are ok. I love these watches!
Como em todos meus swatches, sempre forço as cores para que possam ser vistas como são. Claro que esfumadas ficam bem mais claras.
E, como sempre, ampliando dá para ver melhor.

I shot in DX mode which crops away the extra pixels and takes me 1.5X closer while allowing for up to 7 FPS with the Nikon D810's Nikon MB-D12 Battery Grip using the 8 AA battery option! 8 Duracels took me through around 3,000 shots no problem--maybe more! I was shooting at the equivalent of 900mm with the 1.5x crop factor! Pretty close! Had I gone with the Nikon D4s, I would have gotten 12 fps, but no DX crop factor, as the sensor has only around 14mp, compared to the d810's 36 megapixels! Sure the larger pixel size on the Nikon D4s full frame sensor comes in handy indoors or at night, but in the bright sun, there's more than enough light for the smaller pixels in crop mode! Sure we lose some pixels from the outer edges when shooting in DX crop mode, but most of those pixels would be cropped away in lightroom anyway. And the smaller files make the memory cards last longer, while also upping the FPS to 7 shots per second! Not quite 12 FPS, but still awesome and enough I felt!
