Today as I was sending off some pumpkin cookies to a friend; I picked up some APO/FPO boxes figuring in the next few weeks we would send some out to my BIGG Brother, some of his military brothers, and eventually to my fly boy who will be going over (again) sooner then I like to admit.
When my kiddos saw the boxes in the trunk they asked if we could go to the bank and get money out so we could buy some things. The money in the bank account is money they have earned from collecting cans, doing odd jobs for neighbors & family, and half of thier birthday money. They have been saving up for a couple of years for a trampoline. Apparently they thought this was more worthy of thier money.
While at the store we picked up trail mixx, jerky, powdered gatorade packs, gum, personal items, and a short sleeve underarmor style Steelers shirt (which was Avery's idea, because as she said "people never stop being Steelers fans, no matter where they are").
Each of the kiddos wrote a letter, drew pictures, or wrote a story to send in a second box that we are putting homemade cookies and what not in. I wish we could send more, I wish we could do more to show my brother and all of our service men that we are proud of them, we support them, and we are praying that God give them the emotional and physical strength to do thier job effectivly.
I was happy to hear that the APO/FPO boxes are flate rate, and are even $2.00 cheaper to send off this month (about $11). They can be picked up at your local Post Office for free. In order for the care packages to be recieved before Christmas they need to be postmarked before Dec 1 for priority, or nov 13 for standard rate. If you have the desire to send one or two off, please do not hesitate. If you simply need someone to send it to I have a list of about 15 guys from PA and Virginia that we were hoping to eventually send something off to.

I was doing a walking tour in a historic house district in Springfield Oregon and met Debbie Macauley. She was just about to mow her lawn. At first she feeling too emotional to talk but opened up about how her husband had died and she needed to sell this house very quickly. It was possible that she would lose it to foreclosure. The impending rain didn't help the mood situation either. She let me know how much she loved her home and living in Springfield. I took her photo in front of her front door with the flag she hung to support the troops. It is on her front door since the area she lives in has rules for the historic district and she couldn't add a flag pole.

This person presumably supports their troops (though "their" is never defined) yet it seems this person ALSO opposes the current military action in Iraq. I'd say it's a pretty clever response to the classic yellow ribbon.
Philadelphia: Local officials and military-connected organizations honored a World War II veteran on Friday, June 11 at a patriotic event hosted by Cherry Hill Dodge and the New Jersey Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) program.
Eighty-nine year-old honoree Edward Martino of Cherry Hill is a Purple Heart recipient who served in the 309th Combat Engineers in the Army's 84th Infantry Division. He was wounded by shrapnel in the bloody Battle of the Bulge amid snow, sleet and rain in March 1945.
"Our owner Charlie Faulke is a Korean War veteran and we have gone out of her way to support active and former military, so when the opportunity to honor a veteran came long, we jumped at the opportunity," said dealership manger Bryan Lasater, an Air Force veteran.
Donna Clementoni of Barrington, an ESGR advocate ad spokeswoman, said ESGR is a mainly volunteer Department of Defense organization seeking to create a business culture in which all American employers value and support the military service and sacrifice of their employees
