Second stop on our road trip: San Diego! What an amazing city! Went to Sunset Cliffs to, guess what, watch the sunset. Saw this couple relaxing on the edge of one of the cliffs.
One shot picture, with some detail lost in the shades and highlights. I also took 2 shots to make an HDR but I didn't use them as I actually liked how the contrast worked out on this picture!
Happy to hear your thoughts!
Back when I was a hardcore birder, people would ask what my favorite bird was. Here ya go.

I need some help choosing between these 3 photos. Please let me know which one you like best. I like all three of these, so I might keep them all.

San Diego, CA. From the cliffs, the California Gray Whale can be seen migrating annually from the Bering Sea to Baja California.
I shot these nice sandstone formations from Sunset Cliffs Natural Park. I had never explored THIS particular portion of Sunset Cliffs until tonight - despite living in San Diego since the late 1980's.
This is a panorama (though cropped to standard proportions) of 6 individual frames shot at 15 sec f/4 ISO 3200 19mm with a Canon 6D and Canon 17-40mm f/4L lens.
Unless we get some dry Santa Ana condition again in the next few days, tonight may have been my final coastal Milky Way shooting session until next year. I have several more shots I took here and Cardiff Beach and will be posting them over the next several days.
A few weeks ago Spencer Pablo hit me up to see if I wanted to catch the sunset. I’ve been so busy with other aspects of life and capturing portraiture that I hadn’t been out to shoot any landscape work in quite some time. So I happily obliged and met him at this cliff side in San Diego. It had been so long that I have to admit that I felt a little off and switching to the mindset of capturing a landscape was a bit foreign for a few minutes while I fumbled with getting my gear set up and getting a comp that I felt captured the elements that caught my eye. Meanwhile Spencer was multi-tasking with his camera on a tripod while navigating his drone overhead capturing some images with his eagle in the sky (go check out his work @spencerpablophotography ) anyway, before I knew it his drone was hovering next to me as it was coming in for a landing. We had a great chat over some good Mexican food about family, life, work, and a bit of photography, thanks for that.

Found an old photo from a while back. Haven't been to the beach in a while, at least not with my camera.

Felimare californiensis, found as is, crawling in a shallow tidepool at Sunset Cliffs before dawn. This species went missing in southern California for about 20 years, so it has been gratifying to find them again, especially in tide pools.
Climb up atop the mountain here
. . . I took this a few days ago when the tide was very low along the cliffs, which exposed the vibrant colors of the moss and red of the rocks usually hidden from view. I thought this was kind of cool because it gives the impression of looking at the landscape from a kind of satellite view, giving the impression of vast mountain ranges jutting up out of ocean. I can't decide if the seagull being there enhances this perspective, or diminishes it. Anyway, like I said, I thought it was pretty neat. So there.

According to Greek mythology, sirens were dangerous yet beautiful creatures, portrayed as femme fatales who lured nearby sailors with their enchanting music and voices to shipwreck on the coast.

I know. I'm a little late with my posts...forgive me. A few weeks ago I went on an adventure to Sunset Cliffs in Ocean Beach with cosplay models Nicolle Blair and Katie Courtney (more formally known by their fans as The Spritely One and Katt Louise).
I had no idea how this concept would come together until they appeared next to my parked car, shivering in their lacy garments. Apparently these outifts were put together not mere hours until the shoot! Nicolle and Katie styled the whole session, including hair and make up.
We were able to brave the high tide and slippery rocks, but sadly my 70-200mm lens hood rolled off the embankment and disappered in the raging water. It happens. ;)
