. . . leading to Solitude in Paradise right here
(And now I know where the hell my old surfboard ended up. I've been looking for that thing for, like, 8 years).
During my time in San Diego visiting my sister, we visited Sunset Cliffs. I went back a few times by myself to sit. What a lovely place. We also loved the Little Lion Cafe close by for a killer breakfast.
Waves crash against the large rock at Sunset Cliffs. Two surfers patiently wait for the right wave.

Surfer emerging from outside break off Sunset Cliffs, San Diego, California. This surfing break is known locally as Indicator. It is located several hundred yards off shore and is only surfed during large storm swells such as those we experienced today.
During high tide this morning a storm-generated swell reached our coast after crossing the Pacific and wave crests reached 15 feet here at Point Loma and 17 feet in some areas along our coast. Those earlier waves caused a temporary closure of the Ocean Beach Pier. This was one of the best big wave surfing conditions of the season.
I photographed this scene from the bluffs at the west end of Hill Street. The swell hitting this outer reef was producing multiple simultaneous breaks such as the two shown here. Oblique side lighting brought out texture in the spray and helped create a sharp outline of this top notch surfer toward the end of a thrilling ride.
Technical: Nikon D7000 camera body and tripod-mounted Tamron 200-500 mm, f/6.3 zoom lens. Settings were ISO 200, f/8, 1/1600 sec, -0.3 step.

Last night's wonderful sunset at Sunset Cliffs Natural Park, in Ocean Beach, San Diego, CA. I had arrived later than I would have liked and had almost given up trying to find a spot that felt right. As I was walking back to the Vespa, I turned around and saw this view.

A few days ago the bioluminescence put on quite a show, but due to my work schedule this is all that was left when I finally got out there. Sunset Cliffs. San Diego, CA.
