Surfer Series (San Diego CA)

Starting a new series - surfing around San Diego. Yesterday (day after Thanksgiving, 2009) was a pretty good for surfing and all the dudes and dudettes came out to play. A much better way of spending "Black Friday." Oh, yeah. Enjoy!

You basically can surf year round here in San Diego. It's amazing. The winter season doesn't stop surfers either. They just wear thicker wetsuits, boots, gloves, and head pieces and head out to the ocean.

Being out in the water or even by the ocean has a calming effect. It was a much needed break from writing my thesis this weekend. :) Plus, looking in tide pools are always fun. I'm so glad I live by the beach.

Wow Sunset Cliffs is WILDER than I anticipated!

Much appreciate the local folk recommending I survey the place with Westcoast Wildlife Vision. I helped a person clean a cut in their foot and met a man named Sage!

Surprised to see people free-diving in front of grottos! Careful with your center of gravity exploring these cliffs. It is a sweet feeling to know that adventurous places like this exist in San Diego, though I heard news of caves being filled in by the city council!

I know, the contrast sucks on the Cliff...

I found this interesting texture on the rocks at Sunset Cliffs. To view the Large version please click Here

Sit yourself down and wait for the bus here. It might be a while.

Hehehe . . . somebody obviously replanted the Guizot and Sunset Cliffs street sign from its original location to a location much more appropriate. That's funny. I mean, can we expect anything else in Ocean Beach? No way. That's why we love it there. : D

I find that balance is the most difficult thing to obtain, in exposure, contrast, sharpness, hue, color... life. It's incredibly difficult to force anything into balance - there's often so many components to the element, and a vast range of differences that would have to be accounted for. You often have to make sacrifices that make the process unworthy of being called balanced - it's rare that everything works itself out.

Sometimes though, although rare, everything just fits with a little (if any) finesse and life feels spectacular again. I think it's these moments I truly live for.

This photo was taken at Sunset Cliffs Natural Park in Point Loma of San Diego this weekend. The trip was a lot of fun, and I still have many many more photos to go!

Step out onto The Rock here

Ross Rock - or "The Rock" as it's best known by the locals - sits off Sunset Cliffs in Ocean Beach in San Diego CA. It has become a kind of soap box for anonymous artists and pranksters, who periodically display a variety of creative structures and/or messages, from Peace Signs to protests signs to . . . whatever. The latest being this 2010 sign, assumed to have been put by Seniors from the 2010 graduating class of Pt. Loma High School, which is located in the area.

Pretty cool.
