Whilst at Thornton Reservoir yesterday evening, I decided to try something different and experiment with the focal length during a 30sec exposure. This is the result.
I'm not sure if I like it or not, my son thinks it's great.
Thank you for looking and for any comments you may leave, which are as always much appreciated.
I've been taking pictures for our local cricket club for the last few seasons, trying to capture the people that make up the club as well as the action of the games.
Jess is a great sport, helping out at the canteen and (more importantly for me) always ready for an impromptu portrait session.
Had a bit of fun with my camera. This proved to be far more challenging that it looks but what a blast! Looks better on black

This camera means a lot to me because it was the first SLR I owned. We have been apart some time and It has come back into my possession through a turn of event’s I couldn’t have predicted.
Some time around 1998 when I was the ripe old age of 15 this body and a selection of lenses was given to me by my Step-Mum, I had a great time with it, and used it extensively, learnt how to control exposure, aperture and how to compose shots nicely. I cost myself (by this I mean my parents) a small fortune in film and developing costs. Then I started 6th form college, found beer, and girls, and clubbing and my photography took a back seat. This baby came out on holidays and that’s about it.
Then some years later I was given a Pentax ist* DSLR by my now father in-law so this was put away in a corner and forgotten about whilst I marvelled at the innovation of digital. Eventually whilst busy having kids and moving house several times, The bag ended up in a skip on the building site I was working on at the time never to be seen again….or so I thought.
Turns out that a friend of mine working on the same site, had a son who was interested in photography and was starting a course at college, so he fished it out. Recently whilst chatting he mentioned that his son no longer needed/used it and that it would be possible for me to have it back, this is years after it went into the big yellow bin.
So I collected it off him last week, and I’m really glad I did. The past year has seen my interest in older cameras develop into a hobby that my wife is desperately trying to stifle, as all empty space in my office is beginning to fill with old body’s and lenses, and its only a matter of time until they overflow into the rest of the house :-)
One man’s junk is another man’s gold then the first man’s collectors item :-)

2019/09/02: A new twist on potatoe chips I presume.. perhaps a common fast food elsewhere but looks good.. at least by the look of that kids face :-)
experimenting.
On a random note, this afternoon I did a shoot in a graveyard with a model and an assistant (both are my friends and classmates) and the ideas I had in my head actually worked. Kinda different for me in some ways and then again... kinda not but I can see I am evolving. Actually lets face it there is no way I would have done a shoot in a graveyard if I hadnt been doing this course. I am really proud of what I got out of it, the photos are for an exhibition my class is doing in a few weeks. I look forward to sharing them with you all soon! It felt SO GOOD to be shooting with a model again, after shooting so much with self portraits I really do enjoy having someone to direct and it makes it so much easier (and more fun)!
In Japanese, this phrase is translated as "Cheers to your Eyes". Well, cheers to YOUR eyes, my flickr friends!
It's much bigger and better than expected.
