A lot of businesses have installed heaters that only turn on when a door is opened, thus reducing energy costs. In this situation, the Varsity Common Sobeys store in Saskatoon has installed a sensor on this GT 1175 Whisper Slider. That way, when the door opens, the heater activates. Once the door comes to a complete closure, the overhead heater turns off. I like how things are connected to each other. At this point, the only surprising thing is that the door isn't wired/linked to any security system right now.

A new FreshCo, this time of the CHALO! flavour. CHALO! FreshCos are like normal FreshCos however they have an expanded product line targeted towards the South Asian community. This location is brand new, opening in the past 5 years.

Stonebridge Centre is being constructed in Saskatoon near Preston Avenue South and Circle Drive, and includes a number of familiar stores. Stores include Sobeys, Shoppers Drug Mart, and a first for Saskatchewan... Sobeys Liquor. It appears most stores will be using automatic doors from Besam. The Sobeys grocery store has yet to open.

Similar to the College Park Sobeys store in Saskatoon, this store on Rochdale Boulevard uses three sets of Besam doors and one Stanley set. This is more perplexing than the Saskatoon location I mentioned.

B.T.O. finished off the night with a rocking time playing their own music, plus music from the Guess Who and a final jam session playing music from other bands where the audience sing-along in a arousing way!

Previously located at 1403 Central Avenue in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, the Staples store in Prince Albert relocated to the Cornerstone shopping centre in an old Sobeys store that closed in 2014. At its old store located in the Gateway Mall, the store had NABCO doors, which is unusual for a Staples store, as most of them I've been to have had Besam doors for as long as I can remember.

Sobeys came to Rethink with an assignment to create a new grocery store brand that was discount, but better. They wanted a value brand that inspired shoppers; one that focused on value rather than price. Rethink came up with the name FreshCo and designed everything to match.

A small and strange looking Sobeys along Broadview in Toronto. Exterior and interior wise the store features the standard Sobeys store design from around the mid-2000s.

Based on part of the old façade that faces Broadview, I would say that this Sobeys was an IGA at some point, probably of the Garden Market IGA variety. Unfortunately however, I am not sure of the exact history of this store.

Probably my favourite quirk of this store is how the frozen foods section is oddly contained within a random corner of the store. You don't see this all too often at other Sobeys locations.

In 2014, Federated Co-operatives Ltd., also known as Co-op, bought a number of Safeway stores from Sobeys in Saskatchewan, Alberta and Manitoba after its acquisition of Safeway in 2013 and the Competition Bureau required that it sell 23 stores to other companies. The purchase included this store located at 3310 8th Street East in Saskatoon at The Centre. The store has gone through minor renovations since the store's ownership changed hands. The store used to have a parcel pick-up area with a separate entrance, which is now being demolished and replaced with offices. The store's front entrance used to have automatic swing doors from Stanley, but most have been replaced with single slider doors from NABCO: the GT 1175 Whisper Slider.

"The great eastern complex" is my term for the Rothesay Avenue/McAllister Drive/Westmorland Road

retail area. We tried out the new Target store and, frankly, I wasn't overly impressed with it. Swarms of

curious people and no checkout clerks! You have to scan everything yourself, and there were a mere

three machines in operation that day just shortly after the place opened its doors for the first time.

Moreover, the machines are located at the store ENTRANCE! Constant coming and going while you're

trying to scan your purchases. You'd think common sense would have dictated a separate entrance

and exit, with the scanners (logically) at the exit. Anyway, as we rode the bus back home I overheard

one woman say to her friend that "Wal-Mart is better than Target". Not the greatest of introductions. Later note: Target began closing down its Canadian stores early in 2015.

Another strip mall complex in east Saskatoon, with a Sobeys grocery store and various other small retail outlets.

The Cumberland Square Safeway store in Saskatoon originally opened in 1964, and has gone through minor renovations over the years. Eventually, Sobeys Inc. acquired Canada Safeway and was required to sell a number of locations to competitors in order to complete the purchase. This store, however, wasn't required to be sold. However, the lease to this store comes to an end soon, and a Sobeys store is across the street. With the costs associated with renovating this store, the decision was made to close this store. The store closed at 6:00 pm on April 5, 2014.

For a store that was closing, I was surprised by how much stock was remaining.

This store was unique in Saskatoon because the inside reveals that it is a marina-style store, but the outside doesn't. The other store that resembles this type of store can be found at 302 33rd Street West.

After the beach that day, I went to Sobey's and found out that Scotsburn lemonade had been discontinued in the time since our previous trip. That was disappointing, as Scotsburn lemonade was delicious, but it was pure sugar, so that's probably for the best.

We went back to the beach in the afternoon, then had snacks on the deck, which woulda been when I took this picture.

St. Mellion Golf Club's 2015 Ladies Captain's Day was hosted by this year's Lady Captain Mary Brinsley. A full entry with two and a half hours of tee times kept Mary extremely busy. And to keep all those golfers going Mary's partner Pete Mehigan and injured lady golfer Cheryl Bridgeman were on hand to dish out free drinks and snacks at the Halfway House. An overcast, breezy day created a tough test for the lady members. After the golf the ladies enjoyed tea and cake in the St. Piran Suite followed by presentation of prizes. Well done Mary, a fantastic day.

In 2013, Sobeys agreed to acquire Canada Safeway. In order for the takeover to proceed, the Competition Bureau of Canada ordered that Sobeys sell 23 stores, including both Sobeys and Safeway banner stores. Out of these 23, one Safeway store at The Centre was on that list. On May 12, 2014, the Safeway store closed and the transformation into a Saskatoon Co-op store began, as Federated Cooperatives Ltd. acquired the store in Saskatoon.

While the shopping carts were "re-badged" with Co-op decals, these ones still exist with the Safeway logo on them.

In this picture, there's two Safeway carts and two carts with the new badging.

This store is located at 3310 8th Street East and is located not far from existent store in Greystone Heights located at 2507 8th Street East. It was recently announced that the older store will close.

The Saskatoon Co-op store located at 2507 8th Street East closed on June 14, 2014. On June 15, 2014, I dropped by the closed store to take pictures of the inside of the store. The only thing I wonder is... what will become of the automatic sliding doors inside the store?

Jenn's Garden is a brand of vegetables I saw at Sobeys and is based in Saskatoon. It's funny because I have a friend named Jennifer that calls herself Jenn.

On October 17, 2014, I paid a visit to the Sobeys store located at 3907 8th Street East. Two doors at the main lobby have been replaced. Inside, the doors are still from Stanley Access Technologies. However, two sets of Stanley doors are now from Besam. Furthermore, a new Sobeys store opening in Saskatoon are also using Besam doors. However, I do like the sensor, but I'm not quite sure which model is being used in this situation.
