Chopped Liver
Rye toast, cippolini onion. ($6)
Notes: Not bad - but different. The chopped liver connoisseur at our table gave a good summary: excellent texture (it was very smooth) but non-traditional flavor. The pate was bolstered with Mediterranean spices (I believe they were Turkish) and a nice spicy kick. Loved the rye toast - a nice play on the traditional Jewish bread of choice.

Finally, after about two hours of hiking straight into the lava field, we found an active lava flow of 'a'a lava. 'A'a is the lava with a rough surface, while pahoehoe lava has a smoother surface. Both types are identical in chemical structure, but pahoehoe lava is of higher temperature. You see cold pahoehoe lava here, while the hot 'a'a lava is flowing ontop.
