Photoshop overlay of portrait of King Smooth, a Philly wall writer from the late 1960s to early 1970s.
Sunrise at Bogong Creek near Dead Horse Gap in the beautiful alpine area of Kosciuszko National Park, NSW, Australia. Shot earlier this month during my weekend stay.
Single 5 second exposure using a circular polarising filter (Singh-Ray Color Combo). Cropped the overexposed sky out and minor tweaks to levels and curves in Photoshop.
Happy Week end friends :)

They say there is going to be a storm over the weekend, and that today the waves would have been nice down at the beach, blown in by the winds ahead of the storm.
I like this shot because it shows the rough waters at the breaker and its surf; the laminar flow right behind, with the sediment that has been stirred up; the quiet deeper water behind the "ridge" of the wave.

Pothole Dome is a "roche moutonée", a block of rock over eroded and polished by a glacier in motion over it. Among the various indicators of such motion, one is the very smooth surface of the rock surface, caused by the grinding of very fine ("rock flour") sedimentary particles. Another is the presence of parallel scratches on the rock surface, caused by bigger sedimentary particles trapped at the bottom of the ice mass in motion.
In this image we can see the smooth surface of the granite, which shows crystals of quartz, biotite, potassium feldspar and very big white crystals of sodium plagioclase, and the scratches, which are particularly visible on said plagioclase crystals. An idea of the size of these features is provided by the lens cap edge on the right.

Taken at dusk just as the sun was more or less behind the horizon behind me. Annoying tourist boat in the foreground that I couldn't quite get rid of but it still made for a nice serene evening on the Lamar bridge. Guess if you try hard, there are some nice vantage points in Austin.
