Pre and post processing with Pixinsight

I’ve been playing with a new workflow and tools in Pixinsight using Cuiv’s mastering Pixinsight YouTube video as inspiration and a guide. I thought I would have a go at re-processing the data I captured on February 26th, 2021. It is, in effect, a rework of the image I posted on March 3rd, 2021 [https://www.flickr.com/photos/matt3775/51000661947]. The nebula's centre isn’t ideal, but this resulted from trying to reduce the overall brightness of the Trapezium Cluster, which was blowing the whole centre out.

The main subject nebulosity is M42, The Orion Nebula, an emission-reflection region. Just above M42 is the smaller nebulosity surrounding the irregular variable star HD37061, known as De Mairan’s Nebula or M43.

Using Pixinsght, the background was extracted using Seti Astro’s Automatic DBE before using Russel Crowman’s BlurXterminator and NoiseXterminator.

22nd January 2021. A bright moon limited possibilities.

Not easy to capture NGC7000, or the North America nebula with an unmodified DSLR. But the area around Deneb (in Cygnus) is beautiful anyway. This is captured fom a small countryside village, with some light pollution still.

This is the result of several 30s to 3min exposure shots taken with a Nikon D5200 and a Tamron 16-300 at about 150mm. The camera was mounted on the Skywatcher Staradventurer mount. Pretty good for its size and weight!!

Taken with a Skywatcher ED80 Refractor fitted with a Baader Astrosolar Filter and a Canon 600D at prime focus. Best 20 of 50 images stacked using Registax 6 as very turbulent seeing today.

Just a quick and fun photo using the 77mm Kenko Pro Softon-A filter from Japan. This thread on filter gives you the "fuzzy stars" effect.

Collected between 2:08 and 4:14 on the 26th of March, 2022.

The Iris Nebula, also NGC 7023 and Caldwell 4, is a bright reflection nebula and Caldwell object in the constellation Cepheus. NGC 7023 is actually the cluster within the nebula, LBN 487, and the nebula is lit by a magnitude +7 star, SAO 19158.[1] It shines at magnitude +6.8. It is located near the Mira-type variable star T Cephei, and near the bright magnitude +3.23 variable star Beta Cephei (Alphirk). It lies 1,300 light-years away and is six light-years across

This is the very first time I have imaged this object, and it is the first object ot be imaged with my new Skywatcher Quattro 8-CF F4 telescope, I am extremely happy with the results

The image consists of the following:

Luminance: 19x300S

Red: 13x300S

Green: 13x300S

Blue: 13x300S
