On my way back from misty Durdle Door, I found this old signpost.
There are a lot of these old signs in Dorset. I think they have so much more charm than the more clinical modern ones and I'm pleased that Dorset hasn't swept them all away just for the sake
of change.
Another old signpost with a missing arm near Coldstream. Qarter miles were important when this was erected!
We started the walk using Walkers Fold - a new to us Woodland Trust car park not too far from Horwich, but we accessed via Belmont.
It was an area that we were fairly familiar but the start point was new and we hadn't walked that way before, so it was an intriguing mix of the new and familiar.
One of the quite numerous surviving old signposts still to be found in the Borders - this one looks to need some TLC soon.
Before heading over to Stewart Island, we visited Bluff, the most southernmost town on the “mainland” of New Zealand. Also famous for its oysters.
Walking trails criss-cross the Cantabrian Mountains in northern Spain. Some of these ancient routes are the pathways of medieval saints; most connect old villages.

Wādī Banī Khālid is a recreational oasis in the aptly named Al-Hajar (Rocky or Stone) Mountains of Oman.
The local visitors are all having a wonderful time. Although a policy of modernisation has been in place since 1970 in the Sultanate of Oman, this is an absolute monarchy and a Muslim country with an expectation of modest dress in public places.

A sign-post deprived of its purpose in life by the dust from the adjacent aggregates depot settling on and coating its pointy bits.

Old road directional signpost that has lost it's direction arms. The location is a bit strange as it is located at the junction of a major route (A40) and a farm track.

Detail of 'la Lonja de la Seda' in Valencia, the medieval silk exchange. Beautiful building with details of hidden meaning. This sculpture for instance depicts a woman of loose morals (see where her hands are directed..) and points the silk merchants conveniently (and not so discretely...) in the direction of Valencia's then red light district
