Lurking in the margins of the Mainline fleet in the mid 1990s, was a small group of Atlanteans; the fading remains of the large and varied collection of Leyland double deckers, which held sway in the days of Sheffield Transport and South Yorkshire PTE.

Although still used occasionally in front line service, they were more often found on the school routes, work services and shopping centre links that are the stock in trade of a species in decline. Despite low numbers, three body styles were still represented, each telling its own story of previous allegiences.

About to turn into Pond Street bus station in June 1996 is Alexander bodied 1702 of 1979, working out of Greenland Road depot. Atlanteans with this style of Alexander bodywork were ordered and received by Sheffield Transport before the 1974 take over by SYPTE.

Today's catch, an extra 272 train on the Canadian Pacific's Chicago Subdivision. This Soo Line 6035 was labeled 272-2 today, as there were too many freight cars for one train to take to the Bensonville yard. The Soo had to wait patiently for the 273 to clear so they could continue their trip East.
