I was talkin to a friend the other day about wanting to make a mer av but not really knowing what I wanted to make. I had just shown her a recent video short from fashion designer Iris Van Herpen, wherein her models are submerged and performing in her designs underwater. Here's the video:
It's a really cool video, and the designs are fabulous. My pal agreed, and suggested I do a look inspired by something in it. I'm not really the biggest fan of the color orange, but found myself most drawn to the black and orange look. So I figured I would take the challenge of using the color orange, as well as doing orange and black and NOT making it look Halloween-y lol. This is where I landed, and I'm pretty happy with it. I like this look a lot.
Here's what I'm wearin!

When I went to the High Museum last month, I knew I wouldn't be able to photograph the wonderful Louvre Atlanta exhibit, but I took my camera anyway.
I'm still way behind in visiting. I'm really sorry.

Ophelia is the cutest person I know. With this costume and make-up she seems cute and creepy/dangerous in the same time to me.
This pose is inspired from a lurking cat. Still and fixed at the moment (cute), but in the next second the explodes...
Or like catoga :-)
The black and white stripes reminds me on Tim Burtons artworks and that needs striped tentacles :-)

AOP Student Award Competition 2009
For months i has been pondering over the idea of building an entire set inspired by "Get Carter". This competition allowed me the opportunity to do just that. I created the entire set from scratch with the help of a set builder. This was about attention to detail, with the right model being the finishing touch.
The key is backlighting.
Strobist: bowens 1000w espirit camera right behind model, 1/2 power through barn doorns for rim. bowens 1000w espirit camera left behind model about 9 ft up,1/4 power through grid spot. white polyboard 4ft from model for fill.
An old picture.
It is so cute it is so pink...
I'm not able to write anything :-)
Model and makeup: ophelias-overdose
Lolly: made by my girlfriend :-)
Photo and CGI: me
I take the photo in front of green paper in my studio and create the background in 3D (MAXON CINEMA 4D XL 10 and PlaceonPoints PlugIn)
Key in Adobe Aftereffects (Keylight) and compositing in Photoshop.
so last year me and 3 others built this whole set, lit it, found a model, shot it. Did absolutely everything and here is the result of 5 days hard work!
This charming structure in Sifley Plaza at the High Museum is a bit of an optical illusion. It is primarily two-sided, with a front and back that bend at angles to give the impression that it is a more solid four-sided piece (it does technically have four sides; however, the two side sides are narrow and black, to give the impression of an outline of a drawing). It's difficult to explain, which is one of the reasons it's such a joy to look at and puzzle over.
Facts: Roy Lichtenstein, (American, 1923-1997) House III, 1997 (fabricated 2002). Painted and fabricated aluminum. Overall: 157 x 210 x 60 in., 2500 lbs. (398.8 x 533.4 x 152.4cm, 1134kg).

Fashion Constructed Image, was a project that ran across my 2nd semester. In a group of 6 we build, photographed and took the set within a week.
Our concept was to look into the downfall of the american dream, through the combination of the Model becoming a mannequin of the political correct american way, a puppet of society and the Set being inspired through the architecture and meaning behind the American Nuclear Town house (the purpose to create a dream house just to blow it up) and Kolmanskop (a city eaten up by the desert).
We wanted to tell the narrative of the subject being wrapped up in this american dream a dream that has become delusion and the reality is much more destructive.
Sneak preview of my diorama for Uncanny Dream. Join us in May in Seattle to see the finished piece! uncannydream.candygears.com
