If you've tried to photograph one of these beautiful cats hunting in long grass you'll know how frustratingly difficult it is to get a clean head shot.

The African Serval is a wild cat that is medium-sized with large ears and spotted fur and is native to Africa.

Not a particularly great photo, but a very special subject. I have been going to the zoo since before I could walk and I have never seen this shy cat out before, it was an incredibly special moment.

Although widely distributed in grass savannahs where it preys upon rodents, birds and small antelope, the Serval is rarely seen being mainly nocturnal and preferring thick cover. It was, therefore, a real treat to see this long-legged individual moving through Gaysay Grasslands in Bale Mountains National Park, Ethiopia.

African servals are small, slender cats with long legs, a lean body, short tail, and a small head. Their extra-long neck and legs give them the nickname "giraffe cat." Servals have a coat that is tawny with both black lines and spots, while their belly is a soft white. They top out at 40 pounds (18 kilograms) yet have the largest ears of any cat.

This serval was quite pissed off when he saw me!

Now, a photo of a serval walking in his enclsure...

The serval cat is from Africa where tall grass and bushes can camouflage this tall cat allowing it to sneak up on its prey. They are known to resemble cheetahs but have shorter tails than their larger cousins. They typically hunt where they can hide and stay near water. In the wild, they are solitary and cover a home territory of four to 12 square miles. African serval cats are not on the endangered species list.

Having the longest legs of any cat (in proportion to their bodies), servals are agile jumpers as well as experienced diggers. They can catch birds over nine feet in the air and dig a couple of feet into the ground to get under a fence.

Another portrait of a serval, among some vegetation!

I love the way this serval looks at the branch,

sniffs it and just has to bite into it, lol

I thought this might make a cute collage !! : )))

Wishing you all a beautiful & blessed day ~

We saw a few servals, but always far in the distance. Near the end of the trip we were treated to see this guy running across the field.

Onother shot of the same serval, angry again!
