This little seedling has made it through several freezes and some snow. I thought it would work for the DPS assignment of showing at least two of the four elements: water, fire, earth and air. I liked how the drop of water reflects the earth. I had to crop this quite a bit.
I discovered this seedling while transplanting larger ones.

On a very cold January day it's nice to have fresh green seedlings popping up. Moonflowers, white marigolds and hopefully delphiniums. So far, no sign of the delphinbiums. But those moonflowers are already 4 inches tall!

Stinging Nettle seedling, stem view.
From the top it looks like catnip. But one look at the stem will tell you which is which. Stinging Nettle will be covered with thorns and will hurt you if you touch it (thus the name).

This picture was taken in my kitchen. I was standing by the sink, doing the washing up, thinking that it would be a good idea to go and take and daily picture. Maybe this would distract me from my stream of thoughts about my writing and whether it was going in the right direction - and whether it was really growing at all. I glanced over at my herb seedlings - and it seemed to me that they were a good example of growth at different speeds. For days, the two pots on the right showed no signs of growth. I restrained myself from throwing them away. And now in one pot, there is one shoot, and in the other some leggy stalks. The herb seedlings are also a reminder of the natural instinct to grow towards the sun.
I decided to grow some wildflowers in an empty patch of soil in the garden, to attract butterflies and other wildlife. The seedlings are just starting to poke through.
This little seedling is nearly free of the snow that held it captive all winter long.

This is a new piece in hopefully a new series. I am playing with the idea of the button being a "seed" that is "planted" in the fabric. Then based on the design and coloring of the button, embellishing with sprouts of thread, beads, wire wrapping...etc. So this is my first button seedling.
