Seedlings

KAUST Startup Red Sea Farms gives away pepper seedlings to community members.

It was a BIG success - Over 300 pepper seedlings were given away within 15 minutes!

lots of then are scattered in the grassy median, and none will survive --unlike the wild-flowers which crop up year after year,( crocus and lawn daisy and buttercup and dandelion etc ) since the grass gets cut several times a year

Now the hard work starts!

germination is simple, pricking out requires patience and time.

These seedlings are ready to be thinned. I always cut all but the strongest seedling in each cell. I don't always choose the tallest, I often choose the one with the strongest, thickest stem.

The seedling stage. This includes the period from right after emergence until just before the appearance of the first tiller. During this sage, seminal and lateral roots form and up to five leaves develop. Seedling ready for transplanting.

Seedlings in the greenhouse. Runner beans and climbing French beans, just germinating, in cardboard rolls that are just dropped into the soil for easy transplanting to the allotment. Tomatoes - San Marzano, Shirley and Moneymaker - cucumbers, squashes and peppers.

Sunflower seedlings, which will hopefully provide me with a 366 2008 subject in the months to come.
