Studio portrait of African American U.S. Army Lt. Thomas J. Bullock. Born and raised in Henderson, N.C., Bullock served in the Spanish-American War, and later served as the principal of the Williston Industrial School in Wilmington, N.C. Bullock served during World War I in the 367th Infantry, U.S. Army. He died in action at the Second Battle of the Marne in France on September 2, 1918 (Undated).

CHATEAU THIERRY, France, July 26, 2018 - The World War I Chateau-Thierry American Monument, is located on Hill 204 two miles west of Chateau-Thierry, France, and overlooks the Marne River Valley. Administered by the American Battle Monuments Commission, the monument commemorates the sacrifices of the Americans and French before and during the Aisne-Marne and Oise-Aisne offensives. SOUAIN-PERTHES-LES-HURLUS, Champagne-Ardenne, France, July 26, 2018 – The war memorial of the Armées de Champagne honors the sacrifices of Soldiers who fell during World War I, particularly those who fell during the Champagne Marne Defensive. The Georgia National Guard’s 151st Machine Gun Battalion lost ten killed and 43 wounded during the Champagne Marne Defensive. Pictured in front of the memorial are: Maj.
