Dhamma Society Pilgrimage to Buddhagaya, India.
Digital Archives from Dhamma Society's World Tipitaka Project in Roman Script, 1999-2007.
This a wall painting on the Rampage store in AZMills. Really liked the light and shade and the colour on the wall.
Really hard to see. Will probably delete this. It's of some scriptures in an antique/vintage bookstore in Brisbane city.
921.31.30 Reportedly from Shijiazhuang, Hebei Province, China. 15th-17th century AD Cast bronze, partially gilded 271 x 136 x 176 x 138 cm
Vairocana, the Buddha of Light, is the supreme manifestation of the Buddha principle. He embodies millions of worlds with millions of Buddhas. In later Chinese Buddhist art he is often represented with a crown with five Buddhas, and clasped hands with two fingers stretched, symbolizing his teaching of the Avatamsaka Sutra, the Flower Ornament Scripture.
[Personal Comments: This statue size is very rare in Chinese sculpture. Such size casted in bronze can only be archived by the tribute of aristocrats (Often by direct order of the emperor). This Vairocana statue's style more closely aligns with Yuan Dynasty Vairocana statue, in addition the flower stem pattern on this statue collar and cuff is popular in Early Ming Dynasty Yongle-Xuande Period (1402-1435) . ROM giving the date of
the 16th-mid - 17th century AD is quite conservative.
Vairocana statue often is placed as the central statue in a Vairocana Hall in a temple. This statue once likely was the most treasured statue of a temple, it must have been a dire situation for it being sold.]
