So a few months after Tahu, I decided to revamp Kopaka next in a similar style.

It's a version of Bulk that is often forgotten but very special, so now was the perfect time to give him some attention, and some height!

This was an absolute blast to make, this initially started with making the weapons. I tried to be faithful to the original set and recreate the weapons as identical as possible. I'm very proud of the end result!

Inspirations for this build was the original set and Megaman.

Kongu Mahri, armed with his two Cordak Blasters and plenty of attitude. For this revamp, it was especially important to carry over the bulkiness of the original set.

I've seen lots of headcanons positing that Kongu Mahri's armor was a sophisticated pressure suit designed to allow him to use his Air powers underwater, so I chose to keep as much of the broad design elements as I could. Also added an ammo belt for good measure. Look closely and you’ll see what efforts were made to accommodate the original build.

Yes, this is the real one. Yes, she still has dem hips. But really, Korgot is a very close second to my favorite build of this project (after Vizuna). Her... "unique" build (and large purple drill arm) really helps her stand out from the rest.

Shot this in 2009 with a Nikon D50 6mpx camera so the noise was pretty bad. Now I can fix it.

To say Hewkii Mahri was one of the more divisive sets of the entire BIONICLE line feels like quite an understatement. Not only was he released in the years of the toyline where LEGO was unsure which color scheme to market their Stone characters under, but this was also his second recolor after only three previous releases. Add to the mix the emphasis on the Cordak Blaster that cost the figure his entire right hand, the attachment for the Garai more akin to a Piraka spine than any mask we’d seen previously, and the second instance of the character packaged with chains, poor Hewkii would be the recipient of especially harsh criticism from fans for years to come.

There’s a certain charm to this set though, and I always appreciated the new parts it included as well as the Pohatu-esque oddities you won’t find outside of Po-Koro. Hewkii was modeled by BIONICLE Design Manager Christoffer Raundahl, who also designed Kongu Mahri, as well as Tahu, Kopaka, the Bohrok, the Bahrag and the Slizers. Today, I hope to do the figure some justice.

With this revamp I’ve taken significant steps to bulk up Hewkii’s armor and emulate the crab motif of the Garai. I’ve also added more black to his coloration and padded out the thigh armor with Roborider heads. It was important to keep the shoulder blades intact as they were one of the most memorable parts of the original set for me, though I opted to swap the Piraka arm for black to match his other limbs. With a reinforced Aqua Warblade and a reuse of Nuparu’s Inika shoulders as shinpads, I hope you all agree I’ve done the all-star Kolhii champion some justice.

she's probably the last one, not sure if pitch needs it looking at her next to the rest of them.

A couple of minor modifications to the arms and weapons.

Decided yesterday to update the RWS on my Bullpup ACV. It's a pity I don't have a second minigun or any other "cool" heavy machine guns : / but I did order some stuff but shipping is terrible : /

For this revamp of Pohatu, I wanted to emphasize his speed and his strength, so I made various parts of his intervals and externals be light grey, like a character with cyborg augmentations.

Just to prove that Akida can in fact still unite with the Toa, here's a picture of her on my Gali revamp. The guns still swivel up over the shoulders, and her head still fits over Gali's mask.

As for the Gali revamp herself, I just couldn't bear her awful proportions any longer and completely rebuilt her torso and legs to fix them. Though I liked the asymmetry, I'll save it for a later, more complete revamp.

Only recently came to appreciate how abstract his design is with those crazy shoulders and the hunched back.

This revamp fills in some gaps and fixes some proportions.

So many aesthetic features to love on Ackar from the use of the Electro Blades on the shoulders to the shinguards to the return of Mata red. I added some necessary bulk to the torso and filled in all the gaps I could. Not a great deal has been changed as the original set was so iconic. I may modify his upper arms in future but I like this version just fine right now.

Earlier this year, I decided to recreate the Hero Factory set Jetbug as a mecha.

The hips are based on this concept by jakobekvall, but use 3D-printed parts. The upper torso is based on ReFrame V2 by Messymaru. The legs are also inspired by his work.

Many elements of the design, like the body, the lower legs, or the shoulder shields are inspired by the Gundam Astaroth Origin.

As per request of leetrfrkno, here\'s a How-To for my Ketar Revamp. The build is a bit more complicated and unconventional than the other how tos I\'ve done, so I tried my best to make it slow and clear. Still, let me know if you have any questions.

Few tips:

There are a few connections in here that might be considered "illegal" as they put stress on the parts (such as the neck connection).

The brown minifig backpack parts were used as 1/4 stud spacers to keep the gears clear of obstruction. The minifig handlebar part that connects the back armor serves the same purpose.

Two legs are built with the 4L HF bones facing vertically, and the other two are facing horizontally.

When building the head, DO NOT USE OLD EXO-FORCE ARMS. Use the new reinforced ones, as the Creature heads will break the old ones! I found this out the hard way (with some of my few good brown arms). You have been warned.

When building the tail stinger, I used a black one of these in case you couldn\'t tell.

Toa of Okoto Revamps

STILL waiting for a few pieces for the Aufklarer...2 tan clips, 2 tan grilles, 2 red brown tiles, and done!

I have the chassis for the Hetzer done. Waiting for the curved pieces for the hull to finish that one off as well. :) As with most of my tanks, PA helped me to learn how to build them modular. I can remove the upper hulls easily in one piece and swap them with other tanks if wanted. Makes it soooo much easier to update or change out pieces. Thanks again PA.

Well, this project is just about wrapped up. I had a lot of fun with Kivoda's build, making him taller and lankier than the other Protectors (though I headcanon him as the youngest). Gali and Kivoda's armor always reminded me of wetsuits, so I tried to work that in there. I also appreciate the nod to my Gali Revamp in that chestpiece. Though I had headcanoned Kivoda as female and was rather shocked at the announcement that he was male, now I approve of the variety it provides to the Protectors.

Kivoda's "Sea Scooter" went through quite a few versions, but I'm very satisfied with how it turned out. I tried to work the spears in there, but they just didn't look great.

I ditched the punchy punch, but gave him back mounted cannons for a similar aesthetic and because I'm a crazy person.

I'll be honest, trying to figure out what to do with the Tarakava was a bit difficult. Most, if not all, Rahi are based on real-world animals, but what exactly is a Tarakava? Someone told me they were supposed to be some sort of crocodilian, so I tried to lean into that. All-in-all, I think it turned out well.

The famous Olympic ice skating oval.

Don't forget the machete.

My entry for BZPower's July Flickr contest and an addition to the BZPower Karda Nui table at Brickfair Virginia along with Lewa and Tanma. I don't know what other pictures to take, so let me know if you want to see other angles.

I never understood why Lego used the pieces they did for Krika's back legs. After all the spiny, ridged look of his head and forearms, they gave him large, spiky blades on the back. I think these pieces look much better. Also, this MOC is a preview of how to do my Lewa stomach piece in black. Unfortunately, the black missile holder pieces are shorter than Hordika necks and don't stick well in ball sockets, so I stuck on the red stripe and those lovely 1x1 round studs with holes.

I'm mainly a minifigure fan but I'll always have a soft spot for the classic Bionicle line from 2001.

One day I felt like reassembling Tahu, but then I realized his old design didn't age that well... his right arm morphed into a sword for some reason, and his left "hand" looked like a plug. He also had no working elbows or knees, even though the old marketing material did a good job making it look like they did.

So I decided to make my own design, fully articulated and posable.

I think it's cool that Lego more or less standardized their character building system, but I didn't think it would work well here. Even though CCBS nailed the structure, most characters end up looking too bulky for my taste, with all those armor plates and all that. A "classic" Toa would need a "Technic" feel, not a modern one.
