My good friend Grit, a gentle and lovely horse, died at five a.m. this morning.....he was retired but along with a madness he had for carrots and watermelon, he had the most gentle nuzzling that he would do to the back of my neck.....it ws a ritual: I would bend over in front of him and he would twitch his lips back and forth across my neck...given the chance he would also go through your pockets to see what he might find....his masterful days as a magnificent Missouri Foxtrotter were long behind him.....but as he plodded around the ranch with Pretty, the mare, always at his side, both keeping their distance from the ill tempered Red, he still had a majesty to him.....
I will miss him dearly.
