.... Backside of Victorian Fencing surrounding Osgoode Hall. Cast iron "buttresses" help support the tall & massive fencing on Queen Street in downtown Toronto ...

I am not doing much shopping in general, so I am never caught in shopping mall frenzy before holidays. It did not seem to be much craziness this year, as the only small lineup I have seen was in front of Apple store. The pedestrian connection (architects Wilkinson Eyre) over Queen Street from Eaton Center was added in 2017. This was the first time I walked through it. When I look at the photo now, it is evocative of zebra stripes on the street level. The old, much less stylish, tunnel was replaced after almost 40 years.

I just happened to be walking past the Treasury Casino tonight, and it was calling out to be photographed, in all it’s colourful glory.

p.s. the bar for this photo has been raised pretty high, with my photos for the last 2 days of this project making the flickr 'explore' pages. I'm absolutely stoked (and stunned) - thank you to everyone who viewed them, commented & added them to their favourites.

This stretch of Queen Street is possibly the trendiest in Toronto. Vegan Gelato is the 'King' here and I have no idea what they do to the coffee. The Roasted Nut opened just before the pandemic hit, so they must be doing something right to be still around. The wave of 'Pandemic kids' did not materialized. The population of dogs however increased dramatically in the streets of Toronto in last 18 months.

Nothing unusual about this Elicser mural tucked into St. Mathias alley of Queen Street. He is the most prolific muralist in the city, which is not surprising, as he is one of the best. I caught him few times painting. Last time when he was painting a mural on Queen Street he called Communication. He said it took him bit longer to finish, as there was a bit of 'communication' problem with the people who requested the commission. This mural is called Dave. Obviously.

Queen Street in the Georgian-era New Town on a slightly misty winter evening. Improvised shot, resting camera on the box that holds the push-to-cross button for the pedestrian crossing.

Cameron has a long history on Queen West and many of today's top musicians started their career there. The outside has always interesting mural and the ants, despite their creepiness have certain draw. The building is from 1880 (build for Angus Cameron dry goods store) It became a hotel in 1920's and in the 1980's the street level morphed into entertainment venue. Some of the performers lived upstairs at one time or other. Cameron was one of the first venues which launched Queen West edginess. I rarely frequent this place. Somehow, I do not feel that I fit.

This mural is from John Abrams (2012) . It depicts a scene from Hitchcock movie Vertigo (Kim Novak). It was replaced by another Abrams murals few years later. Abrams has painted every mural on this wall since 1984.

It seem that the construction on this complicated intersection seem to be going for years. Probably not yet Guinness World record, but it's highly annoying. I pass here weekly, and there seems to be little progress and hardly anyone is working. One thing which disappeared is overhead wire mesh. At this intersection several street car routes meet and there is also TTC garage and maintenance depot. Here were probably most of overhead wires in the whole city in one spot.

Next time I take a photo here, somebody will wear the crown! My Roti opened in 2018 (previously 'Saigon Hustle' lasted about 1 year) and it has been Bon's sandwich shop before. The building is interesting, as it has distinctive large round corner. Built probably in 1970's. The mural was done by Duro3 "durothethird" and "c&dgroup". My Roti has several locations in Toronto.

Dean Street was designed and built by the architect David Stephenson in 1787. A railway arch was built across the street in 1848, and a second arch added in 1894.

This photo was taken at dawn from the junction of Queen Street and The Side looking up towards Milburn House and Dean Street.

Wonderful collaboration of two relatively well known Toronto muralists. Both have their own distinctive style. This is probably from early 2018.

A newcomer to the music scene, by now really establishment in the best sense of the meaning. I did not select an exterior shot, as it is not really that captivating. Drom has become a hangout for musicians and it seems to be a party atmosphere there whether it's a Saturday or Thursday night. Misha is the main guy there and Drom created a lifeline for variety of Toronto music since 2018. They kept it going through various lockdowns and now it's almost back to Normal, which is Extraordinary.

Long time in this location, it is the first time I seen it not obstructed by garbage bins. Ness Lee is well known Toronto muralist and this is the oldest of her murals I know about. The back alley gives you a fast disappearing look of Toronto, as 2 story structures lining the main streets are replaced by condos.

Love Rocks! Long exposure off beach in Cape May, New Jersey.

The soul of 'Drom Taberna', the man who makes things happen, not only actually wear wide brimmed hats of many colours, but manages to do all kinds of big and little jobs; from public relations to being main cheerleader for whichever band is playing on stage.

We have in Toronto a celebrity, unlike any. I doubt there will ever be protest at this statue demanding that it will be torn down, unless the squirrel becomes a Mayor (yes, everything is possible, we had Rob Ford as a Mayor). Not only this squirrel has a statue, several murals are dedicated in her/his name and even streets are named after it.

White Squirrel by Brandon Vickerd (2019) located at White Squirrel Way; obviously Eh.

Every time I rode by this store I was always attracted by the bold lettering. There are actually several Fish & Chips stores in Leslieville, which used to be populated by people on British decent. This look like a no nonsense place. The portions are still wrapped in newspaper and as this was Sunday, of course they are closed. This place looks like it has been around for 30-40 years without much change. Did not try it yet.

Sandhill has been used as a quayside since Roman times. The area was named Sandhill because originally it was little more than a hill of sand when the tide was out. It became home to several prominent merchants during the 16th century, and contains a number of Grade 1 listed buildings.

At the center of this photo is Phoenix House, situated at the junction of Queen Street and Lombard Street. It was designed and built by William Parnell in 1869 as offices for the Royal Insurance Company. The Tyne Bridge (built in 1928) can be seen crossing the roof of the building.

The photo was taken as the sun was rising at the left hand side of the frame.

Whatever works! This lady used to be a product model, anything from Chevrolet to Channel No.5, and still possesses a wonderful model smile. Now slowing down to solving crosswords, puzzles and sudokus, she still enjoys her daily whiskey. Of course this is just from my observation, when passing by... who needs facts, when you can invent stuff.

'Kris Kristofferson' was incognito in Toronto and I find myself beside him, listening to Virginia MacDonald. There is a lot of music to listen to in the city. I just was coming from another music show and got to hear the last tune of the performance. I am not sure if 'Kris' was next on the program.

The sun has set and a late autumn snowfall blankets the Shingwaulk / Bishop Fauquier Memorial Chapel at Algoma University. The Anglican chapel was built in 1883 in a combination of gothic revival and tudor revival architectural styles- -with an exterior of half-timbered and local stone infill walls.

First there was 'Bordello', than 'The Hideout', a bar and music venue for a 10 years (2006-2016) at this location. Since then it was a 'Taco Bell', Quebec burger joint Bergham, and now Wendy's. Of course the building is around since 1879, so there have been many uses. The mural was done about a year ago by "onedaycreates" and "mostlyletters" (Jesse Watson). Of course 'Hideout' had a big green octopus crawling all over the building. That was much more edgy than these attractive, but tame graphics. Since closure of 'Hideout' the multinationals are working hard to eliminate what is unique on this stretch of Queen Street West.

'Doc's Leather', is a Toronto institution since 1969, so I've decided to give the photo a little bit of vintage treatment. Doc Von Lichtenberg, the owner, is quite a character himself. One year ago he got fed-up with robberies and shoplifters and was fighting with two criminals half his age to get his merchandise back. He was 64 at the time, but was successful. Coincidentally, I took a photo of Patrick S, Toronto jazz saxophonist, walking with a friend. I did not even realize it at the time.

We have in Toronto a celebrity, unlike any. The biggest tribute mural is near the park where she lives (lived). I have not seen her/him, it in my lifetime in the city, but photo evidence is almost as compelling as George Floyds video. Not only this squirrel has a statue, several murals, even streets are named after it. This mural is by Lovebot, on a bakery wall near the park.

A facade of the Bugis+ shopping mall, can you see the staircase running behind it?

Previously the location of Raptors mural, it's now home of this weird writing. I missed this language class in school. It is not Arabic, Chinese, Hebrew, Mongolian, Cyrillic Azbuka or Armenian. I suspect someone made up this script, which is pretty impressive. The closest I would say is Tygrinian, Punic or some old Persian alphabet. ODTO (Overdose!) store is something, which in my opinion indicates that something is very wrong with our society. Stores like this (google it) should be eliminated by Covid, but they will survive and even thrive.
