It being my first Christmas "alone," I'm sort of picking and choosing what traditions to incorporate in my celebration of the holiday (hahaha, I said "holiday," BITE ME O'REILLY). The advent wreath is a Lutheran thing (although other denominations use them too). I made this one out of four candles from Pier 1 (most advent wreaths use purple and pink but ivory was all that was on s--err, available), a plate I got from Arnis (tiny town in northern Germany) and a bunch of pine needles from the hedge outside our house.

We have been providing special effects and sequences for sporting events for 15 years now and have developed new and improved methods over this period. We can be setup and ready to fire the effects within 1 minute of the final whistle, more often than not long before the winning team is in position.
We have designed and built specialised firing plates that are quick and easy for our crew to carry into position and then retreat to the side line. With wireless firing equipment we can fire material anywhere in a stadium / arena without the need for running cables.
Over the years we have developed our presentation sequences by adding angles, new stock and our computerised firing systems to provide rapid firing of effects.
Depending on budgets we fire from any number of positions to produce a dense wall of glitter and light behind the winning team.
The sequences tend to last between 10 - 20 seconds which is a perfect duration for the photographers to get their shot before the team start to move away.

This is the shell shown in my earlier pictures being put together. The only problem with this shell was that the first layer of composition on the outer petal stars was a dark comp. As seen from the video the outer petal stars were visable right from the begining of the shell break. It's time to find and test a different dark comp as this is more of a white than dark comp.
Since the split up of Pink Floyd, Roger Waters has retained the rights to the use of both Dark Side of The Moon and The Wall. For the first time since the unique performance in Berlin after the fall of The Wall, Roger has been touring a complete concert of The Wall, updated for 2011. The message seems more relevant than ever - Fear Builds Walls. Personally I feel Ignorance builds Fear in the first place, but then the ignorance was something Roger tried to overcome through this spectacle of Surround Sound, Gerald Scarfe imagery, a giant Wall, a flying plane and of course... the pig!
The photos in the set cover pretty much the entire show. What's missing is some of the video projections, which are best watched on the original Alan Parker film of The Wall anyway.
This is not a show in which to take front row seats, like we usually do. The stage is huge, so we took some ringside seats about halfway down the arena, which worked out perfect for a focal length range from 24mm to 280mm. Some shots are still cropped further, and none align perfectly, as I could not set up the monopod. The real challenge was the extreme contrast created by the lighting, pyrotechnics and 15 video projectors. In some cases for the first time even at ISO6400 the D700 struggled to expose while maintaining no less than 1/250th, even at -0.7EV.
The concert was great, about the only disappointment, predictably, was the absence of the rest of Pink Floyd; Richard Wright, Nick Mason, and of course, most of all during Comfortably Numb, David Gilmour. Except for those lucky ones to have seen them together at the O2 Arena...
