Sometimes....
it takes a nuzzle to set a seed
free
a finch with a pincer
to clip the wing’s string
you have your charms
but I’m like the thistle
Kissed by a beak, likely to
slip
in the down of a feather
fleeing the finch like a wish
He clapped his wings from out the dust
to reach the cove, the emerald cove
Crossed the cliffside firing range
to reach the cove, blue bellied cove
Sucked the summer’s, brimming colours
while all was fine, all was fine.
A little past 8:00 in the evening and the sun will finally slide behind the trees in just a few minutes. The steamy, hot air is sweet and thick with moisture and tiny insects that shine in the light.
There's barely a breeze, but the rising hot air currents give lift to the birds and small insects who ride them to fly more efficiently...or maybe just for fun!
But honey bees don't care about air currents - their focus is nectar and pollen which they'll continue gathering until they head back to the hive to drop off their goods and then to sleep.
Another perfect Summer day. :)

I took many photos of this beautiful small spider. This is one of the few showing her iridescent purple chelicerae.

EXPLORE April 9 2013...Thanks so much for the recognition!!
The spear thistle is perhaps the most likely candidate for the Scottish national emblem. It is a tall thistle, with a long tap-root.Young plants form rosettes of bristly leaves that have a downy upper surface; rosettes persist for around 1 year before flowering stems are produced. These flowering stems are cottony, deeply furrowed and have spiny 'wings', they support deeply lobed and spiny leaves .The large purple flower heads are 3-5 cm long and 2-5 cm across and are arranged in clusters..
They're considered weeds, but I think there are a lot of pretty weeds! ; )
My local woodland in Ryton was awash with butterflies on my last visit. Particularly impressed to see plenty of these beauties: silver-washed fritillaries, who were filling up on nectar from rows of flowering thistles in the sunny rides.
Flora and Fauna Along The Elkhorn Scenic Byway in Baker County Oregon
A few random phots from our recent outing on the Elkhorn Scenic Byway. Baker County sits on the Oregon Trail and is in the heart of cattle country and it’s easy to see how this ranching and pioneer heritage has shaped the cultural landscape along the byway.
This scenic byway circles through the Elkhorn mountains of Northeast Oregon beginning and ending in Baker City and passing through small towns like Sumpter, Granite, and Haines. The drive is incredibly scenic with wide open panoramic views across the Baker valley, high alpine forests, and following pristine rivers and creeks along the way. In the winter Anthony Lakes is home to Oregon's highest base elevation ski resort. In the summer the pristine alpine lake is a fishing and camping destination. Camp Aranzazu is located in Rockport, Texas (camparanzazu.org/) If you are looking for a good charitable organization to make donations or know of individuals with special needs who would benefit from the services provided, look them up. Anyway, I am fortunate enough to have a friend involved with the organization and got special permission to go (no events in session) and take some photos. This huge horrible thistle was blooming and caught my eye.
This photo was taken during the summer of 2018. My backyard often has invasive plants and flowers growing, which I didn't plant. This particular summer there were lots of thistle. When it first grows, it is a thawny plant. Don't touch or step on it. I had a few that i missed to remove, but they blossomed with these beautiful purple petals. They attracted so many nectar, loving birds, and insects like this monarch butterfly that I had to capture this.
As this was afternoon light, I was able to capture the bokeh effect in the background using my Nikon d5500, flash on, 600mm tamron lens, aperture f6.3 & shutter speed 1/80s
