This place used to pump all the sewage out of London during the victorian age. It was built after the "Great Stink" of 1858 and was operational up until the 1950's. During it's time it was an engineering marvel as well as featuring some beautiful ironwork that you can see in the Octagon here. It was derelict for decades but has been partially restored recently and you can see one of the steam pumps in operation on one of their open days.
The impressive water pumping station at Papplewick near Nottingham. Grade II* listed, dating from 1881 and built for the Nottingham Corporation Water Department. The building houses two double acting beam engines built in 1884. The chimney is Grade II listed and approximately 120 feet tall.

On euro tour with Sean and Neil for 3 days of mayhem and a grand total of 8 hours sleep. Taking in some old and new sites and showing them some of what is out there as it was their first time. Also made time to meet up with the SPEXS crew.
Unsure on the history of when this rectory/convent was abandoned but seems to be a while now.

This beautiful old pumping station is located along Lawrence Avenue just a few blocks east of Kimball. It was built in 1929. This photo doesn't do it justice...definitely want to go back and take pics again on a day when the sky is not so lifeless.
Gigi & I seem to have Lily up a tree! We were doing an impromptu photo shoot in our hotel's lobby before heading out to dinner and clubbing on our recent Girl's Night Out in Baltimore! Thanks go to Cindy for getting our pic!

The Magnolia Petroleum Company was an early twentieth century petroleum company in Texas. The company was established in 1911, being later acquired by Standard Oil of New York, which operated it as a wholly-owned subsidiary until its demise in 1959...
Built in 1924, the Magnolia Service Station located in Vega, Texas was also a Phillips 66 and Conoco station and between 1953 - 1965 it was the Slatz Barbershop...it was restored back to it's present condition in 2001...

Mersey Railway pumping and ventilation station at the bottom of James Street in Liverpool. When the tunnel from Hamilton Square to James Street was constructed, there was obviously a great concern that water would leak in from the river and the docks. Drainage tunnels were built into the design, and the water was then brought to the surface via two pumping stations on either side of the river. Whilst the steam pumps are long gone here, the Link and Loop tunnels have been added to the drainage requirements that are served by modern electric pumps.
