Aperture priority
Depth of field. I shot this in aperture priority mode to produce a really shallow depth of field. I wanted to make it so the furthest tiles were barely readable. I set this shot up to show how our brains interpret the right thing even when our eyes are not 100 percent reliable. I wonder how many people will notice the deliberate mistake.

Kinda ballsy move with a solo unit in this frigid Arctic air mass on a priority train. Temperatures will not even reach double digits today after a sub-zero dawn over the Capital Region.

The small leaves are 1/2 inch in length. Bugs are obviously smaller. I am told the smaller leaves are sweeter than the larger. The camera's sweet spot is aperture 5.6 or 8 (no discernible difference).
Fixed lens SLR with Shutter Priority Auto Exposure. Almost none of these still work - including this one. The leaf shutters slowed down, the flip-up mirrors got stuck, and the selenium meters quit metering. Still a nice looking camera.

I got up early yesterday to try and get a sunrise series of images around the theme of fruit tree blossoms here in the Niagara Peninsula. Such was the plan. But, as it generally the case, things did not go exactly to plan. So after a period of getting what I could before blossom season ends, I headed home and, more out of frustration than anything else, headed over to the mouth of the Forty Mile Creek in Grimsby, Ontario to try an capture some sunrise-over-Lake Ontario images. Luckily the light was a bit odd and very harsh. But that meant I could get a shot of the point of land, with its marker light, at the entrance to the local harbour. Hence a silhouette opportunity, admittedly assisted by a bit of under-exposure. The yellow hue was there and I took advantage of it in PP to bring it out a bit more and this is the result. - JW

Taken using a hand-held Nikon D800 fitted with an AF-S Nikkor 24-120mm VR 1:4.0 lense set to 58mm, ISO100, Daylight WB, Spot metering, Aperture Priority Mode, f/8.0, 1/3200 sec with an EV-0.67 exposure bias to help make sure the point is rendered near black and also to get a smaller sun area. PP in free Open Source RAWTherapee from Nikon RAW/NEF source file: set final image size to be 9000px wide, enable both Tone Mapping and Dynamic Rance Compression at default levels, use the Tone Curve 2 tool in Parametric mode to increase the lights as well as darkening the Shadows and (slightly) darkening the Darks, slightly boost Contrast and Chromaticity, slightly boost Vibrance, apply a little noise reduction, sharpen (edges only), save. PP in free Open Source GIMP: use the Hue-Saturation-Brightness to slightly increase and brighten the yellow channel only, slightly increase overall contrast, use the curves tool to pull up/brighten the mid-tones, sharpen, save, scale image to 6000 px wide, sharpen, save, add fine black-and-white frame, add bar and text on left, save, scale image to 3000 px wide for posting online, sharpen very slightly, save.

This set will be images from Wisconsin, where I live, during the Winter of 2021, which I lived through. Many of the images were made on two gorgeous days where my home area was covered in hoar frost and freezing fog. During that time, I put aside most other things in my life and made experiencing this rare beauty a priority.
I put the sigma 150-500 f5-6.3 on the Canon 5D Mark II and went out back yesterday. We are still sticking close to home even though the province is now in Phase 3 - hubby has day surgery on his back on Monday and they asked that we limit who we see just our household or if we have others here that they mask up even though we have had both shots each. I forget how heavy this lens is at times but, I love it nonetheless.
Hand held aperture priority at f6.3 ISO was 320 and I focused on the one cattail. I know, it's in the middle a no-no for the composition but I am a photography rule breaker. Edited in ON1 Photo Raw 2021 by adding the Kodachrome preset - it is one of my favourite ones as it reminds me of the colours one would get with Kodachrome film.

Main story
There are two reasons why a person faces the sea.
One # to enjoy a slice of shine in the sea like children bubbling over in the beach.
The other # to brush the dust of memory like an old man who misses old days # staring at the shine
quietly.
Those lead to only one meaning though they do not seem to overlap. It’s a rebirth.
I face myself to change tomorrow # a vague day into something certain.
That is the meaning of a rebirth.
I had a very sweet girlfriend when I was 18.
After she left # I knew the meaning of gentleness for the first time and also a true pain of loss. After
she left # how many times did I depend too much on her # doubt her # envy her and keep on telling lies
until I realized it is love?
I wonder whether a nobody like me could have given something to her who was struggling in the
daily life in those days. Giving something is arrogant conceit. It is nothing but self-satisfaction.
I had been thinking about such a thing.
However # I guess what she saw in me was because I had nothing. That‘s why she tried to see
something in me. Perhaps she found a slight possibility in me # a guy filled with ambiguous # unstable
tomorrow. But I wasted days depending too much on her gentleness.

あらすじ
大学を目指している北見ケイは、SNS上で、6歳年上のイベントコンパニオン、上村香織に出会う。
上京してきた香織の夢は、有名なアーティストの友達になるためだ。
そのためにはラジオ局のプロデューサー、大沢亮の存在が必要だった。
大沢は、ラジオの生放送中、香織へ語りかける。
「僕には妻子がある。しかし、僕は君に会いたいと思っている」
ケイの同級生で、彼を想っている三條里香は、香織の動向を探っていた。。。。。
本編
人が海へ向かう理由には、二つある。
ひとつは、波打ち際ではしゃぐ子供のように、今の瞬間の海の輝きを楽しむこと。
もうひとつは、その輝きを静かに見据えて、過ぎ去った日々を懐かしむ老人のように記憶の埃を払うこと。
二つは重なり合わないようではあるけれども、たったひとつの意味しか生まない。
再生だ。
明日っていう、曖昧な日を確実なものへと変えてゆくために、自分の存在に向き合う。
それが再生の意味だ。
十八歳だった僕には大切な人がいた。

Union Pacific 8152 is leading a Westbound ZG1CI at a slow pace towards the East Oro Grande crossovers that weren't quite clear yet. Then the BNSF appeared over the small curve just to the west with their own Z-train heading to Chicago, the train was getting back to track speed as they were clearing the crossovers in order to get around a Manifest train that was stopped.

Synopsis
Kei Kitami # who is aiming for a university # meets Kaori Uemura # an event companion who is 6 years older than her on SNS.
Kaori's dream of coming to Tokyo is to become friends with famous artists.
For that purpose # the presence of radio station producer Ryo Osawa was necessary.
Osawa talks to Kaori during the live radio broadcast.

Main story
There are two reasons why a person faces the sea.
One # to enjoy a slice of shine in the sea like children bubbling over in the beach.
The other # to brush the dust of memory like an old man who misses old days # staring at the shine
quietly.
Those lead to only one meaning though they do not seem to overlap. It’s a rebirth.
I face myself to change tomorrow # a vague day into something certain.
That is the meaning of a rebirth.
I had a very sweet girlfriend when I was 18.
After she left # I knew the meaning of gentleness for the first time and also a true pain of loss. After
she left # how many times did I depend too much on her # doubt her # envy her and keep on telling lies
until I realized it is love?
I wonder whether a nobody like me could have given something to her who was struggling in the
daily life in those days. Giving something is arrogant conceit. It is nothing but self-satisfaction.
I had been thinking about such a thing.
However # I guess what she saw in me was because I had nothing. That‘s why she tried to see
something in me. Perhaps she found a slight possibility in me # a guy filled with ambiguous # unstable
tomorrow. But I wasted days depending too much on her gentleness.
Now I finally can convey how I felt in those days when we met.

あらすじ
大学を目指している北見ケイは、SNS上で、6歳年上のイベントコンパニオン、上村香織に出会う。
上京してきた香織の夢は、有名なアーティストの友達になるためだ。
そのためにはラジオ局のプロデューサー、大沢亮の存在が必要だった。
大沢は、ラジオの生放送中、香織へ語りかける。
「僕には妻子がある。しかし、僕は君に会いたいと思っている」
ケイの同級生で、彼を想っている三條里香は、香織の動向を探っていた。。。。。
本編
人が海へ向かう理由には、二つある。
ひとつは、波打ち際ではしゃぐ子供のように、今の瞬間の海の輝きを楽しむこと。
もうひとつは、その輝きを静かに見据えて、過ぎ去った日々を懐かしむ老人のように記憶の埃を払うこと。
二つは重なり合わないようではあるけれども、たったひとつの意味しか生まない。
再生だ。
明日っていう、曖昧な日を確実なものへと変えてゆくために、自分の存在に向き合う。
それが再生の意味だ。
十八歳だった僕には大切な人がいた。

作品にはサインなどがいっさい記されていなかったため、彼の作品だと断定できませんでした。
しかし、様々な鑑定の結果、陽の光を浴びました。
誰にも気づかれない作品。肩書がなくとも静かに語りかける作品。
僕はこれから様々な形で、多くの皆様に提供できるよう努めてゆきます。

My first full morning in the Sawtooths brought a quiet sunrise and still waters. The night before I had hiked until dusk and decided to scramble down off the trail and look for a couple decent sized trees to hang my hammock from.
Fortunately, tree line was another 1,000 feet above me, so I had plenty to choose from, and found a nice copse before it got too dark.
I remember it being colder than I had expected, and the rest of the nights that trip, I would boil a bit of water and jam it down by my feet to stay warm.
Just an hour or two after I took this photo, I crested the ridge above Edith Lake, another 1,500 feet above me. Little did I expect this to be one of the most moving moments of my entire life, seeing the entire Sawtooths open up before me after cresting this final rise. I was so shocked that I broke down crying. It was as if like some burden had been lifted from me that I did not know was there. I can feel it, even now.
I often come back to that moment in my mind's eye, and it continues to be a source of strength and peace for me to this day.
