Grandson Blake's new nap time quilt for preschool. 4 year old Blake told his mom to ask me if I could make him a new nap quilt for school. He had outgrown his square old one and was cold because he couldn't cover his shoulders when nap time came. Finished size is 46" x 66". This one should work for him for several years to come.

Yesterday we had a Halloween day in Preschool! We talked about why we celebrate Halloween, why we dress up and why we carve pumpkins (the children found it very funny that people used to carve swedes). We talked about how many pumpkins get wasted every year and thought about how we could use all of the pumpkin so we didn't throw it away and waste it. The adults cut open the pumpkins and let the children scoop out all of the seeds and flesh. We decided to roast the seeds in olive oil and then ate them at snack time (they were delicious!) We also roasted the flesh and when it had cooled down we mixed it with oats, honey, water and vanilla extract and made our very own pumpkin pie, which the children enjoyed eating at the end of the day!

As we expand the circle of interaction of children, the most significant influence after the family is the school and the other people they interact in their daily lives like teachers, doctors, barbers, drivers and maids.

This month, under the theme 'People Around Us', Prideens from Grade Pre-Nursery learnt about the people who help us in different ways. To build a deeper understanding of the concept, Prideens came dressed as doctors, nurses, teachers, postmen, tailors, traffic policemen and cobblers. Using hand puppets, teachers dramatized the character to give a better understanding of the duties performed by each community helper .Children were asked probing questions to develop observation and recitation skills and also develop understanding on the tools used by some of the community helpers.

Children not only learnt about the roles they play, but also develop a sense of gratitude for the work they do for us. To develop social skills of expressing gratitude, our Prideens, designed cards to thank their class didi’s for helping them everyday.
