The Potato Champion truck in Portland, OR makes some pretty good vegetarian poutine. The gravy was oniony and just slightly sour (from vinegar), but that gave it a nice kick. Squeeky cheese curds, gravy, and fries are hard to beat for dessert.

Onions, green peppers, light garlic sauce, cheese and fries. Not your typical poutine.

The sauce was all at the bottom, so the cheese didn't really melt on the fries and everything at the bottom ended up tasting and looking more like a soup. A very good effort, but I wouldn't reorder it.

They have lots of poutine (most of them include seafood), I'm sure there are many good ones :)

My beloved cat... ;P

Her name is Poutine, not because of him but because of my last trip to Quebec, a long time ago now...

OF COURSE we had to get poutine.

we picked up fresh curds at the golden glen creamery yesterday while on the farm tour; tonight they became poutine!

gravy, cheese curds and tater tots. Of course traditional poutine is made with french fries. Thus, the tater tots give my version the midwestern twist.

By consensus our trio ordered the Curry Chicken poutine ($7.95); however this selection got the unanimous thumbs down. The "slow roasted chicken breast" was in all likelihood made from processed chicken loaf; the "spicy curry sauce" tasted like it was sweet chutney. Our table of tasters has had fair exposure to all forms of curry, but this was like no other. Epic fail.

With a steamy and a toasty.

This was great value for $15 when compared to the boxed spuds that ML and I experienced previously at Smoke's. Here shoestring crisped frites were covered with a flavoured aioli, chunks of lobster, and melt-y cheese curds.

Poutine is a classic Quebecois construction of chips, gravy and cheese curds. It's a bit gross to be honest.

Yum!

Poutine Ashton, degustee au Galleries de la capitale. Je ne suis pas un fan de leur sauce traditionelle, mais leur sauce BBQ est tres bonne.

For those who aren't familiar, poutine is french fries topped with cheese curds and gravy. Then on top of that, you can get various additional toppings. I had Country Style: grilled chicken, bacon, sauteed mushrooms, and caramelized onions. It tastes better than it sounds.

Poutine is a diner staple which originated in Quebec. The earliest date associated with its invention is 1957. Adding sauce to the cheese curds/fries mixture was a later innovation. By the late 1970s, poutine had made its way to New York and New Jersey, where it was often sold as an “off menu” item in a modified form called “disco fries”. Photo taken in Old Montreal.

Mad Montreal Poutine

After a wonderful day of visiting the Canadian War Museum and the Canadian Museum of Civilization, it was time for dinner. Now, this is what I had for dinner on Sunday (May 2) evening... a poutine... from McDonald's, just the way Tho wants it.

Poutine with pepperoni, green bell peppers and sautéed mushrooms.

At La Banquise, of course.

After we left La Ronde, Myriam took me to La Banquise, arguably the best poutine restaurant in Montreal! It was: good! Much better than it looks, anyhow.
