Returning home with Fresh Cheese Curds from Wisconsin, of course my wife had to try making Poutine!

On Tuesday we hit up the Potato Champion and Whiffies food carts in Portland at the corner of 12th and Hawthorne.
Was my first experience with the Canadian treat known as Poutine. French fries + cheese curds + gravy. Very tasty but a tad much for common consumption.
The Whiffie stole the show. It is a deep fried hand-pie with apple filling. Very simple and very very good
Fries with homemade gravy and Daiya mozzarella - a delicious vegan poutine!

Why veganism:
Hand cut Belgian fries, fried in duck fat, topped with locally sourced cheese curd, duck gravy, fresh chives, and duck confit. It might sound too unnecessarily fancy for poutine, but it was probably the best poutine I've ever had.
Poutine
Neckbone gravy, chili oil, caputo cheese curd. ($10)

I saw places that had poutine all over and I kinda wanted to try it but I doubted that it would be easy to find one made with vegetarian gravy. Plus I have no idea how to ask about vegetarian anything in french.
Merguez is a Middle Eastern sausage; in this case, made from beef, but it also can be made from lamb.
Anyway, it was tasty and filling; merguez is a somewhat dry sausage, so it went well with the gravy. And having the sausage along with the fries, gravy and curds, made for a solid meal.
I added some of their spicy Moroccan sauce, to kick it up a notch.
From Centrale Bergham; Ottawa, Ontario.
La Banquise, where else?
This was the Poutine Galvaude, which consisted of poutine topped with chicken and peas. As I understand it, this was basically a hot chicken sandwich (minus the bread) on top of poutine.
the award winning variety at the Elgin St Diner in Ottawa. A nice light snack in the middle of your ride. Made with St Albert cheese curds. Yummers.
I've made poutine a couple times now and have always used random gravy that I buy at the supermarket. When I was in Montréal a couple of months ago, I saw this available at the Provigo I went to and had to buy it because it was poutine sauce and was a St-Hubert product. I love St-Hubert's logo!
At Chez AshTon, a fast-food chain that appears to exist only in Quebec City, our first taste of the fries-with-gravy-and-cheese-curds specialite du province. These are two "mini" (!) orders, of regular old poutine at left and "Dulton" (poutine with ground beef) at right. I loved the Dulton, and not only because it's so much fun to pronounce with a French accent. The ground beef had a sweet spiciness reminiscent of cinnamon-laced Cincinnati chili.
Poutine (fries, Vermont white cheddar curds, sausage gravy, beautiful egg) on the Hourglass Menu at Comme Ca.
Chipotle pulled pork + double-smoked bacon + Italian sausage + gravy + cheese curds + French fries; I had them change the gravy from their regular (chicken) gravy to their green peppercorn gravy (a bit spicier), and I had them add jalapenos, and extra cheese curds, and I put sriracha sauce on it (the red stuff in the above pic) before sealing it up, to take home to eat.
The curds had that 'squeak' that they're supposed to have.
*Update: MR5 pointed out below that I had failed to say whether or not it tasted good, so yeah, let me say, it was great! :)
From Smoke's Poutinerie, a chain serving all different varieties of poutine; in Kingston, Ontario.
When in Quebec, you must have Poutine. This nice example came from Restaurant La Nouvelle France in Quebec City.

Poutine is popular in Quebec and an instant heart attack. It's French Fries drowned in gravy and cheese curds.
I had poutine a long time ago in Canada. It's a French Canadian "street food" of fries topped with gravy and cheese. I love oxtail, so I had to get this. It was ridiculously rich and powerful. I had 1/3 of the dish and had to throw in the towel. Dayne loved it and ate the rest. I was in awe.
From a cafeteria, not from Boston Pizza although they have one too, just like their pizza.
Cranberry relish, turkey, gravy, cheese curds, fries.
Good. Wish they had stuffing too like the Boston Pizza's Christmas Pizza did. Still, good for what it was; a great lunch. :)
Maybe I will go try BP's, soon. :)
