Isaac slept long enough for us to slurp down a ramen!
---
I was thrilled to be invited to a "private event" at Satsuki for an authentic Kyushu Ramen 九州拉面. I nearly passed on the offer, but at the last minute, I called and confirmed our dinner reservation at our favourite local Japanese cafe. The lady is actually from Kyushu, so you can't get Kyushu Ramen more authentic than that :)
Her version of ramen doesn't include a boiled egg, not that it was necessary with the super tasty soup! The boss lady asked us if we enjoyed it. Of course we did! Then she went on to say that she was satisfied with her soup today :)
While we were chatting, the boss lady suggested we go to the onsen town of 别府 in Kyushu for onsen, ramen, water park for the kids and a wild monkey park.

There was also Hong's Endive and Mandarin Salad with home-grown mandarins and mint, After Dinner Mint that was refreshing.

Mmm, love pork born! ;)
Actually, this sounds pretty good; I'll have to try it sometime.

KamJaTang Jeongol
---------------------------
I was here recently, at The Owl of Minerva in Pickering, celebrating a friend's birthday over some delicious Korean food. Everything was absolutely delicious but something was missing, hence this visit.
This time around, we had their KamJaTang Jeongol, the large bowl of their delicious Pork Bone Soup, with extra ingredients. This was the perfect choice for a cold wintery day. The flavours were as rich as expected, with lots of tender meat on the bones, vegetables, ricecakes, dumplings, and more. Great dish!
We also had their JeYukBokeum, a stir-fried pork dish served on a sizzling plate, another winner with great flavour!
As usual, our meal included rice, kimchi, bean sprouts, pickled radish, pickled cucumbers, and great service from the friendly staff.
The portions were very generous and we took home lots of leftovers.

A good friend of mine is visiting from Vancouver and she's a foodie, although not a blogger, so our first stop on the way in from the airport had to be for a meal, nothing fancy, just good food. We ended up in the food court at First Markham Place and it was packed, with long lines at our preferred vendors. We ended up at Owl of Minerva, on the far end of the plaza.
We ordered the KamJaTang (Pork Bone Soup) and Mul NaengMyun (Buckwheat Cold Noodles Soup). The meal included an assortment of side dishes, as usual, but they didn't have the bean sprouts, our favourite.
The KamJaTang was as good as expected - hot, flavourful, and meaty. This is always a favourite. This was my first time having the Mul NaengMyun, and it was good but I prefer hot soups.

Good tonkotsu broth, rich and fragrant, possibly the best I've had in Melbourne so far. Still not quite as good as in Japan.
For AUD13, it's not too pricey, but not cheap either, especially since it only come with 1 slice of pork and another AUD2 for an egg.
Michelle started Korean cooking recently. She says, "This stew is my husbands new fave meal!"
The recipe is here:
Julia's Radish Cake 萝卜糕, Borlotti Bean Soup 去湿豆猪骨汤, Brussels Sprouts 菜胆
Simply yummy radish cake Julia made yesterday for a lazy Sunday dinner. Wait, it's Sunday again tomorrow!
It was another one of those days when I couldn't figure out what I felt like eating. I had stopped at a couple of places on my way home, hoping to get inspired but by the time I reached my third stop, I was starving. It was a small food court in an Asian supermarket.
Korean Pork Bone Soup caught my attention. While waiting for it to be ready, I thought to myself, "What am I doing? It's hot as heck outside!" Too late to turn back now.
It was actually quite satisfying. The broth was rich and flavourful, and there was a good amount of meat on the bones. It was accompanied by the traditional Korean purple rice, kimchi, and potatoes.

so good.. it came with rice and kimchi. you could also order thin rice noodles to dunk into the slightly spicy soup after you had devoured all your meat.

Mmm... ramen!
Today's tonkotsu shoyu broth was thick and rich, and had a better pork flavour, but it could do.with more garlic :b

Thick, rich broth but lacking punch and porky flavour. The fried chicken was nice, with an interesting shichimi yuzu mayo. Being an Indonesian chain, the chilli paste was a bit weak though.
Good chewy noodles in a tasty pork bone soup topped with fried garlic. It might even have been MSG free, with bonito flakes adding extra umami.
Crisp and tasty fried chicken with a dry batter coating.
It's always a pleasure to dine with family, extended family, and dear friends. Over twenty of us dined at Dragon Legend in Markham.
Korean Pork Bone Soup was new to the menu (since my last visit) and it was pretty good. I had some dim sum along with it.

Famous cheap ($5.99!) and tasty pork bone soup in North York Koreatown. Toronto's second Koreatown.
I took a bunch of pictures of this local favourite while laughing my buns off. Few people appreciate the wonder that is a Toronto Korean restaurant called the Owl of Minerva. Julia's mother, who is a Latin teacher and Miss Julia, the former classics buff are certainly part of the chosen few. :D
Very tasty tonkotsu ramen, both miso and shoyu, and so was the makanai pork rice, but the gyoza and agedashi tofu were forgetable.
There was a jug of plain pork and chicken tonkotsu soup in case you prefer it less salty. I had some on its own, and it was very rich and fragrant!

Japchae Bap, a yummy noodle dish with beef.
I was out with my Uncle and Aunt around lunch time and we had a craving for something simple but yummy. We ended up at a stall in the food court at First Markham Place, called Korean BBQ
Everything tasted great, especially since each dish was accompanied by some cold noodles, kimchi, and bean sprouts. As with most outlets in this food court, the portions are very generous and the prices are cheap!

It’s well known that JB has lots and lots of yummy restaurants. Happened to go twice in 2023, once on a work retreat and then with friends. Bak Kut Teh (pork bone soup) Malaysia style is less peppery than the Singapore version but I found this super shiok with the tender pork ribs and flavourful soup. We ordered the sesame chicken too which was very tasty. This stall was also on Jalan Permas.
