16 Blythe a Day August 2022
"The Catholic Church took the leading role in the early history of the pretzel. In the 7th C, the church dictated stricter rules governing fasting & abstinence during Lent. Pretzels, made of a simple mixture of water, flour & salt, were an ideal food to consume during Lent, when all types of meat, dairy & eggs were prohibited.
The first pretzels were baked as a soft, squishy bread, like the soft pretzels of today. Some say they were originally called “bracellae,” the Latin term for “little arms,” from which Germans later derived the word “bretzel.” According to others, the earliest pretzels were dubbed “pretiolas,” meaning “little rewards,” & handed out by the monks when their young pupils recited their prayers correctly. Whatever they were called, the popularity of these twisty treats spread across Europe during the Middle Ages. Seen as a symbol of good luck, prosperity & spiritual fulfillment, pretzels were also distributed to the poor, as a way of providing them with both spiritual & literal sustenance."

"We're not alone out here..."
Another image made for my Intermediate Photography class. We had to make five rules for ourselves with this project. I do have more images, but I feel this is the most successful.
Here are my rules:
1. The camera must be handheld.
2. The use of the home studio or any studio lighting is prohibited.
3. Each photo must be narrative, but it is optional for the images to become a continuous narrative.
4. The color Red is prohibited. (This more or less turned into a limited color palate of muted colors.)
5. The use of any LEGO® Products is also prohibited.

Nell Finn with our vintage porcelain Harlequin doll.
We have inherited three of them. However I discovered today to my dismay, one only has one bell attached, & the other, shockingly, no bells! I must rectify this situation!! I shall add it to my never ending 'To Do' list xoxo
