A suivre donc …

°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°

In just a few short years, artificial intelligence has established itself as THE new technological revolution to follow.

It has become the favorite of all major technology companies who want to prove that they continue to innovate.

But this unleashing of tokens, GPUs and prompts hides a bleak ecological reality !!!

Sam Altman himself said it, AI will not be able to develop "without a major breakthrough" in the field of energy.

Artificial intelligence will therefore consume even more energy in the years to come 🤔

Energy is not the only variable to take into account when trying to gauge the carbon footprint of artificial intelligence!!!

The other big debate that is driving the artificial intelligence community is its water consumption!

In 2022, Google admitted to using 22 billion liters of water to cool its servers.

Difficult to quantify in concrete terms, the carbon footprint of AI should not be a non-subject and the use of resources such as water or energy must be the subject of a democratic debate...

This would not only, as former Googler Timnit Gebru puts it, reduce “inequitable access to resources, which disproportionately affects already marginalized people,” but also stop decorrelating the magic of computing from its climatic consequences 🤔

To be continued...
